Those Wild Wyndhams sounds so interesting!! Especially if you’ve had any experience reading historical romance. Learning all about the real Ton would be so eye-opening.
Hi Steve, Past Times was a UK high street shop which sold history based items jewellery, ornaments and books. Unfortunately it ceased trading a few years ago.
I have In Search Of Scotland and In Search Of England, what a bizarre chap HV Morton was! I would have revelled in his eccentricities if I didn’t find out he was a reluctant Hitler sympathizer (“I am appalled to find out how many of Hitler’s theories appeal to me.”)
You complaining about he sirens and losing your thought process because of this, reminds me of an essay by old Schopenhauer in which he does the same about the sound of the whips from the carriages in the streets. Apparently that was one of the main reasons why that later the first animal protection agency in Germany managed to forbid the whipping horses inside the cities.
I just finished Master and Commander. By far the worst novel I have read all year. What a hot mess of nautical jargon and indecipherable battle descriptions. Sorry I had to vent.
Ruskin is pure joy! He and Sir Philip are impossible to beat
I love your brattle reviews!
Excellent video!
Adore H V Morton, Steve! Had to downsize a few years ago and recycled most of mine just kept the British ones…..REGRET, REGRET, REGRET!!

I got a copy of Fifty Years at a local library sale a month ago. A great book about books.
Those Wild Wyndhams is on my TBR. Glad to hear that it’s good.
50 sirens a day!
Welcome to Boston.
Where do you live?
Gotta be Southie.
Clifton Fadiman was responsible for encouraging me to read classics. His Lifetime Reading Plan is always at my fingertips.
Good Lord, the Lifetime Reading Plan! I sold SO many copies of that book!

Hi, what do you think about Shelby Foote three volume history on the civil war?
For me, Morton’s book isn’t a patch on Georgina Masson’s Companion Guide to Rome
I’d have to disagree that there *are in fact, 50 siren worthy emergencies every day. Trust me on this. 😂
Do u happen to have a copy of In This House of Brede? Thank you

Where is the very beautiful Freida? I can’t see her :(
Maybe the reason you can not find books is because the mass of them has created a liber singularity and is sucking books into it.

Your venting is totally welcome - but your assessment of the book is completely wrong. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you revisit it some day!
