Wasn’t the area around Russia supposed to be part of the highest detail area? This map is very expensive and to release at almost 80 dollars Canadian with so much of the map unfinished really doesn’t sit well. I wanted it for rotor flight and I’m loving the views I see from high altitude but not the weeds. Knowing there are devs involved with this that also worked on the South Atlantic map makes me very cautious as I was very unimpressed with it at launch as well. Thanks for the video
I think the "distance" issue here is the same thing than can be expected on the green map everyone is clamoring for - Vietnam. To effectively cover the SEA, provide the iconic bases from Thailand to Tonkin and Haiphong to the Mekong Delta, gonna be a lot of very sparse terrain, with some interesting topography. I suspect the SEA would need to be nearly half again the size of the Kola. IIRC, RP6 missions from RTAF involved distances anywhere from 250-400+ miles one way! DaNang was well over 350 miles from Hanoi! The SEA is a not gonna be a 9 minute mission from Tel Aviv to El Arish.
ORBX : it's not finished, most expensive map in DCS though, and 140Gb. ED : trailer that shows how gorgeous the map is Players : Wow that's not worth it for now, it's nowhere near finished.
Hey Spino, There’s a couple road airbases. There’s the one in Finland and another in Sweden. I can’t remember the name of it but it’s south of the two airports in the Finland area. Just a FYI…
I find it a tad to early to release, but I don´t rate it as being bad. You can add FARPS Yourself on the map. I have placed "Hidden" FARPS close to the Russian/ Finnish border. I have not tried it yet, but maybe You can even add a hidden FARP on a normal road and then use the AV-8B from there - just an idea !
That may have been the intent all along, we have to remember that DCS is a sandbox sim, and while many of the road bases don't exist on the map, we have everything we need to create our own!
Depends on what you want it for. If you want to play REDFOR ops from the Russian bases, the experience at the bases may be a little bland. If you want it for BLUEFOR carrier ops then it's completely fine. For land-based BLUEFOR, the situation is a bit different since most of the blue airfields are outside of the high detail area. Until that expands, that experience will be bland right now too - the bases look good but the surrounding terrain not so much.
If you can anticipate wanting it, get it with the EA discount, and take into account it isnt where it needs to be *yet. It will eventually be an amazing map, very quickly had buyer's remorse from South Atlantic. I can't see that with Kola.

For the most part it is highly detailed. They just went skimpy on the airbases for some reason.

I would agree with that.

The map is gorgeous. Best money I've ever spent on a terrain for DCS
@@NoBrainSilent
@@sundog8775 It's great to hear you found value in the money you spent !
@@NoBrainSilent It is pretty gorgeous, much better than S. Atlantic and it ain't done. I bought it and don't regret it.

I'll wait until it's done before I buy. Not buying anymore maps until Vietnam or Korea
In your Opinion is it worth getting now? or wait a little bit?

They need to pick some region with greater diversity of nature. Example: the western Balkans
