Hilly Kristal on CBGB

Hilly got a front seat on the origins of punk rock because his club established the center of gravity on the movement thanks to punk poet Patti Smith long before the emergence of the Sex Pistols or Clash. The Ramones and Dead Boys were first, and were the quintessential punk bands, but there was also an intellectual side to the DIY zeitgeist emerging at the club embodied by Hilly's favorite band, Talking Heads.
