- Another video showing old Toronto to present day. I made a couple of mistakes with dates in this video at 3:10 it should be 1958 and at 4:02 it should be 1939. #history #beach #beaches #canada #general_knowledge #ontario #toronto #queenstreet #ttc #nostalgia
I've watched many of these videos from this wonderful channel and others like it. The one very common thing that I've noticed is that back in the day, Toronto had many buildings that had character. They were marvelous to look at because of their craftsmanship and design. Now many of these buildings are gone. In the name of progress and cookie cutter condos. I feel a great deal of melancholy when I see these videos. Those were the days.
Yes I dislike the cookie cutter condos too.
Tdunph4250, I totally agree with you. Toronto’s buildings were so interesting back 50 years ago or more but now, nope!!

3:10 University Ave & Elm St you wrote 1935, but the cars are definitely from the 195o's !
That building on the left is very classy, classic beauty, and it would even pass as upscale modern 2023 architectural style. Too bad they replaced it with a soul-less pigeon-box complex.
I will have to go back and check what the photo said I may have reversed the numbers 5 and 3

Yes, too bad it all comes down to money, cheaper to tear down than renovate.
One thing that strikes me comparing the then and now pictures is how well-dressed people were in the old shots and what slobs they look like in the now pictures.
I have noticed that too, gone are the days when you would get dressed up and eat dinner together as a family at a dining room table, and you ate what Mom cooked or go hungry.
Some of the dates are incorrect, but very nice memories. Thank you!
I can only go by what the photo says, but you are probably correct, I find a lit of these photos are mistaken on dates and places.
Ton o' rot, customarily where a theirtube editor wilfully contradicts plate labellings... ('towards' as opposed to "from" Balsam...)
Elm and university at 3:12 is probably June of 58. Just a suspicion.
It could be, I need to check the dates on the original photo.
Couldn't fix it in the video without deleting but the correct dates are in the description.
It says on the bottom of the actual photo that it's from June 1958.
University and Queen st W. 1983? Looks more like 1933.
Actually when I came from Europe in 1983, I noticed how far behind Toronto was. That photo was 1983 😋

The car on the left is from the 1920s or early 30s the cars on the right side could be 1930s early 40s.

Some of these dates are out to lunch 1935 with 1950s cars ?
I have to check the pictures when I get home either I inverted the numbers or the source I got the photos from did.
