- We find another great van life spot to spend a few days in the little town of Alange, (Extremadura) in Spain. This is a fabulous place for living in a van, as we have the whole place to ourselves where we can stay safe, enjoy the lake and live the van life at a slower pace! Life is good and we're feeling relaxed and although the situation in Spain isn't great in regards to the pandemic, we're making the most of it and enjoying each and every moment.

That rubber part is a steering boot so don’t do it yourself unless you understand how it works as if you reset the steering incorrectly you’ll wear out your front tyres plus if the boot has a split in it you will fail your next MoT 👍
Ok.. Thanks so much Nick.. Yeah, we kinda thought it was beyond our skills tbh once we started googling it! Lol.. Not as simple as we thought.. We’ll get a professional to help👍
Yep, Nick is correct. It one of them annoying parts, where you think its just a rubber boot except you have to dismantle your steering linkage to fit it. Also splitting the one you have is a no no, even the type you can buy to wrap around and glue do not last anything like the sealed type. So get yourselves to a garage, Sad thing is boot is cheap, Garage will charge you prob around 100 to 150 euros. The Joys of travelling guys. Great Vlog

Hi Sarah and Nick, we have just got back from an absolutely epic Roadtrip from UK to Sardinia. No leccy hook up. Solar , we wild camped on the beaches, mountains, rocks, saw loads of beautiful sunsets and sunrises. Stayed in 2 Campsites as Italy government expected address of accommodation. Kept them happy but avoided people on the big huge Moby ferry to the Island from Genoa, shhhh slept in our Van downstairs, quarantined ourselves what better? Got our bikes out cycled around in Luxembourg also Switzerland, on return trip, good ol Crafter Van went up the Alps, absolutely beautiful !! Passed by Montreaux where they have a huge bronze commemorative statue of Freddy Mercury, (I'm sure fans don't realise this? ??
Anyway want to say seriously guys you are both fantastic and respect to you !! We lived in Spain for 15 years, we know how hot 50 dgs is ? mosquitos,
Processionary caterpillars,
Lakes, mountains etc... but never get tired of your informative Vlogs , keep it going guys xxx

if you have gaffer tape you could effect a temporary repair on the steering boot, until you can have the new boot fitted. You really have a knack of finding the most beautiful parking spots. All the best to you all.

That's the cv boot , got to pop the track rod end off so get a garage to do it, on rallies in a pinch I've packed the split one with some grease and wrapped a bin bag round it and duck taped both ends to get me to where I had to be on the stage. Not a long term solution through.
Not a cv boot, it's a steering gaiter.
Nick is the Digestive biscuit monster,lol! I love to watch your videos,I find you so uplifting and fun to immerse myself for a while in your lives with the dogs,I make myself a hot choccy and sit under my blanket with the cats and just enjoy. Steering gater it’s pretty easy to do . Put a mark on the nut and the edge to see it’s tightened to the same place and count the turns off from the track rod. Slide on the gater and do the reverse . In all fairness it only protects the grease , you could cut the replacement but fit it over the one in place and cabl e tie it up. Fantastic spot love places like that . Have fun see you soon xx

Knock the ball joint off the hub count the turns to get the track rod end off replace gaiter count turns to replace track rod works for me
Isn't the rubber boot a part of your steering rack? I would not recommend splitting and trying to glue together, it would never last. Not an urgent job but needs done ASAP, as you said dirt and debris will get in. It will be much easier on a ramp with the correct tools. Good luck to you both.

You really introduce Spain beyond the beaches very well. Whenever I travel to Spain, I'll try and visit some of these very nice and quiet places further inland. I didn't know that Spain has so many nice mountains and (artificial) lakes.

Made me laugh when i saw the rubber cv boots our Mazda needs them after MOT not failed on them but needs done sent for two split ones you glue them together my old man is having ago at doing them more than likely end up at garage xx for the boys stay safe
Did you hear about over 700 fires in California USA, it's a yearly thing but fires are increasing. Glad we moved from there over 2 years ago. We have had 2 hurricanes and rain for over 8 days in my state, so some sunshine would be so nice. So glad your drone is working again, now don't crash it, Ha ha ha

In a pinch I’ve seen people wrap the the broken rubber boot with a plastic bag and tape the ends to keep debris out till they can get it replaced.
Such a pretty area again.
That is a boot for the inner tie rod (part of you steering). You could tape the old one up as a temporary measure to keep the dirt out but to replace it you would need to remove the tie rod end so that you can slide it over the tie rod. Probably a job best left to a garage if you don’t have the tools. In the UK a torn one is definitely an MOT fail so guess it would also fail the ITV.

I was watching a channel the other day and this guy had a USB chargeable compact battery bug zapper that would work great for whenever you have mosquitoes, or flies in the van. Anyway it's a little late in the year for that maybe something to think about for next summer. The channel is called Wander Dano.
That's a steering rack gaiter. Not hard to change but you need a ball joint splitter. Don't attempt to cut and glue it, it won't last. About an hour's labour.
Two spanners will do the job and it should take about 10 minutes easy turn locking nut one quarter turn on the track rod end to unlock then you turn the long track rod that goes in to the boot self till it comes out of the track rod end ball joint then you slip off old the boot and slip on the new boat then you screw the road back into the track rod end ball joint and then when you get it far enough that you can turn the lock not 1/4 turn to tighten it back up the job is done but do advise having tracking chat afterwards

The split boots will usually split again but will buy you some time. Don't cut the new boot. Get to a garage soon . Love you guys

Hey guys, you should come to Peniscola, at this days its only 30 c at day time, a lot of good places to stay with Van and visit Peniscola Castle, national park, and rely wild ghost town.
And we with our mini van slowly go down to South

Easy job but if you don't have any tools you have no chance of doing it.
Gonna need some brute force splitting your track rod end.
It must of only just gone otherwise you would of failed your Mot test .
Get it done soonish but don't panic.

The rubber boot. Clean off any grease on boot area near split. Using super glue. Glue a ring each side of split together. Not the split itself. This will keep any muck from getting in. I used this method on my car and it lasted 3 years and 3 Mots. It just means the rest of the rubber rings have to stretch a bit further when steering. Doesnt effect steering. Cheers from old George ps it does work and safe.
The split rubbers are super glued but the design clips together not just butted up seam like a cut boot....but yes the geometry needs to be correct when complete.... 😊

Short term fix, wrap 3or4 times with plastic then tape connection, zip tie ends will keep dirt out for a couple days worked on Alaska highway for a week.😊

That is one of the steering rack boots, if enough crap gets in the rack you will need a new one or worse it will seize and you will have no steering. To change it with the right tools is about 40 mins work but you should then have the tracking checked. Wish I could come out there and change it for you. Love you two and love your doggies more.

Hi guys, what a fantastic location, living the dream for sure. Great climb up to the castle, I bet the calves burned a bit but what a view. Re the gaiter, I wouldn't cut the new one to be honest, just have it fitted but in the meantime you could try to carefully tape the damaged one with duct tape (not to tight) just to help keep the dust and grit out. It's a very temporary fix but is better than nothing, even tape a plastic bag over the torn gaiter would work short term.

Nearly caught up on all your travels, introduced you to the hubby, so we can learn together🤓. So glad you are both out and about again enjoying good weather and time in nature. The drone pictures near the last look like a lovely post card! I'm happy that you are not locked into one spot, but heard that Spain is having a bit of a virus increase. The hike up the hill was well worth it! Sarah needs to get in shape, though! HA Be safe!
