How often do you water and what do you fertilize it with? Mines are in 5 gallon buckets and the leaves don’t get big enough to make laulau they die when they reach about the size of my palm
So in India we eat the leafs also. Can you speak more about what kind of growing conditions it need. I am in zone7b and trying to figure out what’s the best way to do this
Came to check out your site and saw the taro, so I had to stop to comment. I live in Minnesota, I grow them in pots with soil but this year I put them in a large metal container used for water for cattle. I added some soil but mostly peat moss and water to turn it into a bog, about a month ago and they are growing really fast. The roots are spreading. Of course, winters here are very cold so I will pot some in soil again to over winter them and eat the rest.
In the islands they wrap taro leaves in the banana leaf with coconut cream, and roast the root, and also cook the root in coconut cream. A staple food eaten daily in the pacific.
I want to grow Taro just fir the leaves lol ..in my culture we mostly use the leaves for stews..sooo good!!
What do they taste like.. are they similar to anything that we would recognize?
@@Karen-ur6mm when cooked or steamed it’s similar to spinache.
Very good taro planting ,good luck ,..greetings from Indonesia

I am asking my Grandma about the coconut milk and leaf! She has never mentioned that to me, I have to try it! Thank you :D
Can you please tell how many months after did you harvested?
I can’t remember. This was a few years ago.
@@prepared2thrive101 Thank you for your reply☺

Tarop can be harvested as late as 15 months if wanted but that was too early for sure u need to mold the roots aswell u will get bigger cormels
Thanks
Thanks for share, P2T. Great video.
Yessir. 👍🏻🤩👍🏻
I have a massive Taro growing in my backyard as well in a container
👍🏻😎👍🏻
I understand that tara roots don't grow well (larger) in containers. Lots of leaves. That you can cook.
👊
Where are the taros?
I think you harvested your taro too early. Taro is usually harvested at around 7 months...
Good to know. Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
I think people always want to pull the bulbs because it's fun. But usually you take them out when they look brown and dry.
In india we make a tasty recipe with the leaves
Yum. I could go for Indian food right now. 👍🏻👍🏻
more water and you'll get the taro I guess. dry and acidic soil doesn't help. they are great food to eat, root, stem and leaves.
Where can I get a starter?
Buy some taro & plant it in the ground. Now that the snow is starting to melt I’m about to plant potatoes too.
@@prepared2thrive101 what kind of taro do you buy and where?
Yong Shodeen , I bought it at an organic grocery store.
@@prepared2thrive101 Did you buy a root?
Yong Shodeen yes
You're such kind person.. most foreigners throw away taro and whenever i say "we indians eat it" they make fun of it.. thank you
They have no idea the treasure they are throwing away
1080p! ?
Yeah I guess.
taro leaves are edible when they are cooked
👊
The whole plant is edible
I appreciate her informative content however you kept interrupting her.
Appreciate the valuable feedback
you harvested too soon should have left it for like 6-7 mos. cut-off babies from mother too.
Patra
this guys talking should be helping out instead just filming smh 😂
😂
In bangladesh the leaves, stalk and bulb is eaten.
👍🏻🤩👍🏻
My dog ate some of my bulbs while I was harvesting them.
