      Remi Moore This one is - has a very, very gentle disposition. Actually he turned out to be a she. Hahahha. Fooled me for a while there with her baby plumage - the blue in the wings molted out when the adult plumage came in. 🤣

      PippyPets hi, I got a few year old male Parrotlet from a pretty large family of kids...so he came to me with a bit of issues and a tad set in his ways.
      while he is mostly sweet, he has most certainly been mistreated in his little life and does still randomly attack bite me without any warning or reasoning (that I’ve been able to tell so far). But it seems to be only once every 2-3weeks, at least, and he’s never broken the skin completely.
      He is extremely needy, and wants to be on me 24/7. I’ve recently just worked on basic target training with him, which he seems to be learning fairly quickly, but I’ve taken a very laxed approach, so I don’t turn him off from wanting to learn.
      I was wondering how much more difficult is it training an older parrotlet vs. a baby? I’ve only trained young birds, and it seemed so much easier.
      Should I not bother him any further since I’ve gotten him to finally just trust me with the basics of just stepping up and loving on me? I can’t seem to perch train him because he won’t stop flying to me and loving on me- which he was doing from day one- just on a more secure and happy level now.
      I don’t want to cause him any unnecessary stress so is that all enough for him to learn? Or would he be fine to continue on?
      Thanks for any advice❤️✌️

    I got a 2year old parrotlet. I was told he is an ex- breeder. He is very jumpy and skittish. Do you think I will be able to tame him at all. He will not come near me when I try to give him millet from the outside of his cage. He flys to the other side of the cage when I bring him food. I’ve had him for 2 weeks now. Any suggestions?

    Hi PippyPets, I might get a turquoise linnie in 6 wks. Still waiting for eggs to hatch and lets see if there is a turquoise one. I saw your linnie when you were with Love of Pets at the bird show. Any pros & cons about linnies? Any tips/advice? I was told that they poop big, which is unfortunate since I hold my bird, rather than shoulder it. How often do they go to the bathroom? At least my parrotlet's poop isn't big.

    Hi, is it true that adult parrotlets don't get along in a cage? I was told by a breeder, but the young ones are OK.

    • @PippyPets
      @PippyPets  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the question.
      Yes, that’s pretty much true. Babies may be able to be housed together, but even then, I wouldn’t advise it.
      Definitely once they hit puberty and from there on in, they can kill each other if in the same cage.
      *Always* house separately. 🙂

      @MrTr3D 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, thank you for the great advice. I was thinking of getting another parrotlet and was hoping that they can be together. Good that I asked. My next one is a linnie. Still waiting for breeder's eggs to hatch. My brother just got a linnie and realized that they were bigger than parrotlets. I hope my new linnie and my parrotlet will get along. Mine is so shy and I doubt he'll attack the linnie, but I'll watch them. If I have to leave them, I'll separate them just to be safe.

    He's skinny like my bird (15 wks old). Mine is scared to death whenever I try to pet him. His wings are clipped, but now I guess they're growing and so he flies toward my finger, rather than climbing up like yours.

      +Todd Womack jr Thanks for watching! I purchased this particular baby from annice lady whose pets happened to have babies. She's not a large-scale breeder. I'm not sure if she's still breeding.

    Just nudge them a little bit and they got up. My bird would sit on my shoulder while I do dishes. When it's time to go to bed. I just bedtime he would go to his cage . I don't clip it's wings at all. Why because clipping would limit their flying and they feel tied down if they are clipped. Birds are meant to fly. They feel freedom .

    An absolutely gorgeous or handsome bird... Although, what I've noticed that you tend to do when holding your birds is that you allow them to roam freely. when holding a bird you should hold down one of their feet in order to keep them still and more easily able to control them when training. ------Not criticizing, I love your account and I'm just trying to help you (incase you don't know) and other (potential) bird owners!

    • @PippyPets
      @PippyPets  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you for your suggestion - not taken as a criticism at all! 😊👍.
      I totally agree - holding the foot can keep the bird from flying off and is definitely an option.
      For me, I don’t favour that approach with small birds as their legs and feet are so delicate I can easily unintentionally hurt them.
      I purposely have not employed that technique with my larger birds as I want them to feel them can fly off if needed (as opposed to them feeling like they don’t have that option if they are scared, etc.). Alternatively, I harness my birds when outside or in an indoor environment where I cannot control their flight and it’s required for their safety.
      I tend to favour the training approach where one gains the bird’s trust so they prefer to stay with you if spooked knowing you are a “safe perch”, however, that doesn’t work in all situations (as you may know 😊) and holding the foot has definite advantages with larger parrots. I know many who employ this technique successfully and is definitely an alternate option.
      Thanks again - and Happy Monday! 😊😊😊
