The Hollies wrote many beautiful songs. They were brilliant.

This came out in 1969. You can't imagine how much this song meant to our soldiers in the Vietnam War watching their friends lose their lives at such a young age. Lead singer is Allan Clarke. He's still alive! The instrument is a harmonica. *THE AIR THAT I BREATHE* should be next! 😎
Love this group. The Hollies are a British pop rock group formed in 1962 & known for their great harmonies. They were a Merseybeat-type music group. They had so many great songs such as "Bus Stop", "Stop Stop Stop", "On A Carousel", "Carrie Anne", "Just One Look", "Here I Go Again", "Look Through Any Window", "King Midas In Reverse", "Jennifer Eccles", "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" & "The Air That I Breathe". "Graham Nash" was originally in this group & left in 1968 to form "Crosby, Stills & Nash".
Was from Manchester not Liverpool, so wasn't part of the Mersey beat scene. ✌️

The title came from the motto for Boys Town, a community formed in 1917 by a Catholic priest named Father Edward Flanagan. Located in Omaha, Nebraska, it was a place where troubled or homeless boys could come for help. In 1941, Father Flanagan was looking at a magazine called The Messenger when he came across a drawing of a boy carrying a younger boy on his back, with the caption, "He ain't heavy Mr., he's my brother." Father Flanagan thought the image and phrase captured the spirit of Boys Town, so he got permission and commissioned a statue of the drawing with the inscription, "He ain't heavy Father, he's my brother." The statue and phrase became the logo for Boys Town.

With what's going on in the Ukraine right now, this song reminds me of how accommodating and wonderful the people in Poland are being. Taking in strangers and welcoming them into their homes and treating them like family. Brings tears to my eyes. Cheers to Poland!

Allan Clarke is singing this. The Hollies have a long list of great songs but this is an amazing song with great vocals all around. Takes your breath away. Man, I love those 1960's & 70's!!! That was a harmonica. I remember when this song came out. It will make you cry if your not careful. I still get chill-bumps when I hear it. We had such good music 🎵😂 back then and a great variety with some great song writers and musicians.
This was for the boys of Vietnam, 1968, 69, & America & the brotherhood everyone wanted them. A masterpiece of the true nature & soul of the meaning of us all here in this earth.

I think of my brother and HE AINT HEAVY, HES MY BROTHER.3 Yrs older.When we were kids I followed him like a puppy. I Still hug and kiss him each time .I lost 3 older brothers, Jimi and his paternal twin, and the oldest boy of family Benito Jr..my brother Jose and I are Extremely tight.He ain't HEAVY.. Next to The Hollies version, (don't laugh) I think the Osmond Brothers do a kick butt version. Their vocal harmony talent is solid talent.

This is what we had growing up, those of us from the boomer generation. We were IN LOVE with our music. I was glued to the radio from a young age, when not at school.
This song came out in 1969. It was written by Bobby Scott and Bobby Russell who wrote the lyrics on his deathbed as he was dying of cancer. It was first recorded by Kelly Gordon on his album "Defunked". That is the version Tony Hicks of the Hollies first heard in my office. Elton John played piano on the recording. Graham Nash was in the original lineup of the group who come from Manchester. There have been about 150 cover versions of the song.
I saw The Hollies live, twice. Locked away in my memory as some of my favourite concerts.
The two harmonica solos are a killer; especially in this live version.
Everyone should hear this song. It’s what the world needs right now ! So many mixed up people that we can help, to help themselves. Instead of anti depression medicine, if you have just ONE person who cares is worth it’s weight in gold.

The story I heard at the time was, that a Vietnam Vet was carrying another who could´nt obtain a wheelchair, he was asked if it was to heavy for him, his answer was the title of the song...Peace.

Real story as reflected in Forrest Gump. Author read in newspaper re white soldier carrying wounded black soldier twice his weight during Vietnam war. Title was his reply to the question "ain't he heavy".

The Hollies are one of the best groups of the 60s. The 2011 documentary "Look Through Any Window" can be seen on Amazon and is fantastic! React to some of their early songs when Graham Nash was still with them.

I love this song so so much. After me Daddy died in August it became really special for me and my brother. That he doesn’t walk the road of grief alone. The Hollies are special to us as my Dad’s favorite song to play and sing the band with my Uncles, was Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress. He loved them.
It was out in late 60's early 70's ... have you heard the version this group The Hollies did with a bunch of musicians The Justice Collective for the families of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster? Just like they did With USA for Africa We Are the World.. I'm not usually one for remakes but they did a PHENOMENAL job. Paul McCartney was a part of it with other artists who did a beautiful job. The video almost brought me to my knees.
This song has always reminded me of my brother who was mentally and physically handicap but he was my brother and we were very close. He died in 1995. As long as there was breath in my body I would have taken care of. He was definitely not a burden. He was my and still is my brother.
Powerful message that still inspires
The title of this song goes all the way back to an 1884 book called The Parables of Jesus. Over the years many other people have used this song title. Fr. Flanagan used this title in promoting Boys Town. The lyrics are beautiful and have great meaning. Especially in this day and age.
In 1918, Fr Flanagan saw one boy carrying his crippled brother on his back. When he asked if the boy was heavy, the older one replied: “He ain’t heavy; he’s my brother, Father.”
This inspired Fr Flanagan to adopt the response as a slogan for Boys Town, and it, in turn inspired the famous song, which became a hit for the Hollies in 1969.

Alan Clark is one of the best male vocalists to ever grace this planet and Tony is the guitar player and it gets no better than the Hollies. This was 69 I do believe but they have a multitude of number 1 hits. They were inducted into the R and R hall of fame 10 year ago. Well Deserved. It's the harmonica. Lol!

How in the wild wild world of sports did you come across this song being that you're so young and I was in the 8th or 9th grade when this was heavily played on the radio? I'm 66 yrs old, 67 next month April a Rock and Metal musician and in school it was sad whenever a classmate was heard crying during school hours...someone in they're family died in Vietnam. This Band was great from the era of the British Invasion of Rock n Roll!...Rock n Roll was the best side affect of any troubled times! Can you believe the music industry now? They banned Rock n Roll you don't hear it anymore...they have been trying for years to shut it down since Elvis Presley! Thanks for your reaction and 'there's plenty more where that came from'! Try "Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum, Crystal Blue Persuasion by Tommy James and the Shondells. Miss those days. Hollies (pron. like Christmas Holly.) BTW, that was a harmonica.

When I used to mess up, which was quite a lot, my brother would always bail me out. My other brothers and sister would get upset with him and tell him he should stop helping me. He would just say "he ain't heavy, he's my brother". I miss him so much.
