Pokemon Colors Are Ridiculous

- The Pokedex keeps track of all sorts of data about each Pokemon, including their height, weight, shape, and color. Today we're gonna take a look at Pokemon colors, because there are a lot of weird choices. Why is there no orange category in the Pokedex at all? Which Pokemon have changed colors over the years? Can Elias pronounce the word TIDIER correctly? All that and more today on MEPlaysGames.

One other note: It’s true that brown is a dark shade of orange, but that doesn’t fully explain why there’s no orange category. Pink is a lighter shade of red, but both of those colors are represented separately in the Pokedex. So even with that information in mind, it would make sense to have separate categories for orange and brown. In most cases they’re treated as two different colors, the same way red and pink are
Hey where is the human flag
5:11, well you know what they say, Violets are Blue
I'm ashamed to admit that I often forget about Dragalge, because it's actually a cool Pokemon, being 1 of 3 to be dragon/poison, though personally, I kinda wish Goodra could also be that type combination, too. Interestingly, it's the second dragon type to be based off of a seahorse -- the other being the arguably more well-known Kingdra -- this being because apparently, it is believed that seahorses eventually become dragons if they live long enough. Also, weirdly enough, both Pokemon have some poison aspects to them thanks to one of Seadra's abilities being poison point (Dragalge's connection goes without saying), meanwhile, Dragalge loses it's water type after evolving, meaning that both gain the dragon type upon reaching their final evolution
The audacity of the recording software to give Elias trouble. How dare.
Dragalge is so elegant yet slept on, I absolutely adore it. Shout out to it and its pre-evo Skrelp for being the only poison type Kalosian Pokemon
Snorlax got the pass.
I'm so glad the Pokedex got tiddier
im so glad the pokedex got tittier
Pop Quiz: What color is Dragalge?
A) Purple
B) Brown
C) Red
D) Blue
@timaeustanis359 well he actually has what could be argued as purple, red, and brown, so... Blue? My answer is D) Blue.

Bug is the coolest type Lokix, Golisopod, Scolipede, Scizor, Kleavor, Volcarona, Slither Wing, Genesect! Just to name a few
Burmy's forms are probably all the same color (it nonsensically being changed from gray to green aside) because Burmy remains Bug type regardless of its current cloak. Whereas Wormadam gains a new typing depending on the cloak and the assigned color reflects that

Bug is one of my favorite types, especially because I liked butterflies a lot as a kid.
I used a Dragalge in my first run of Pokémon Y, his name was Slinky and had a bad nature for a Dragalge.
this video reminds me of how Groudon raid hour went plenty of Arguing over whether Groudon is yellow or green. Also the bug type is absolutely amazing the bugs may not be strong but they are amazing in terms of there physical appearances they do need a buff though even if it is just making them do neutral damage to a few of the types that resist them.
as a wise man once said, "Dragalge is an overall horrible pokemon, but it has the perfect stat spread to terrorize women"
if bug types have no fans then i have died
Bug Types, my beloveds
8:45 I was caught off guard by that satsuma pronunciation 🤨
as a pokemon concept, i think dragalgae and skrelp are sick asf and get slept on WAY too much. i also have had Brian David Gilbert's perfect pokerap's pronunciation of "sssssKKKRRRRELP" living rent free in my head since i first watched it years ago
I wasn’t expecting an etymology lesson in my Pokemon video
everytime i play a pokemon game i almost always put a bug type on my team. in fact, i find it hard to not make HALF the roster bug types nowadays.
Haxourous’s Pokémon home art is way more green than it normally is.
Snorlax definitely used to be more of a black/olive grey in older media, and I liked that a lot better than the almost blue-green it's usually shown as nowadays.
huge rabbit hole but i found out that legally brown is considered a shade of orange forever ago.
also back in Pokemon stadium one could achieve other shades of mon with specific nicknames.
Happy Thanksgiving Matt and Elias!!
Dragalge is one of the few pokemon allowed in the horse used format, where it places in s tier on the viability rankings
I like bug types Because of Gen 5.
Bug Types definitely got some of the cleanest designs.
Ralts, Kirlia, and Gardevoir have always bothered me. While I they might have mostly white bodies, their green hair has always been what stands out to me most.
I absolutely love Bug types, and, to be honest, they're one of the biggest inspirations for me going into entomology (the study of bugs). Also, Durant is a really funny Pokémon competitively and it's my favorite Pokémon for that.
Snorlax is very clearly green. His shiny is blue
Dragalge is one of the very few pokémon that I have never caught in any playthrough.
Dragalge is such a fun Pokemon.
On my first playthrough of Y, I used it along with a Goodra. They pretty much covered the same bases but they were cool so I was happy.
Forretess is kinda broken and I for one adore it. Curse in genral is really good.
My favorite pokemon is Ninjask but I don't consider myself a bug pokemon guy. I just love cicadas irl. If I was in the pokemom universe and forced to be a type specialist, I'd wind up picking steel or fighting.
1:16 *why is Ash upside-down*
Is he trying to make more blood go through his head to make himself smarter? :P He was pretty stupid in the Unova season from what I've heard, so this could've helped him a bit. :)
7:10 That was the _smoothest_ transition ever.
he's recharging
9:09 Tamil mentioned, 10/10 video
yknow id love to see a video from you guys covering the pokemon body shapes. sandyghast, palossand, mimikyu and pyukumuku are all listed as pokemon with serpentine bodies. somehow.
I love bug types! I know Beedril and Scyther are terrible but I always try to find a way to make them work on my teams alongside Herracross and Forretress
Snorlax in Ruby and Sapphire has a shade of pink.
Go look at the sprite right now. The pink is extremely faint, but visible.
New upload so quick?!?!?!
Yeah we got two videos edited a couple weeks ago, so we've been holding on to this one for a while. The original plan was to post it in December, but we decided to move some stuff around.
@ that’s nice
Dragalge always feels like one of the more obscure Pokémon. It’s just so irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. It’s debut generation was very unremarkable, and I can’t really say much about its performance either.
As for bug types, can I really say I’m a fan of them if I only have an interest in a limited number of them? I dunno.
I LOVE Dragalge, one of my Top 10 Pokemon, even Top 5 maybe. Also, I am indifferent to Bug Types but they have my sympathies for their circumstances
Bug type might just be my favourite type.
Bug types are the best! A whole type of little guys!
dont mess with us bug type fans, theres so few of us youll never see us coming, also dragalge is awesome and i got a couple mighty ones in the pokemon go wild area event, pretty fun event
Well Orange you glad to see another video so fast?
2:58 VROOOMMMM XD
Dragalge is actually my favorite dragon type pokemon
I feel that Dragalge is a beautiful Pokemon, and isn’t appreciated for such as much as it should!
7:41 Japanese really doesn't have a word for orange, because historically they called it red. However, Japanese also doesn't have a word for pink and it was also called red for a long time, so if Pokémon has pink but not orange, it can't be a Japanese language reason. But, anyone telling you Japanese doesn't have a word for orange is being honest. They use a wasei word, which means it's not Japanese but is a recognized part of the Japanese language, like the words "appu" (app), Karendaa (Calendar), chokoratto (chocolate), Pan (italian for bread), rentogen (german for x-ray), etc etc
7:46 also as a quick correction, Katakana is also used for Japanese words, but it kind of looks like writing something in capital letters when used that way. So, sound effects, key words, etc etc all use katakata :)
Japanese sometimes uses "momoiro" (peach color) for light shades of pink, similar to the color of peaches. The English loan word usually refers to a more intense shade of pink
Matt is gonna open a can of whooper ass
Dude Snorlax and Typhlosion are GREEN
I am a lover of both Bug Types and Dragalgae
Not talking about BRONZOR BEING GREEN WHEN IT'S CLEARLY BLUE?????
Elias Southern form is a must 😍
Snorlax is absolutely forest green, where are y’all seeing blue?
also i am a bug type fan. and a dragalgae fan SDGHJDS
The drilling forms are listed as white because the dex can’t change color listing between the genders so it picks the common color. This common color is their white accent
Perhaps true in the past, but since gen 7 Meowstic got change from white in all forms to white for the female and blue for the male and likewise Oinkologne also has different colors for the different genders, granted those 2 cases have other non-esthetic differences between genders so maybe that makes the separate color classifications easier from a coding point of view or something
@ fair
I do like a using a bug type from time to time, I used a Heracross when I played Silver for the first time and she was a powerhouse, although I didn't use a bug type on my team until Gen 7 and I used a Vikavolt on my first playthrough
P.s. Dragalge is underrated, and it happens to be the only new poison type introduced in Gen 6
We need a Snow Burmy/Wormadam!
My favorite pokemon is a bug type, Illumise!
I think you misunderstood what people meant when they said Japanese doesn't have a word for orange or doesn't see it as a color. In all languages we have colors and shades, where shades are more defined and tend to fit into a color or describe something between colors. Cyan, chartreuse, scarlet and ivory are all shades yet you wouldn't correct someone if they said they were blue, green, red and white instead.
Other languages categorize their colors differently, Italians sees azure as a different color from blue, while the ancient Greeks used 1 word to describe blue and green. To the Japanese orange might just describe that specific shade between yellow, red and brown, just like teal straddles the border of green and blue to English speakers.
They can differentiate these colors and know what they look like, just like we can see difference between the yellow of butter, cheddar and dandelions. And still we all call these just yellow.
That's why there likely isn't an orange category, for the same reason English devs wouldn't add an azure color, because to them it isn't a color, but a shade.
i am a big fan of bug types they always are cool but never perform well except for a few
Of course Roaring Moon is green, it’s a bug type
I would like dragalgie a lot more if it was bug type
I’ll have a shiny dragalgae in pokemon go once I evolve this skrelp.
Bug is my favorite type they are just silly guys yall dont get em like i do
love dragalge such a cool fella btw
0:05 What showdown mode is that?
Was one of the Pokémon HOME mobile devs colorblind?
Dragalge is a Poison and dragon type
Was this because I mentioned it or was this already in production?
Also what even is a Dragalge?
Dragalge is blue because it's sides and face are purple lol
I ADORE Dragalgie! How did you know?
I don't know how to spell dragalge
Snorlax raceswapped🤣🤣
I see Green .
0:54
I personally think Roaring Moon should be brown
I like Bug Types
bug types are great.
7:41... that's the word for orange the fruit. It may not apply for the color the same way it does in english.
That word is used for the color and the fruit the same way it is in English
@@MEPlaysGames I've only ever seen it used for the fruit myself. Though it makes sense it could be used for both. Maybe its just used for the color alot less to the point I've never seen it used for that.
So then does that make Clogsire blue too? or is it Brown?
Also they should definably have Orange. It's Lincoln Loud's favorite color.
I don't think GF gives a damn about a cartoon character's favorite color
I love bug pokemon, reminds me of bugsnax
Well violet IS a shade of blue
I'm a bug type fan, still couldn't give less of a shit about burmy though.
Thumbs up for bug types
Wooper, not whupper.
So back in September I did a run of Leaf Green I called a pridelocke (why I did a run like that in September? Every month is pride month when you’re as gay as I am) where I had to have a Pokémon for each colour of the rainbow and for an added bit of absurdity I went off of their official Pokédex colours (minus orange of course. That one was up to me) I knew Pokédex colours were ridiculous going in but I was still blindsided by a lot of things. Anyway here was the final team:
Porygon2 for red
Dragonite for orange
Ampharos for yellow (was originally going to be Typhlosion but oh god Gen 3 move pools are terrible)
Cacturne for green
Swampert for blue
Gengar for purple
As for Dragalge the only time I used one was in a run to see if Drake could be come champion in Alpha Sapphire using his ORAS rematch team. He could but I had updated the rule set since then so I’m going to have to do the run again with the updated rule set. I do remember Dragalge being pretty good
Given the opportunity, what Pokemon would you eat?
gardevoir

Haxorus is mustard colored
Roaring Moon, according to Bulbapedia, is BLUE! ROARING MOON IS BLUE!! The Arzeus-damned official color is BLUE!!!
If you know what I am referencing, cool.
Also, you are not the first poketuber I have watched to call Roaring Moon “green” tbh…
Elias was making a joke, but it genuinely was listed as green in Pokemon Home at one point
Jynx is in the black color group beta smoochum would have been there.
Ether way good luck and be safe and have a great day
Jynx is in the red category, not black
Isn’t haxorous yellow lol
Someone please tell me how Dialga is white.
me when I am me and I play games?!??
Shiny roaring moon is green
Shiny coloring has nothing to do with how Pokemon are classified in the Pokedex
@MEPlaysGames I figured but I thought it was worth a try
