    You made a easy job very hard, also you made 3 extra cuts instead of 1 double cut at the top right corner to the top to the ceiling line.

    You're right about filling of joints Gerard .
    I don't understand why ppl do it.

    • @kevinclark1002
      @kevinclark1002 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never fully butted joints using lining paper when going to Emulsion walls, reason being if walls are old with hollows etc if you butt joints there is a good chance when paper is dry you will get quite a few overlaps which as we all know is not what we want.
      I leave a 1mm gap, first coat walls and then fill highlighted gaps, rub down gently, touch up and final coat.
      Perfect joints and perfectly finished walls. ( or ceilings)

    Great video well explained ,I was wondering how would this splicing work if it’s a paste the wall wallpaper round a window reveal

  • @Rvdbarnes

    Was the piece of paper above the window lined up with the piece below the window? Would have been good to see how upper and lower came together at the other side of the window?

    Hi Gerard, when lining under/for a finish wallpaper, do you line around the window corners (and other external corners for that matter) or do you stop short of the corner bead and leave the actual corner bare? It's just that sometimes I have noticed that having two layers of paper around an external corner can sometimes look a little "lumpy" for want of a better expression. Also have you used the wallrock lining paper (paste the wall?). Many thanks.

  • @TheOlzee
    @TheOlzee ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey. Could you maintain a pattern with this style of splice? I feel like you’d loose the paper this way.

    • @gerardoneillhandpaintedkit9714

    That's wrong you have done it full width, when it should have been lined up with the first drop. You spliced the wrong part.

    • @MrFilimn
      @MrFilimn 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It doesn't matter on this because the walls are being painted so there's no pattern to match.

    • @stuartmcintosh7187
      @stuartmcintosh7187 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sad thing is some of these numpties are maybe bashing out a room in a day on quite a high price for that day but cheaper than getting us in for two days. In some cases they probably earn more than I do in per day but yet I am more expensive to the customer. They get caught out in the long run when they don’t get customers for life

  • @grahambrown5874

    Nice job, you talk a lot of sense. The only thing I would add if you had been hanging wallpaper rather than lining paper and you wipe the past off the window frame with a sponge, don’t then go and continue flattening the rest of the paper with the sponge because your spreading the past around. After I put up the second sheet I go back to the first and wipe down all the edges with a cloth and fresh warm water to remove all the paste, otherwise you can see the reflection it causes when dried. One other trick I learned when hanging dark wallpaper or murals, is to paint an inch wide down the wall where the paper will join with a tester pain the same colour as the paper. Then if the paper parts, you don’t see the light wall colouring through the gap.

    Hi bud.I got really bad walls.I’ve prepared them the best I can.but I’m going to use 2000 grade lining paper.would you still go on the solvite recommendation when mixing the paste.or because of it being so heavy would you mix the paste thicker like you were hanging vinyl paper?

    • @richardowen2159

      Hey bud,I always have a squirty bottle of water,and dampen the lining paper,helps a lot,saves a bit on soaking time too.

    Can you recommend what lining paper to buy if you will be pasting the wall. I was thinking of buying wallrock fibreliner but will the ready mixed paste be any good to use or won't it sink into the paper.

    • @gerardoneillhandpaintedkit9714
      @gerardoneillhandpaintedkit9714  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi when using wall rock lining paper if your pasteing the wall definitely use a ready mixed adhesive but not a heavy duty one.

    Shows you how to paper round a window (ye know) while telling the old 'interior designor' story. Painters are the only trade who slag off their own kind.
    I've been one for over 40 years and constantly hear this same story about the hero 'getting recommended' and saving the day. (Ye know)
    The constant gossip and bitching has dented the confidance of a lot of young guys in the trade, imagine being an apprentice an having to listen to that self agrandising all day : the papering demonstration was secondry to the gossip demonstration, that was what he really wanted to talk about.
    People in general won't pay what a job is worth, so dont blame the tradesman for having to hurry and save time/material where he can to try to make a profit. There are wee fishwives like this at every company in the country...(ye know)
    Better suited to sucking up to people than making videos ye know.
