I like your seat-post chopping without using a vice - it's not the most practical way to go about it, but it's realistic for many people and shows that it still can be done with very limited tools. One thing I see missed a lot which was only kind of mentioned, is that when you're cutting a post (especially an aluminium post) with a pipe cutter, no matter how smooth it looks you typically still need the file as the metal around the cut will be a very slightly larger diameter than the rest of the post, which then needs filing down for a proper fit.

In reality you only need basic tools, which most people can get access to. Yes, maybe that needed highlighting more. Cleaning off the cut is essential before putting the seatpost back into the frame.
