I mean, as someone who works retail, if i was in his shoes, i wouldn't have done much different. You can't guarantee will have it the next day if its not in the system as such. They did tweet the game was coming out physical the next day but sometimes you won't know 100% until that shipment arrives the game is there. That date in the system is 100% a placeholder, and they announced within 2 days of it coming it was being released. As of now, almost no stores in my area even have the thing. He could have said "I see an announcement for a date here but i don't want to guarantee it being here tomorrow due to the short notice and lack of info in our computer" but otherwise its not on any stores for this. Its why the Sega Saturn got such a huge cold shoulder from retailers. Surprise launches are annoying for customers and retailers alike.

The PS4 and Xbox version released in October, and as of 3=4 days ago this game had no release date even by the publisher. So what would he have done? I'm sure most gamestops didn't get physical copies with 3-4 days notice, and their computer systems don't reflect that they would have gotten them yet either. The game may release, but if the publisher screws up the release to the point where brick and mortar stores don't have stock on release date, and employees/corporate doesn't know it's happening, then you can't blame one clueless employee for an entire industry screwing up. I preordered a game at GameStop. I think it was releasing in September 2022. It is January 2023 and GameStop still doesn’t have the game. I cancelled my order and got the game somewhere else.
Whenever I go to one of the two GameStop locations I know of, the employees are very kind. When I went to one of the GameStops to pre-order Smash Bros. Ultimate, the employee at the register was very kind. Hell, I'd expect worse when the game gets released on the 7th of December. I personally really like GameStop. One time I went into GameStop and I wanted to buy battlefield 1 and I got my money and my dad brought me to the store and I went in and asked the women there if I could get battlefield 1 please. She was nice and said sure and typed something into her computer. After a little bit of waiting she said do you want the protection plan? I said no because I have never broken a game before and types another thing into her computer. Then she asks if I would like to sign up for their sign up plan or something and I said no I just want the game and leave. Then she asks how old are you and at the time I was 12 years old so I told her and she said that I need your parents permission. That is where I kind of freaked. I went out to my dads car and asked him to come into the store and he was a little mad but didn’t care as much as I did and after forever I finally got the game and 4 weeks later I started disliking it and stopped playing it
Well if you are 12 and look like you are by yourself then yeah they weren't in the wrong for telling you that you can't buy a rated-M game without your parent/parents with you

There is nothing inherently wrong with this, but in practice it's been reinforcing a trend where studios make shitty games and still profit. You're basically saying you're okay with spending $60 on the strength of a games marketing. You wanna pre-order Smash. Why? Do you honestly believe you won't be able to get a copy on launch day? I went into GameStop to get a little indie game for my switch. The lady ridiculed me told me she had never heard of it and that I was crazy bc no game under that name existed. I left drove to Best Buy walked to the shelf picked it up bought it and left. Amazing that I got a game that didn’t exist huh.
The only problem I had with GameStop (if you would consider it one) was when I bought COD: MW3 with my parents when I was 11, the clerk said "This game is rated M, you sure you wanna buy it?" My parents said yes and we got it and left.

I doubt the staff can sell a pre order for a date based on anything other than that shown on the system, with the exception being long lead times eg when a game has yet to announce the release date. Internet release date info does not necessarily mean they will get release day stock.
In Spring of 2012, a Gamestop employee once tried to trick me into thinking Luigi's Mansion 2 came out on May 2nd 2012, a year before the real release, so he could get me to preorder it right there.

I went into gamestop to pre-order Pokemon heartgold. They told me that the game can be picked up April 22nd. (Mind you this was when the games were new) So I came in on that day to pick up my pre-order which came with a special Ho-Oh figurine. And they told me that all the pre-orders were already picked up. When I asked for the guy to show me the list of pre-orders, my name was on there and it said the copy was due to be picked up April 22nd, along with all the other people who pre-ordered the game. I asked him again and showed him my receipt and he looked at me really pissed off and went to the back, and got my pre-order copy and figurine, and told me "okay here, bye."
I feel like he couldve offered you the preorder but told you he cant guarantee they would have it tomorrow since their system doesn't even have the release date. I wouldnt blame the employee, he's probably drained.
Technically the game isn’t out physically. It won’t be out physical till next week. HOWEVER, the employee didn’t have to be a jerk about it. He could’ve done his research. Kinda like how NBA2K18 was. I have better luck at my GameStop where I am than I actually do at my BestBuy which was hella shocking to me.

I bought two League of Legends prepaid cards from Gamestop, Sweden. I was getting error while entering the code because it seem like the moron at Gamestop did not activate them correctly. I had no idea until i got home after a long paid trip only to call them and tell me to bring it back... Anyway i go back and they tell me that i only bought one card and not two. After 30 min of showing them my payment history, receipt, calling manager, FBI etc... i finally got my cards activated. It was a nightmare and waste of my time.
I've been to quite a few GameStop's here in Norway and other countries, and never had any problems with them whatsoever. Yeah, they try and get you to pre-order stuff and such, but if you think that makes a "terrible experience" then you're the problem. That's their job. People need to stop hating on Gamestop.

The Cloud system they use at Gamestop, takes couple days to update. but that employee should of looked on his phone for you, or he should of checked the inventory if they even had the game in stock, they get games a week in advance to sell.
The worst experience I have had with GameStop (and it was the experience that made me no longer shop with them), was similar to one you had in another story video. I went in to my local GameStop to pick up a copy of Red Dead Redemption for the Xbox 360. I must have been harassed by the employee for fifteen minutes. Do you wish to purchase any other games? No. We have a four-for-twenty deal on select used games! Would you care to look? Again, no. Would you be interested in the PowerUp Rewards card? Again, no. Please, stop asking. All I want is this one game. "All coffee mugs and other items are 10% off! Would you like to buy one? NO! Do you have any games you would like to trade in today? I could go on for much longer, but that is the gist of it. I finally told the employee to keep the copy of Red Dead Redemption, and I walked out, and have not returned since. It has been over a year, and I am very happy to see GameStop's seedy tactics coming back to haunt them. Love the channel! Keep up the good work!

Just watched this amazing content i watched some of your other videos too! I have issues with gamestop too thats why i get mostly digital now (hardly any special adds for physical anyways) and when Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 for ps4 came out gamestop said it was coming out 2 days later. I had to keep saying no till the manager came out and said oh its today and i got my copy. I wonder if they even get the proper training 🤔
vanburen20 I think the physical release date is the 12th in the UK at least but he should have at least asked another member of staff for clarification or someone higher up. Quite a few places in the UK still have that placeholder date but shops like GAME and Tesco as well as amazon show the release date as the 12th
Thing is, I was a GameStop employee for the holidays, and I NEVER pulled that kind of crap, nor would I even think about doing it. The manager could kiss my ass if they ever thought about cutting my pay, let alone fire me.
I had a similar experience, i preordered mortal kombat x on the ps3, whenever they confirmed that the port to last gen was being cancelled i went in to cancel my preorder and they tried haggling me to keep my preorder to ensure my copy and the goro preorder bonus, like nah i want my money back rather than waiting on something that isn't going to happen.

What's weird is when I got my copy of Pokemon Omega Ruby back in 2014, they only asked if I wanted a warranty plan, I said no and they said okay and put the game in the bag. (Don't worry I paid.)
I'm not defending gamestop but if they didn't have a release date in their system, they couldn't guarantee you a copy the next day. I also stopped pre-ordering a long time ago. They are not going to run out of a game. And pre order incentives are now usually included in the game.

There is nothing inherently wrong with this, but in practice it's been reinforcing a trend where studios make shitty games and still profit. You're basically saying you're okay with spending $60 on the strength of a games marketing.
You wanna pre-order Smash. Why? Do you honestly believe you won't be able to get a copy on launch day? You will be able to walk into any Target, Best Buy, GameStop, and Walmart and be able to buy as many copies as you want.

To be honest, I think anyone who preorders games, deserves this kind of service. I mean, you're giving your money away early for a game that may be very buggy or broken.

I went into GameStop to get a little indie game for my switch. The lady ridiculed me told me she had never heard of it and that I was crazy bc no game under that name existed. I left drove to Best Buy walked to the shelf picked it up bought it and left. Amazing that I got a game that didn’t exist huh.
The only problem I had with GameStop (if you would consider it one) was when I bought COD: MW3 with my parents when I was 11, the clerk said "This game is rated M, you sure you wanna buy it?" My parents said yes and we got it and left.

system was not updated due to the short lead time between announcement and release date. I doubt the staff can sell a pre order for a date based on anything other than that shown on the system, with the exception being long lead times eg when a game has yet to announce the release date. Internet release date info does not necessarily mean they will get release day stock.
In Spring of 2012, a Gamestop employee once tried to trick me into thinking Luigi's Mansion 2 came out on May 2nd 2012, a year before the real release, so he could get me to preorder it right there.

Just sounds like one employee who didn’t have the common sense to look on his own phone for the updated release date instead of swearing by what GameStop corporate had as the placeholder date. (That 12/31 date they had wouldn’t have been updated for a few days after the announcement) Didn’t mean to make it sound like I was attacking you, but I just feel like you blow things way out of proportion with situations like this. No one saw this release coming and this one employee didn’t give the best customer service. It’s not a reflection of every person that works for the company though. When I was there and if you were insisting they updated the release date I would have checked the internet myself but still let you know that since the store computer didn’t have updated info that I personally don’t know if it is actually coming in or not. This guy sounded confrontational so he was wrong. He was probably having a bad day and tired of dealing with people haha. Anyway after that long explanation I agree GameStop is horrible as a company but this experience you had was just with this one dude. Plenty of other people at the store level would have (should have) handled it differently. At the end of the day though with that game in particular.... Don’t you kinda wish he was right? Hahaha.
I went into gamestop to pre-order Pokemon heartgold. They told me that the game can be picked up April 22nd. (Mind you this was when the games were new)
So I came in on that day to pick up my pre-order which came with a special Ho-Oh figurine. And they told me that all the pre-orders were already picked up. When I asked for the guy to show me the list of pre-orders, my name was on there and it said the copy was due to be picked up April 22nd, along with all the other people who pre-ordered the game. I asked him again and showed him my receipt and he looked at me really pissed off and went to the back, and got my pre-order copy and figurine, and told me "okay here, bye."

Technically the game isn’t out physically. It won’t be out physical till next week. HOWEVER, the employee didn’t have to be a jerk about it. He could’ve done his research. Kinda like how NBA2K18 was. I have better luck at my GameStop where I am than I actually do at my BestBuy which was hella shocking to me.

I bought two League of Legends prepaid cards from Gamestop, Sweden. I was getting error while entering the code because it seem like the moron at Gamestop did not activate them correctly. I had no idea until i got home after a long paid trip only to call them and tell me to bring it back... Anyway i go back and they tell me that i only bought one card and not two. After 30 min of showing them my payment history, receipt, calling manager, FBI etc... i finally got my cards activated. It was a nightmare and waste of my time.

I've only ever pre-ordered one game before (being Pokemon Moon) and I did it at Target. Great service there.
I've been to quite a few GameStop's here in Norway and other countries, and never had any problems with them whatsoever. Yeah, they try and get you to pre-order stuff and such, but if you think that makes a "terrible experience" then you're the problem. That's their job. People need to stop hating on Gamestop.

The Cloud system they use at Gamestop, takes couple days to update. but that employee should of looked on his phone for you, or he should of checked the inventory if they even had the game in stock, they get games a week in advance to sell.

The worst experience I have had with GameStop (and it was the experience that made me no longer shop with them), was similar to one you had in another story video. I went in to my local GameStop to pick up a copy of Red Dead Redemption for the Xbox 360. I must have been harassed by the employee for fifteen minutes. Do you wish to purchase any other games? No. We have a four-for-twenty deal on select used games! Would you care to look? Again, no. Would you be interested in the PowerUp Rewards card? Again, no. Please, stop asking. All I want is this one game. "All coffee mugs and other items are 10% off! Would you like to buy one? NO! Do you have any games you would like to trade in today?
I could go on for much longer, but that is the gist of it. I finally told the employee to keep the copy of Red Dead Redemption, and I walked out, and have not returned since. It has been over a year, and I am very happy to see GameStop's seedy tactics coming back to haunt them. Love the channel! Keep up the good work!

Just watched this amazing content i watched some of your other videos too! I have issues with gamestop too thats why i get mostly digital now (hardly any special adds for physical anyways) and when Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 for ps4 came out gamestop said it was coming out 2 days later. I had to keep saying no till the manager came out and said oh its today and i got my copy. I wonder if they even get the proper training 🤔

vanburen20 I think the physical release date is the 12th in the UK at least but he should have at least asked another member of staff for clarification or someone higher up. Quite a few places in the UK still have that placeholder date but shops like GAME and Tesco as well as amazon show the release date as the 12th
Thing is, I was a GameStop employee for the holidays, and I NEVER pulled that kind of crap, nor would I even think about doing it. The manager could kiss my ass if they ever thought about cutting my pay, let alone fire me.

I had a similar experience, i preordered mortal kombat x on the ps3, whenever they confirmed that the port to last gen was being cancelled i went in to cancel my preorder and they tried haggling me to keep my preorder to ensure my copy and the goro preorder bonus, like nah i want my money back rather than waiting on something that isn't going to happen.
You should really consider Not arguing with the Gamestop employees, Really. Its a waste of your intelligence, and the results are definitely not lucrative enough to have any sort of accomplishment. And well, it does make you look foolish.

I'm not defending gamestop but if they didn't have a release date in their system, they couldn't guarantee you a copy the next day. I also stopped pre-ordering a long time ago. They are not going to run out of a game. And pre order incentives are now usually included in the game.

I have never had any problem when i purchased game from gamestops. If game get released from date you mentioned, you should just google it and show it to the guy instead of arguing back and forth with the employee there. He could possibly only access info from the corp. computer set date.
