Very informative video! When watching through “Aw Hell No” and I got to the scene where Ren’s happy in hell because Stimpy’s not with him, I was like “this is literally just his monologue from Hermit Ren!” (a much funnier and more interesting cartoon) and the explanation for how they die is just the ending of Terminal Stimpy as well. Talk about originality. I also appreciate you talking about how these episodes were paced out, none of the scenes had any sense of flow to them especially the ones that attempted to be dramatic. No more slow character acting or posing to feel the character’s emotions anymore. Now, everything feels exactly the same as last. I hope this reboot has a quick and unnoticed death and people in the industry can finally let this franchise die.
Terminal Stimpy was exactly what I remembered, they recycled the same joke even having Stimpy nearly kill himself in the same way (minus the fakeout that he didn’t actually die from the match)
I think they also took ideas from the comics in aww hell no, there was a comic chapter in Ren and Stimpy where Stimpy sold everything for charity, even their own house Ren got so angry at this that he left Stimpy saying he never wants to see him again jimminy loumox appeared and showed him what his life would be like without Stimpy. Feel free to look it up, there were facial expressions drawn in it like we saw in aw hell no I would like to add that Elsupremo Ren is one of my favorite parts of the comic, I always expected it to be made into this episode, but now I don't know what it would be like or worth it now ..
This cartoon was gonna be garbage from the minute I saw it get announced. I simply like the original show, specifically seasons 1-3, I'm not a huge fan of it or anything, and I'm definitely not big on APC. Call me a moderate, I guess, but I recognize the impact the original had; and this new version just looks awful, such a stark contrast. I also find it really fishy that Robyn Byrd was petitioning to have the reboot canned and yet she... ended up being part creatively involved with the show? There's something not right about that.
She had her own Agenda. That's why I didn't jump on her or Kate's "Me too" nonsense in 2018 about John K. Seasons 1 and 2 of Ren and Stimpy on Nickelodeon will ALWAYS be Iconic because it had John Kricfalusi at the Steering Wheel. Games was Nickelodeon Running the Cartoon and making it what they THOUGHT it was supposed to be. Bob Camp and Jim Gomez were only brought on to replace John and Spumco because they would do what they were told. APC did NOT have John K at the steering wheel at all. That Project had WAY too many Cooks with John only being the Sous Chef. That's why it turned out so Terrible.
Oh man, were that were true - Tiny Toons did start out with cartoonists in charge to some degree. And they always had credited directors in the title cards!
The Putin joke makes me think Max G's Ren and Stimpy video came from some inside knowledge about this reboot. Also its more creatively drawn then the actual reboot. th-cam.com/video/NZ6FZFega8k/w-d-xo.html
I have two thoughts 1. With that point about people like Bob Camp leaving, this could also (allegedly) be because of Robyn Bird joining the project. I don't know the exact reasons but maybe it could be because that whole Robyn situation felt motivated by fame and/or spite rather than a genuine attempt to see the series grow (seriously who goes from protesting against making more Ren and Stimpy media because John fucking groomed you to joining the very thing you were protesting against with no second thought). - 2. I hope to fucking god Nick gets their shit together after stuff like this got leaked. Yeah I know this is meant for MTV (originally for Comedy Central but still) but I dread the thought of a My Life as a Teenage Robot revival where it's written like a generic millennial sitcom rather than an animated dramedy(?). Say what you will about the show (it's got it's issues when it comes to the animation [stiff-ish posing on most scenes and very limited action] and writing [show likes to abruptly end it's stories with a resolution that sometimes feels unearned and/or rushed]) but at the very least you can tell the show was mostly Animator-Driven from beginning to end (with all it's former Dexter and PPG staff leading the project and all). People wanna see a show that was shafted by the network be given new life, not have it's corpse dragged out to be worn like a mascot.
Hollywood takes the #metoo movement very seriously. If an SA victim is protesting their show, they dont want that negative publicity. So they bribed her with a position of power, and she accepted... probably to like, "reclaim her trauma," or some shit.
Should of gotten the guy who did the theme for Shnookums and Meat or something. The new theme is very meh, that I didn't notice at first it was suppose to be the theme song.
I see Ren's drawing style as an amalgam of APC's Ren with the classic Nickelodeon one, in some scenes he looks like the classic Nickelodeon Ren and in other scenes he looks like the APC one.
The torturing stimpy scene was an absolute softball, all they had to do was copy some of the more dramatic scenes from the old show but they couldn't even do that.
I am SO sad and feel so duped that I had faith in this reboot. Ren & Stimpy being written as this modern bad adult sitcom like The Prince feels way more insulting to its legacy then a creeper OG creator being over edgy and putting his experiences turning out a slow and repetitive adult reboot of that same property. I’m not saying APC is outright good, but at least the people behind it cared about what they were doing even if some bad choices were made. This 2024 cartoon feels like a disposable and rancid spit in the face two of the OG Spumco and even later Games episode stood for. If this is the future of cartoon reboots in Hollywood, that I am very wary of its future. I’ll stick to draw on my own independent juvenile comics about the hippie hippo girl burping and pooping if I want to entertain myself then submitting anything for HW thank you very much.
I would rather watch Adult Party Cartoon reboot because the reboot has funny moments. Ralph Bakshi, Dr. Horse and Ren and Stimpy being in a bathroom with a chick. That scene was pretty funny.
@@marko-gj1uj There are only about 3 APC episodes I like. I'd have to watch the new reboot myself to judge whether I would rather suffer through Altruists again.
Come on, man! I feel like you should know this. Ren is not Mexican. Him being a a stereotypical Mexican dog is inconsequential, it doesn't make him Mexican. Ren's voice is a Peter Lorre impression. Peter Lorre was Hungarian. If you want to go deeper, his surname is Hoek. Which is Dutch.
Exactly! Ren isn't mexican, its just a Chihuahua but there's not one moment when that is being placed as a hint of nacionality. Its because Mr. K saw a picture of a chihuahua and thought it was funny.
A way to make sure that your show is dated by the next decade, is to make jokes about political leaders. As they are ALMOST ALWAYS out of power within like 4-8 years. Even Putin, that guy is not doing well health wise. People in 10 years won’t get jokes about him because he wouldn’t be in power anymore. Same goes for US presidents. Heck, I feel as some of the early South Park jokes about bill Clinton are dated, as I wasn’t alive to witness stuff the show is referencing.
As much as I want to talk about something like John K or Pahlevanan, I do want to write this about the situation. This goofy "old white men" thing could have been avoided if they had given to J G Quintel to work on this cartoon reboot. That guy knows how to write stories for cartoons. As for this reboot, this reboot will be forgotten for nothing. Even Adult Party Cartoon had funny moments that made the show not that awful.
That’s insulting because even Rick and Morty had respect for Ren and Stimpy’s legacy. The ōwō faces they make in that show are a reference to Ren and Stimpy.
It seems like a gambit of "Is this person high profile enough to get called out, but not so entrenched they won't get a pass" - Billy West has been around long enough, I guess
The initial response to this show was like my spumpill of sorts, but when I’ve finally seen it, it’s total poo poo, it was all for nothing. Still looking forward to the iPhone episode, it’ll be funny for all the wrong reasons (unless it’s been written off)
Well obviously that's been the format of TV since the beginning but I think you can tell when people are trying to make a quality show vs. just grinding it out
Are you really surprised, though? It's being made for _Comedy_ Central. Of course it's going to be comedy writer-centric. That said, it is disappointing that they clearly don't get what Ren & Stimpy was all about.
No, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but at some point early on they were going to have original R&S people writing & doing art for the series, but they got hosed
@@cpubigdipper9145 And the interesting thing is that at the beginning of the episode, John's name appears, this was later cut out, so John knew about this and it didn't bother him, there is an uncut version, it has John's name on it . John often gave ideas to the writers of the era of games animation they kept in touch with him secretly
So they reboot is a lackluster mess because they current people making it did not want the OG Team (Minus John K) working in it. Once again a reboot to a classic series is getting shafted.
I said this comment in the R&S leaked reboot episode review and if you don't want any spoilers, you don't have to listen what I have to say and go watch it for yourself. With that out of the way....... I didn't think the reboot was THAT bad when watching it. It's better than APC in my opinion, I know that. It's not perfect to where I wish they had gross out humor more and wasn't writer driven that much. In "Aw Hell No", when Stimpy was making Ren food for his half birthday, the gross stuff was there so there are still some charm within the show. Who knows? The full episodes are not out yet. Also, it's an adult animated reboot so they might take some risks in the future. If it was on Nick still, they would definitely play things more safer than MTV and Comedy Central. At least they didn't overdo the swearing, gross out and too much inappropriate stuff as much as APC did. I get that they maybe are trying to go through story driven episodes which isn't wrong but I think that the random humor and gross out humor at times should still be there because that's what made R&S stand out from the rest of the cartoons back then (way before I was born, I'm Gen Z LOL). John K is not involved in the reboot, getting credit, nor making money out of it so that's a good thing. I wish they credited the people who made the reboot though. It's sad for what happened to the original artists and they got kicked out due to ageism and creative differences, but I can tell that the new writers in my opinion did their best to still recapture the characters and the show. Even if it was meant to shit on John K, yes, we all get it, he's an asshole and he;s far from being redeemed, they should tone it down and not make it a top priority, which is why I think Robyn cancelled the petition and returned to the show in the first place despite suffering from John grooming her and R&S giving her bad memories. But, the games era did the same exact thing too but didn;t overdo it and made fun of John once because of the abuse they have to suffer through by him in Stimpy's Cartoon episode. It's at least better than insulting their audience (AHEM, VELMA) and shoving modern references or slang down to people's throats. Billy didn't sound bad between the two to me but you can tell he sounds a lot more raspy with them. I think the raspy voice still works for Ren. Billy's Ren had always sounded raspy in the original. He IS getting old. He's 72 for Christ sake. He may not have the energy he used to but his emotions and screams for R&S are still good. I did miss Ren's laugh and in the recent Nickelodeon Brawl game, he still did Ren's laugh very well despite his voice still aging at that time. At least his voice didn't age poorly as much as John's voice had. I do believe if he's too tired to do Ren in some lines, a different person can take care of some voice lines Billy wasn't able to do. Another thing I wanna point out is that the animation is freakin' spot on to me! You don't have to like the animation but it feels like a combination of Games era and APC. Although, there are some flaws such as sometimes it's a little stiff and I hope R&S reboot has overly exaggerated expressions whenever characters emote but not be overused just like APC. For example, when Ren was getting caught by the mouse traps, I wish he had an exaggerated face when he screamed. But yeah, that's just it. I give the reboot 7/10. ^-^

Call me weird, warped, disturbed, I don't care, but I loved the Ren and Stimpy APC despite the unrelenting universal hate that it receives from the fandom for how disgusting and terrible it is. Watch, I expect some people to come out of the woodwork and find a new respect or appreciation for what the APC was, if and when this reboot releases and will turn out to be complete trash. I've already seen a comment on here that confirmed my theory.
Yeah... it seems like it. I didn't see much of it yet, but I can tell... this is basically just Looney Tunes Cartoons disguised as Ren and Stimpy. Still, I hope the release of this reboot has a better reception than APC. I still think APC is very terrible, despite Ren Seeks Help and the flute dance.
Even tho I still wanna give this show a try, I'll admit... I feel bad for Jim Gomez, Bob Camp and Bill Wray. I don't think I'm gonna see this in the same way as The Cuphead Show, Mickey Mouse shorts and Looney Tunes Cartoons. But I'll admit, this will still be better than APC.
Why make another Ren and Stimpy at all? It was lightning in a bottle, and neither John K. on his own nor the crew without him could recreate it. These Eeediots should just leave the show alone.
So you wrote here too, hypocrite XD Feel free to find out how many people agree with me in here and don't lie any further ;) It's not nice to lie just because you don't agree with my opinion sjw..
Its kind of a sad story of fan enthusiasm getting crushed on the rocks of post-"Geek Culture" Hollywood, & the difference between that & the independent, idiosyncratic spirit which the original series had.

I think the R&S fans are too depressed rn to do any of those things you think they will. We just want a show that isn’t cursed with production issues galore.
I would go to bat for "Aw Hell No" and "Squatters". 1) They let the visuals tell the story for the most part (only a few moments where the jokes over-explain themselves) and 2) were written by somebody who saw the original show and gave a crap about its sense of humor. They didn't even have to deliver that much. This is still damning with feint praise, though.
I wish I have gotten the chance to see this reboot and check it out myself and see if it’s as terrible as you and others think it is. The leaks are gone.
@@Johnmrobinson-vb5vd The interesting thing about the early TV cartoons, which is the point in animation history where non-cartoonist writers got hierarchical preference over the animators, is that the animators were still given free reign to be creative with the visuals, on shows like Rocky & Bullwinkle, Alvin & the Chipmunks, Roger Ramjet, etc. But by the end of the 60s even that was over.
I thought The ren and stimpy reboot was gonna be Just like the original show with The old writers coming back for one last hurrah but Just like other rebooted shows, it fails to resemble what magic it once had. The thing that makes Ren and Stimpy Unique is that it was airing on a kids program like Nickelodeon, and In it's run time it showed a lot of things inappropriate for kids at the time but they work their way around it
@cartoonaesthetics it's still kinda sad how other reboots are nothing like what the originals had but we all know it's simply a cash title to reboot the franchise The powerpuff girls for example
The new show is watchable, decently funny hackwork that's only copying what Games did 30 years ago. Let's go through the checklist. -Ren casually naming off ways Stimpy annoys him -Stimpy commits an act of self-sacrificing, over-the-top fealty to Ren -Random, wise-guy animals -Bad puns -Verbal excrement joke -Stimpy gets them killed through stupidity -Gross out visual that looks unpleasant without being too gory (Ren's eye caught in the mouse trap) -Ren happy to be mean and violent when granted impunity -Stimpy doing all the work while Ren is a lazy asshole Only a few things are missing so far, gratuitous abuse (especially of Ren) by a walk-on character and general creepy atmosphere. This is still better than 2016 Powerpuff Girls (which lost practically everything good about the original and was even more yak-happy).
I don't think the Games Era is as good as people now say it is due to retroactive hatred for John K. Yes, he did evil things, but that doesn't suddenly make the Games Era good or mean that he wasn't a huge factor in why seasons one and two were good. I'm glad someone still has the balls to say so.
The fandom used to be really sharply divided between the pre & post Spumco / John K seasons but in the fullness of time I think the "Games" seasons have become appreciated for having plenty of gems. The show's content isn't important compared to what its success was able to do for artists in the industry, anyway

Terminal Stimpy was exactly what I remembered, they recycled the same joke even having Stimpy nearly kill himself in the same way (minus the fakeout that he didn’t actually die from the match)
hi brickhead
I think they also took ideas from the comics in aww hell no, there was a comic chapter in Ren and Stimpy where Stimpy sold everything for charity, even their own house Ren got so angry at this that he left Stimpy saying he never wants to see him again jimminy loumox appeared and showed him what his life would be like without Stimpy. Feel free to look it up, there were facial expressions drawn in it like we saw in aw hell no
I would like to add that Elsupremo Ren is one of my favorite parts of the comic, I always expected it to be made into this episode, but now I don't know what it would be like or worth it now ..
30 years later, R&S has come full circle. It is now Tiny Toons.
(I say that as someone who kind of liked Tiny Toons.)
I have two thoughts
-
Yeah. She def joined out of spite of John K.
There was always this sense of worry I had for the Ren And Stimpy reboot before the leaked pilot showed up.
Yeah sucks to be a real fan
Are you the real makinita? :) If you are this is awesome I love your arts and cartoons man :)
Makinita Hey!
I rather create a nickelodeon original movie Mariala than watching Ren and Stimpy Reboot
I don't think anyone here needed nor wanted to read that last sentence, but thanks anyways.
Well, his father is a Catholic priest in APC but in Hermit Ren he's a cracker farmer so it's a toss-up
Hispanic american then
Half Dutch and half Mexican
@@BBWahoo A sephardic jewish chihuahua 🤣😂
Putin is probably gonna hang around for some time
That's south parks schtick...
Hate the Cartoon Writing trend, wouldn't even call it a trend. Its been there since the begining. Came from your twitter 👍.
Holy sh1t. Didn't even know you had a channel, and didn't know the trailer dropped. Alot to unpacked here. ...Subbed.
The entire first episode leaked. It sucks on toast.
Yeah me too!
Naively, I really thought that no matter who was put in charge, they would at least be cartoonists!
LEAVE👏CARTOONS👏TO👏PEOPLE 👏WHO 👏LIKE👏CARTOONS👏
Should just call it Renimaniacs or Ren & Morty
That’s insulting because even Rick and Morty had respect for Ren and Stimpy’s legacy. The ōwō faces they make in that show are a reference to Ren and Stimpy.
@@zombies4evadude24 I don't think that's a reference to R&S. And even if it were, having Dan Harmon's respect is not a desirable accolade.
3:35 Leo Wong did get recast in the Futurama revival, so it’s not even consistent with specific people.
It seems like a gambit of "Is this person high profile enough to get called out, but not so entrenched they won't get a pass" - Billy West has been around long enough, I guess
Exactly this. You don't hear people calling out Phil Lamarr for portraying a Japanese guy.
The initial response to this show was like my spumpill of sorts, but when I’ve finally seen it, it’s total poo poo, it was all for nothing. Still looking forward to the iPhone episode, it’ll be funny for all the wrong reasons (unless it’s been written off)
You know i think most tv is just a vehicle for commercials now i never thought of it til you said it but yeah thats exactly what it is now
Well obviously that's been the format of TV since the beginning but I think you can tell when people are trying to make a quality show vs. just grinding it out
@@cartoonaesthetics yeah that's what I mean
Wow what a brilliant observation there, genius
Are you really surprised, though? It's being made for _Comedy_ Central. Of course it's going to be comedy writer-centric. That said, it is disappointing that they clearly don't get what Ren & Stimpy was all about.
No, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but at some point early on they were going to have original R&S people writing & doing art for the series, but they got hosed
Actually the games era is a mix bag, but still have some good episodes.

@@cartoonaesthetics ok, my favorite games era episode is stimpy's cartoon show when they make fun of john k's perfectionism.
@@cpubigdipper9145 And the interesting thing is that at the beginning of the episode, John's name appears, this was later cut out, so John knew about this and it didn't bother him, there is an uncut version, it has John's name on it . @@queenkurumi8504 i see
It's not the best but has some good episodes in there. The first 2 seasons weren't all best's as well.
I saw this video pop up in my recommended and i looked it up before watching this, i wasn't able to find the full episodes but these are the exact thoughts i was having watching what could find.

Good to know this going to be hack no talent writers.
The whole mousetrap scene demonstrated the big issues. Such a simple gag butchered by even timing and no unique poses or acting.
The new show is watchable, decently funny hackwork that's only copying what Games did 30 years ago. Let's go through the checklist.
-Ren casually naming off ways Stimpy annoys him
-Stimpy commits an act of self-sacrificing, over-the-top fealty to Ren
-Random, wise-guy animals
-Bad puns
-Verbal excrement joke
-Stimpy gets them killed through stupidity
-Gross out visual that looks unpleasant without being too gory (Ren's eye caught in the mouse trap)
-Ren happy to be mean and violent when granted impunity
-Stimpy doing all the work while Ren is a lazy asshole
Only a few things are missing so far, gratuitous abuse (especially of Ren) by a walk-on character and general creepy atmosphere. This is still better than 2016 Powerpuff Girls (which lost practically everything good about the original and was even more yak-happy).
Pretty much
I don't think the Games Era is as good as people now say it is due to retroactive hatred for John K. Yes, he did evil things, but that doesn't suddenly make the Games Era good or mean that he wasn't a huge factor in why seasons one and two were good. I'm glad someone still has the balls to say so.
