My uncle was on MS Estonia when it sank. He survived but two of his friends died. And also my parents were meant to be on that sinking ship that night but my sister got sick and they had to cancel their trip. I am so glad for that. Rest in peace for everyone involved in that event

The MS Estonia disaster is the second deadliest peacetime sinking, following the Titanic sinking in 1912, Norwegian report says that the locks of the bow door had failed due to the strains of the waves. 852 onboard the ship lost their lives.

I actually remember this personally. I was a young kid during this tragedy. Me, my sister and our parents woke up and saw revenue helicopters going back and forth over whether we lived. The event still haunts me.

the front vizor's lower locking attachment broke in the waves and because of it alloved the vizor to swing freely, the landing ramp behind the vizor had ramp open warning on the bridge but not on the vizor it self and as the ramp was not made water proof to begin she started taking in water fast.
On calmer seas she might had made it but this was in the dead of night in a heavy autumn storm when most passenger were still sleeping and the bridge crew had no means or time to realise that the ship was already lost when they first noticed that something was wrong.
also due to extreme list half of the rescue boats could no longer be deployed which further fueled the panic and confusion already on board the ship and even then most of the passengers had barely their clothes on.
Not sure if the rule was back then or if it came after because of it but these days all doors leading to car deck(s) are to be kept sealed during the voyage.

Video didn't mention the weather on that sinking night. It was typical autumn storm in the Baltic Sea. According to the final disaster report, the weather was rough, with a wind of 15 to 20 metres per second (29 to 39 kn; 34 to 45 mph), force 7-8 on the Beaufort scale and a significant wave height of 4 metres (13 t) compared with the highest measured significant wave height in the Baltic Sea of 7.7 metres (25.3 ft). Significant wave heigh is avarage of highest third of waves. And highest single wave can be double to that. So at sinking night There were single waves height of 8 metres. Air temperature was 8-10°C and Water 10°C. Ship sinked because it's front visor broke lose and dropped off and then the ship's bow door opened letting Water flood to car deck.

Yeah if you're wondering how the front visor detached of the ship, it was the storm and big waves which broke off the visor, but the animation in the video wasnt good enough to show the real waves so i guess thats why it confused you. And would've been easier if you two understood finnish.

Tho i think some things we should take with a strain of salt becouse in Sweden the goverment went out that the front of ship was the main problem before we even dident know What happend! Yes we found out that the front peace fell of But the ramp behind dident! And military divers went down to the ship and found a head sized hole in the ramp and a ship could not go down that fast with that small hole! Even Big sicentists and ship builders have said that the the estonia went down to fast! And both goverments of Sweden and Estonia and finland have actully been really secretive about this event and even going so far to wanna berry it bellow concrete!

989 on board, only 138 rescued, she was 15 years old. A lot of speculation have been made to why the bow door fell off, anything from natural causes to spies and suicide. Most likely is was just a freak accident. I'm Swedish so remember it very well.

The visor and ramp requirements were not met properly. Last year, a French company was sued. Bureau Veritas who declared the ship seaworthy. The trial was lost.

I've seen a vid of divers pulling out a body from the wreck. It's very blurry but you can see a decomposed woman's face up against some glass before the diver finds it and gets a jumpscare. She gets dragged out and there's only half of her and u can see bits of flesh floating everywhere like a dust trail. Really gritty.
