Triple H got so lucky his career did not end. I did not realize the kind of push this gave Steve Austin though. Wrestling is a business truly unlike any other.
Kevin Erickson It's interesting people are thankful for the incident in that it propelled SCSA to mega stardom but at the same time there's a lot of people out there who heap shit on WCW for not pushing Steve Austin.

YurManDavid A lot of it comes down to being in the right place, right time with the right people booking. For instance I feel Kevin Nash had a better run in WCW than he did in the WWF. But I always felt Sycho Sid was better handled in the WWF than WCW. Austin made a wise move coming to the WWF in 95 when the WCW roster had far more household names and there was no chance he'd have been given a run in those circumstances. I think hes specifically sited Hogan and his pals coming over as the problem. But later on Austin became this Hogan-esque type when he refused to put over upcomers like Brock Lesner. Hogan and Shawn Michaels get a lot of shit for being political whereas Austin by and large seems to get a free pass.
There are some wrestlers who are GREAT but if they only had McMahon’s backing would they fully reach their potential. Steve was always a good worker in the ring and even better on the mic but Vince has the marketing and creative to take you to levels you can only dream. When you look at WCW in the early 90s,Austin blended in with the Southern Rasslin,loud talking,spit flying,bar room style aesthetic but once he got to Vince,McMahon fed him just enough at a time to the point that the WWF who was the antithesis of Southern Rasslin now had “The Texas Rattlesnake” “the toughest SOB” as the face(pun intended) of their brand. The days of Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart as your white meat babyface were done,the people wanted the rawness of Austin.
thalrg22 To be fair to Bret he spent the last 6 months in the WWF as quite a successful heel while at the same Hogan was in the NWO and slapping the WWF silly in the ratings. It was around that time that Austin was really getting over.

I stopped. watching wrestling. completely after the attitude era. I recently around a year ago started watching again. That is the same time I really started watching TH-cam . It's not a coincidence. Your channel and wrestling with regret is the reason . I am in. my mid 40s now and watched in early years when Saturday's were wcw/nwa. Sunday mornings was wwf. That was the 80's. And all till attitude era. I now watch as much as I can and all ppv.for wwe. But I enjoy your channel so much and thank you for helping get caught up and now enjoying something. I walked away from and regret doing so. A HUGE thank you to you both and Brian Zain for bringing. back my passion.

In a strange way, Austin coming in and taking Triple H's spot was where their rivalry truly started. Austin was rising, while Helmsley was falling.
If you really think about it, we could thank Triple H for making Stone Cold the megastar he was in the attitude era.
