I wish I knew about the 5 Tests 2 years ago. Great video. 52 minutes of pure Gold.
My book title Muck Off does not pass the test. The subtitle should have been the title: The starting point to your happily ever after.
How to name your channel, video,
1. I want...
2. Clarity over cleverness
3. Positive energy test (text, color)
4. Native tongue text( make a list of the jargon your audience uses)
5. Memorability test (being remembered and gaining attention)

I have been taking the time to go back to basics now that I have been pushing videos for over a year. As I have honed in on my niche (which is an untapped area), I am looking to be more intentional about the titles, coloring, etc. I thought I was doing the right things but apparently I needed a refresher. This was my favorite video thus far and thank you for having the guest.

@@TheCreatorClassroomWell I'll be, you did go looking! In the end, you may think it's much to do about nothing, but I was sincere. I really do think this guy's "5 titles test" is fantastic! I find the way he conceptualizes titling as infinitely useful.
@@iamnotacat7018 after I did my screen shot to whiteboard method I put it on my watch later list. I have seen it before. But I believe that somethings hit differently after experience so I'll watch again.

Wow. This is so eye-opening and so much different than anything I'd imagined I might hear within this. I already realize I MUST change the title of a project I've been working on. I've hit many blocks on that project, which I started 10 months ago and had initially imagined would take just 2-3 weeks to complete. But I ended up shelving it for some time with many of the blocks taking place, took it back out recently, again thought I'd be done pretty quickly, hit more blocks.....and then I heard this. Now I realize the amazing cover that was created and the fabulous (so I thought) title I'd been so happy about is probably a sales killer. Perhaps all the setbacks saved it since I can now change the title and the artwork...another setback in a way and disappointing but I'd rather it be this way and be able to actually save it...rather than all my efforts end up being a waste in the end.

This is interesting. But youtube specifically, theres a LOT of data showing that people are more likely to click something out of negative affirmation. "WORST show ever" will get more clicks that "BEST show ever"
I'm sure its a genre thing though.

I got to be honest video ranking academy sits better with me than viral video academy. As consumer I guess looking for something that's going to be consistent and apply to helping all of my videos do better, and I just kind of instinctively know that not all of my videos are going to go viral, but I can make all of them rank better which gives them a better chance to go viral! But that's just me.

This is super helpful! I spent a lot of time working out my channel name. "Deborah the Baptist" is perfect for my niche. Creating video titles is certainly an art form! Thank you Sean for these interviews! So many of them have been super helpful to me!
Would love to get your thoughts on sharing our videos in ‘topic related’ Facebook groups? Good? Bad? Indifferent? - my concern is that while the people in the group might watch our video, should they share our video with their friends (who may have no interest in our content) that could start to reduce our % retention numbers? - if you think sharing in FB groups is a good thing, then when is the best time to do this? First 24-48 hours? Or let TH-cam do it’s thing for a week or two and then tap up the FB groups??
