Really well explained, thank you for walking through each parameter, best ADS microstrip tutorial I've seen

hello, thank you for the video! but 2:46 frequency 2.4GHz what means?

The 2.4GHz is the frequency of operation. Or the frequency that the structure works at

Nice video! Hey, I have one question regarding the Microstrip TL's, I was doing a tuning of lengths for a power amplifier to get my correct matching, one of my Microstrips gives me a value of 1,5 mm, and even with 1mm I get a better matching (doing the imaginary part almost 0) but I'm not really sure if that's an issue, I mean having a very short length, is a problem? (well apart of how can it be implemented in the PCB) do you know if that's an issue? my frequency is 2,9GHz ;)

Hi Giovanny, I'm glad that you liked the video. Usually there should be a minimum length for the TL. If the length of the TL is so short, probably you don't even need that TL. Or you can have the length of the TL a multiple of half of the wavelength to get the same impedance. In the ADS Tline tool, you can simply add 180 degrees to the length of the TL and you see the reflection coefficient rotates to where you started from. But I think there might be something wrong with the topology of the matching network that you chose for your PA that your design led to a very short TL. I hope my answer helped.

How you choice parmeters of line
Width and length ,if we have quarter wave lenth ?

Hi Benammar. Thanks for your great question. A quarter wave line determines the electrical length of the line, which has a direct relationship with the physical line length. Theoretically, the electrical phase shift of the line (theta), which is in this case pi/2 or 90 degrees, can be found according to the equation theta=(2*pi/lambda)*L, where lambda is the wave length, L is the physical length of the line, and pi=3.1415.
About the width, it is determined by the line characteristic impedance and has nothing to do with the length of the transmission line. Please refer to: www.microwaves101.com/encyclopedias/microstrip for more information.

Hi, I've a question regarding to the phase shift(E_Eff), why should we need to shift the signal 90° as you mentioned @5:00 in the video, what is the purpose to delayed the signal in such way through the transmission line. BTW: Thanks for the video, its very well explained.

Hi Hector, thanks for watching the video and your good questions. The 90 degrees is just an example and the reason that I used 90 is that most of the time we need to do impedance transformation using a quarter-wavelength line (90-degree line at the frequency of operation). But in general, the line can be designed using any values for the phase shift.

Nice video but please my question is if i want to design a resonator sensor that can work on 2.45GHz how can i go about it ?

Resonator sensor is a totally different topic. Perhaps in the future, I will create a video for that.

Unfortunately, this software is not available for online usage. It must be downloaded and installed on a computer and also you need license to be able to use it
