+TRX Vlogger Nice work on your videos, streets and trails is all that's on offer over here so have to make the most of it. You should do some dune videos on your trx
Yeah I am going to do some Dune Riding probably this Summer or something. Maybe even Fall of this year more then Likely it will be much cooler out side then. Also I love where you live looks like a great place!
+Pierre Polgar thanks buddy I appreciate the support, fresh videos this summer, just waiting for my 450R to be rebuilt, had gearbox issues so needed to pull the engine out the frame again
Just made my 2018 yfz450r street legal here in the United States. Had a quick question for you. My quad wants to wander when I get up to 40-45 mph and feels quite unpredictable. What is your setup as far as camber, toe in/out or did you add aftermarket a arms with adjustable caster? Also what kind of psi do you run in your tires? I think im gonna go with some adjustable upper a arms to change up the caster bc the yfz450r is known for faulty caster. I’d also like to get a Rath sway bar and maybe lower the quad a little. Any recommendations on suspension or geometry adjustments are welcome and highly appreciated, thank you in advance!
It’s rare to have a road legal YFZ450R in the States, nice one for getting it legal. As far as camber and caster is concerned, I’ve left it the same as when came out the factory, no issues running at 70mph, apart from seizing cranks over the years, but that’s due to running for too long at the top end. I’m running stock suspension and a-arms, sounds odd that it becomes unstable at that speed, my assumption would be tire pressures but as you say could be your geometry is out, I run 10psi in the front and 8psi in the rears, I spend most of my time off road and just use the roads to get to the trails, so if spending the majority of your time on tarmac you may want to up the pressure a few psi all round. I’ve heard the ltr spindles on the front make for a better set up. As far as suspension goes, if budget allows I’d go for fox float 3’s or Elka stage 5 suspension and match if with a set of +2 Walsh a-arms and a rpm dominator +2 rear axle, that will give you full adjustability all round. There is a forum and a Facebook page called yfz central, if you ask on there you’ll get some solid advice from some experts who know the 450R inside out and should be able to pin point exactly what needs adjusting. Good luck with it all and let me know how you get on
@@synergysynergy yeah the state I live in (West Virginia) has made all atv’s and utv’s street legal with licensing and inspection. You have to have turn signals front and rear, horn mirrors, license plate light and speedometer. I’m kinda wondering if my toe in is just a tad to much. It didn’t get that noticeable until I installed the duro scorcher street treads and now it just wants to wander. I’m gonna get some Walsh or houser a arms with adjustable castor and see how that helps and have a professional do the alignment. Planning on getting a newer raptor 700 and make it my street quad and convert my yfz450r back to trails bc that’s where the yfz450r shines. Thanks for the info and I’ll get the kinks worked out of it eventually.
That’s a result they allow them in your state now. Sounds like it must be down to the geometry, if running full street tyres (supermoto type) then I reckon you can add a few more psi, I know when I ran my street tyres I was up to 14 or 15 psi all round. Were the tyres perfectly balanced when they fitted them up, I know sometimes people have to add those weights like they do with cars, that would definitely put the tracking off, but you’d like to think that they shouldn’t need it. A set of adjustable a-arms will give you endless adjustability so should be able to dial out the issue. Raptor 700 is perfect for the street, no stressing over seized cranks and geared perfectly for the road.
LOL I would get in sooo much trouble if I tried this in the USA ---- I got tickets riding my Yamaha quad on country back roads but this guy is speeding around on divided highway and tunnels ---- he got balls of brass for sure
I'd trade the road legal factor for all the awesome terrain you guys have on your doorstep in the States lol. I bet the cops in the States go berserk if they catch you on the road.
+Bill Belzek Ahh I see, it's good there not all after blood and turn a blind eye to it, I suppose it's the city cops that have a constant battle with the 100's of crossers and quads who take over the streets and cause mayhem
Hey man, yeah still ride quads but currently abroad for the foreseeable. Check out the quad heaven Facebook page, as you should be able to find some local riders if you make a post on there. As for trails if you can get down to dorking in Surrey, there are plenty of green lanes to explore in that area if you like off roading. I’ll save your username and ping you a message when we are back riding on Uk soil 🤝
Old video but hoping someone can answer this question! I'm about to buy a Raptor 700 to use on the road. Second road legal quad. Had one a few years ago and miss it. My question is...is it legal to traffic filter on a quad? Every forum full of angry bikers talking about how much they hate quads...no definitive answer!
As mentioned on the other comment, I think it’s technically illegal but you could always plead ignorance. There is a Facebook page called quad heaven full of Uk quad riders, they may be able to give you a definitive answer with regards to filtering
hey man, I have a w-tec racing quad which is (near) road legal, with a 450CRF engine, does it do 450 engines any good at ,say, 75mph all time? will I have alot of trouble? Otherwise I'll have to save up some more
Superb quad the w-tec's, a proper custom race quad, the crf engine is a very powerful engine, a few people actually covert the yfz450's to run a crf engine just due to the extra power and reliability. To be totally honest running at 75mph for a constant period of time isn't the best for the engine, as you know these are made for the track and designed to be run through all gears constantly changing speeds round the track, flat out on the motorway is definitely increasing you likeliness of engine death, it happened with mine and I used to try and float between 50-70mph on the motorway, if you scan through my videos you'll see when it happened, title is quad died or something along those lines. My friends with the Raptor 700's have a much easier time cruising at 70+ without issue, the engine also doesn't sound like its gonna detonate at the speed, whereas the 450 sounds likes its gonna implode. Try an get some videos up of your w-tec as you don't see many in the uk.

Do you take yours green laning down liphook/Petersfield way, are there any good places to go around there, I know they have the army land down there, are there sections that are allocated for 4x4's etc?
What to take Yamaha yfz 450 оr Kawasaki kfx 700.Which is better? The speeds are not my problem, but I wonder not change it in time, you and I'm very high 1.94.
+Mihail Todorow The Kfx 700 is a top bike, really depends what 450 your looking at, whether it's a carb of fuel injected, also comes down to where you plan to spend most of your time riding, if it's the road then maybe go for the 700, if track and trails then I'd go for the better handling 450

OMGEngage Personally I prefer the off road trails etc, these yfz450R's aren't happy sitting at constant top end speed, built for mx tracks really. I would consider the Yfz250 or even a yfz450R, you can always go for the older carb Yamaha yfz450, which you can pick up for £1600+ lots of them available on ebay, tread carefully though when buying second hand, as a fair few dogs out there, always look far better in the pictures than in person.

Luckily I haven't been stopped once in over two years, I guess it's just comes down to coming across a cop who is having a bad day or nothing better to do than give you a spin, purely down to being curious. If you're looning around popping wheelies on every bit of tarmac, then I guess your chances of getting pulled are slightly increased ;) members of the public are the worst for reporting you, as many see quads as a nuisance an can't comprehend that we are allowed on byways/green lanes.

On the plus side, I bet you guys have some amazing places to ride, as you can see from my videos we are pretty limited for off road adventures.

Riding on the road is good fun but more suited for the Raptor 700's, these poor old 450r's prefer to stick to track & trails.
RideItLikeYouStoleIt Yeah from this angle they do look very similar, I wish I had the top end speed of the Raptor, you can cruise in 5th, whereas the 450R sounds like it's going to detonate, it doesn't like constant wot in 5th.
You’re absolutely right, but I tend to do most of my riding on the trails even though the majority of the videos are of street riding. From what I’ve read these yfz’s don’t like continuous top speed riding so for me personally it’s better that it tops out early even though it would be nice at times to have some extra top end..
+Mihail Todorow My crank seized in this video th-cam.com/video/yVxx2EXMp8k/w-d-xo.html but apart from that I've had 100's of hours on the original piston & crank, they recommend a rebuild on the 450's after a certain amount of hours and I far exceeded that limit. As long as you do regular oil changes and check the valve clearances every so often you won't ever have problems, just stay away from too much motorway riding at wot, the 450's aren't meant for that.
In answer to your other question.. the Kfx 700 is a top bike, really depends what 450 your looking at, whether it's a carb of fuel injected, also comes down to where you plan to spend most of your time riding, if it's the road then maybe go for the 700, if track and trails then I'd go for the better handling 450

To be honest I think my speedo has gremlins most of the time where it reads ludicrously high, top speed is around 70mph on the 450R.
the thumb throttle is suicide but think of the mobility and fuel savings for all second and third world nations and wherever here is !
i prefer thumb throttles on quads, it lets me keep the power smooth in tight or bumpy corners. if i jumped more i might like a twisty though.

How fast do you cruise on the highway?
+Rider Mark We float between 55-70mph, keeping it at a constant 70mph doesn't do the 450R engine any favours as we found out the hard way.
+Synergy did the same with my access 450 and i had to buy a new engine.
Yeah these pup engines need to stay away from motorways, they are explosive on the trails and track though so that makes up for it.
If you cruise on half throttle at higher speeds you keep the engine good. At full throttle you will klill it like Kim B did...
Rider Mark well good luck to keep 70mph with half throttle on a quad.

Will drive mostly in forest
+Mihail Todorow If it was me I would probably edge towards a 450, check out the Suzuki ltr450 as they are just as good as the yamaha
+Synergy Thank you for all the information.I wish you many miles without accidents.
