An excellent lecture. Perhaps one of the best historical lectures I have heard. It was supported by in-depth research. It was well written and excellently given. A great tribute to an essential part of American history and the liberty of all people!

Glad this was here as we come up on the 160th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. Hope there's an array of lectures like this this winter.

"My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it." -Abraham Lincoln (letter to Horace Greeley)

Yep! That’s it! Lincoln only attempted to free the slaves because the war wasn’t going his way early on!

I’m not so sure about the largest slave population being 4million in America, estimates are 5.8 to 12.5 million were shipped to Brazil.

It is not a complicated document. Just need to read it with an open mind. Why is it America is the only country that fought"to free the slaves"?

    • @markbuchanan9199

That is not why they fought. The cotton supported the federal treasury through tariffs. When the cotton left, so did the money. Do you honestly think he gave a damn about blacks? Don’t be naive

Forced labor was made illegal, unless one breaks the law. But slavery never, ever ended. There are over 403,000 slaves in the US today. Over 2 million in North Korea, 1.8 million in China. American bought pianos after the civil war, the ivory for the keys was transported by African slaves. Lincoln was a racist but s shrewd politician. 790,000 Americans died in a war that didn’t have to happen. He didn’t end slavery and killed Jeffersonian government in America. And they built a monument to him.

Called the war of northern aggression by many for good reason. Preemptive strike at sumpter prevented it, at least temporarily.
