one suggestion/hint ::: if you trace the "good" T-shirt on a big paper you can use that paper pattern over an over again. Much faster to repeat on to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th t-shirt. And you can save this pattern for later use.
Awww yissss!!! Congratulations!!! It is sooooo satisfying to realize your clothes are too big! Lol I'm wearing a skirt for the first time ever since I bought it ~3 years ago, because even though I was overweight then, I knew someday I would be this small to medium size again!
Monique Castillo and BadFlash can y’all like leave? She never asked for your opinion she said she lost weight and is proud of that. And if you have something rude to say just.. ugh leave
Love this! I have been loving using my favorite clothes as patterns for new copies. I'm sure you're doing this, but it might be important to mention that you always want to back stitch whenever you are starting or ending a seam. That ensures that the seam doesn't open up.
always!!! yes, sometimes I feel bad saying the same stuff over and over again but you're right. So many people haven't seen my other videos and won't know that. Thanks!
This tutorial came at just the right time and worked perfectly! I was overthinking the process, and this helped simplify and speed it up. Thank you for this!
I LOVE your videos!! I’m a “self taught” sewer(not seamstress by any stretch) but watching your videos gives me the confidence to try it out. You have made some REALLY adorable changes to really plain clothes. I swear it’s so motivating. Thanks & I hope you keep posting:)
🤣🤣🤣💗💗💗 You are a Saint! I waited anxiously for a month to get a a cute Snoopy American Red Cross T-shirt, free with my blood donation. They only had large left, and I was so upset!!So I googled how to make big T-shirts cute here on TH-cam and there you were! 🙏🙏🙏
Orly! I bought a men’s XL R&R t-shirt over the weekend. I looked up this tutorial and resized it this morning. It works! I am a (non-sewer) sewing machine owner. I was so nervous and shocked at the result. Thank you :) I love it and I love your videos ❤
The way you see the sleeve onto the shirt first before doing the side seem is a different way of doing it but it probably works really well and takes out the sewing in a circle part out . Love it and totally doing it
Really hard to see what your doing with the sleeve at 3:50 in video. Everything is black and I wish you could have taken just 10 seconds to clearly show what part of the sleeve you are cutting. Otherwise very cute video and very inspiring!
Ty so much for helping me learn to make HUGE tshirts we love fit great and easy sewing tricks...you are so awesome and love your excitement and energy with ALL your following fans ..we just love you!!
Amy Dillard: my daughter and her friends used the really big shirts for sleep shirts, and could run around house till bedtime, and early mornings and feel ok/covered up.
Oh my goodness, I have so many shirts I need to do this with! I've altered a skirt before, but that was to make it bigger instead of smaller, so I'm excited to try to opposite with a shirt! Thank you!
This is exactly what I have been needing! I have so many shirts that fit terribly! One question: How would you deal with the bottom seam if you shorten it? Thanks for this! Practical! Doable! Easy!
Omg I know I'm really late but I love it my son is always buying tshirts that he doesn't like and give them to me he's a 2x and I'm a large so I really needed this thank you sooooo much
Great video. I like how you went slowly & explained the sleeves, making sure you rounded the shirt under the arm, & we were able to watch it, instead of just explaining it. My suggestion would be to get a heavy paper bag such as the ones you get at a boutique. & tracing the good shirt onto the paper. Get a large gallon zipper bag & label it with which good shirt you used, along with the size in case you’ve gained weight. In that case you need to find another “good shirt” in a larger size 😊
Thank you for this awesome and energtic tutorial. My daughter volunteered me to fix her friends over sized shirts she picked up at the thrift shop. So this tutorial was just what I needed. Thanks
Since I didn’t have a fabric marker I used chalk instead. 👍 Worked like a charm! Thanks for the tutorial! I had a Halloween 4 shirt that I absolutely loved, but an XL was just way too big! Now I can wear it! 🎃
This was fabulous, I have a t-shirt I need to resize, it has no shape at all! The only thing is that I couldn’t see how you did the sleeves! So making that clearer would be mush better :-) Loved the video and have just find you as I’m altering a couple of pieces and starting to make my own clothes :-)
Loved the video! It was easy to follow and you are pretty cool! I did screw up once but It was ok. After tracing the good shirt, I starting cutting without allowing for the seam allowance. Luckily it still worked out.
This is a great video! I’m really glad you used a graphic tee. I have many and there’s so many shirts I love! I don’t want to get rid of them after I lose weight. Thank you 🌸
My technique is similar but I turn them both inside out. Put the flatted fitted on over the flatted new one, then draw the outline. The main difference I do is sew up the sides, including under the arms. Sure the shoulder seam ends up too low ‘cause it was not redone, but it saves so much time and I get nearly the same result. Just my thoughts.
this is soo good. I had a shirt from 3 years ago when I was in Cambodia that was away too big. Now it fits perfectly, except for the length. If I want to make it shorter (it looks like a dress now) how do I do that? Just cut it and sew it simple like the rest or can I keep the original hem in some way?
Hi im a new subscriber. Since i found your channel, i just kept watching LOL. i love your channel so much... thank you for sharing what your skills, its golden! I am learning a lot from you. More power to you and your channel.
Thanks you for this. I have nearly the same issue. Mine was bought online. so I ordered a 2X because you know over seas sizes are really tiny. Well it came to me in AMERICAN size. Yeah! Actual 2X. YIKES! so happy you're tutorial came up cause now I'm shrinking my cool tee to a medium.
Oh my goodness, I just found your channel and have never been more excited for a new follow! Your content is exactly what I was looking for and your personality makes me want to be your bff lol can't wait to see more!
Woo hooo! I have been looking for a good tutorial for doing this. Concert/theater T-shirts are always too big and now I can wear all the shirts that are hanging up in my closet because they look hideous on me. Thank you thank you thank you!
I love this vid! This is my life!!! Or should I say "it's my life", since I have a big pile of giant vintage Bon Jovi t-shirts to alter so I can finally wear them. Haha, ba-dum-tsss... But seriously, thank you so much for this!
Orly, Orly, Orly, I found your video just in time. I have an idea for a tee shirt design so, I thought I would pull out my bag of new white tee shirts. My idea is to tie dye and embellish them. Well to my surprise the tee shirts are XXXXXL. I did buy them knowing the size but, I forgot and I have changed my idea for them. These shirts are 50" wide from sleeve end to sleeve end and 36" long from neck back to hem, that's a lot of fabric. I need my shirts to be large and x large finished sizes. When I found this video and watched it I did my happy dance, then when I realized it was you I did an extra turn. I knew I was in good hands. TFS. I watched you on Home And Family, loved your DIY projects. You saved the day for me.
I also have a 3 XL The Doors shirt and I was looking for the video how to make it smaller and then I stepped by yours with also having The Doors t shirt hahaha. But I am still not sure, if I would leave it and wear it like a big tee with biker shorts.
this is great i just really wish you did this different colored shirts its too dark to see any seams or anything. Im sure the intermediate ppl know what to look for but i just started sewing so i need all the help i can get
I loved the video but it was your enthusiasm at the end at your success that made me subscribe. Whenever I get something right, I do my happy dance just for fun lol. Keep up the good work. Grest camera work from hubby :-))
Orly, I LOVE your DIYs and more so LOVE your FANTASTIC personality !!! You are the best to watch on TH-cam! Love from France 🗼 (this is supposed to be like your Tee - a shrunk version of the Eiffel tower, ah ah)
I've been wanting to see a tutorial on this for a long time.... and you explain it so good.... I love you, n ur style, n ur cute lil spunky attitude. Keep making videos!!!!
THIS IS AMAZING!! I found a vintage tv show crew members tee i couldn't leave in the thrift store and lol it actually is a 3XL THIS VIDEO IS A LIFE SAVER
Thank you so much for this video, it couldn’t come at a better time. My husband ordered some amazing t-shirts and when he was cutting open the packaging, he cut through the side of one of the shirts. But luckily they were mondo too big so I can now take the shirts in (which really needs to be done) and I can remove the evidence of his blunder!! Win-win!! thanks
My husband passed away four years ago. I have kept all his favorite T-shirts (he loved wearing dorky ones, like Napoleon Dynamite or Captain America), but I wasn’t sure what to do with them. I’m not a fan of the t-shirt quilts or turning them into pillows. Now I’m totally going to resize them, so I can wear them in remembrance of him! 💙
Haven't watched the video all the way yet, I'm gonna watch it right before I do the shirt. My school gave out shirts and they only had mediums left and it's basically a dress on me (I'm quite small if you haven't noticed by that) so I looked up how to make it fit, I'm hoping this works. From the comments I've seen so far, I'm sure it'll go just fine
is there a specific place i can go to do this? so as long it doesn't cost too much, i just want to know if it can even be done by an actual tailor. i tried to go down the street to a local tailor to pretty much ask the same thing a little while back, which was to alter the width of the shirt or the body and some other specifics, but the tailor told me they can't do any of that..., despite there being so many videos online of people doing exactly what i want. I do not want to do it on my own as i simply do not want to go that path. i ended up returning the specific shirt i wanted altered at the time. i think i also contacted at least one other tailoring place but they couldn't give me a straightforward answer, because although i can reason with the part of the sleeve length not being lengthened directly, the part i don't believe i got a answer was on the body part, which would also indirectly affect sleeve length, which was depicted in this video. I'm afraid though if i try to contact another tailor, they may tell me the same thing that the other did, that it's not possible or we don't do that and no solution. it's unfortunate, because i have 2 other specific shirts i bought that look very nice and can't find any other replacement anywhere else, the only issue is that they are a little too wide, big in the body portion ( i noticed today when reading the tab that they are loose fit, so i was ok, that makes sense ) and the shirts are slightly too tall when compared to a regular fit gildan plain t shirt which i want shirts to fit identical to the gildan one, and the sleeves could be shortened slightly, though, that will depend on how it looks after modifying the body area and height first, as i wouldn't want to mess with that area without knowing. I would of course bring the gildan shirt as the reference model of what i want the shirt to fit like.
I have a huge problem with collars because I wear a bunch of men’s shirts so they’re always too big. Is there a way you can show how to shorten the collar to make the collar not so big?? Thanks for the tutorial I definitely will be doing this!!
My sister gave me a really cute t-shirt but it is really big. She forgets that I have lost a few pounds and that includes from my chest. LOL I have watched a few videos on how to make a t-shirt smaller but yours is the best and easiest by far. I do okay sewing so asked hubby for one of his old shirts to experiment on and he came through for me. Can't wait to get going on it. Thank you for sharing!!!
I bought an "oversized" tee on an online store and has my top favorite band printed on it. I was so excited until I received a 6 XL size shirt, when I am usually a size medim!!
I was just fixated with Jim Morrison on the front lol! Shame his life ended so tragically because he was a dream boat! 😍😍😍 Sorry got carried away with Jim - the idea is fantastic! I've lost weight so some of my larger tees can be made smaller - yay!
one suggestion/hint ::: if you trace the "good" T-shirt on a big paper you can use that paper pattern over an over again. Much faster to repeat on to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th t-shirt. And you can save this pattern for later use.
OH MY GOD. yes.
Thats a useful suggestion. And DIY designer ur not only talented but ur a beautiful happy positive soul. 😊❤👍 I luv ur videos
Great idea!
but... remember, people sometimes get chubby.
Brilliant idea!!..
Tqtq for sharing...💖💝
I subscribed! I lost weight now I don't have to throw away my fave shirts! Thank you!
Pipper Piper okay and .....
Awww yissss!!! Congratulations!!! It is sooooo satisfying to realize your clothes are too big! Lol
I'm wearing a skirt for the first time ever since I bought it ~3 years ago, because even though I was overweight then, I knew someday I would be this small to medium size again!

Cheryl Rajewski yes, it was difficult to see. Maybe a different coloured shirt would’ve made it more visible. But a good idea!
Ty so much for helping me learn to make HUGE tshirts we love fit great and easy sewing tricks...you are so awesome and love your excitement and energy with ALL your following fans ..we just love you!!
She actually starts working on the shirt at 2:05. You’re welcome.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
YAASSS! I have been waiting my whole life for this video! Thanks for the tutorial!
I'm doing it today!!! Thank you so much. I know, it's a little late, but now is the time.
Awesome tutorial!!! Thanks- I can redo some of my huge concert T's from the days when we wore large men's shirts for some unexplainable reason!
Amy Dillard: my daughter and her friends used the really big shirts for sleep shirts, and could run around house till bedtime, and early mornings and feel ok/covered up.

I am forever stealing the hubby’s tees, great diy for his shirts to make them mine.... heeee🤣
Thank you for this awesome and energtic tutorial. My daughter volunteered me to fix her friends over sized shirts she picked up at the thrift shop. So this tutorial was just what I needed. Thanks
Careful, or you will be doing all the girls' clothing alterations. And then have no time for own sewing.
Since I didn’t have a fabric marker I used chalk instead. 👍 Worked like a charm! Thanks for the tutorial! I had a Halloween 4 shirt that I absolutely loved, but an XL was just way too big! Now I can wear it! 🎃
One of the better videos for resizing. Thanks!

Best video EVER. Just what I was looking for. I never knew how to take in the shoulders on an t that was too big. Ty so much. You're also very fun. ❤
Your personality in this video is some of my favorite moments of you!!! 😘
This is a great video! I’m really glad you used a graphic tee. I have many and there’s so many shirts I love! I don’t want to get rid of them after I lose weight.
Thank you 🌸
Thank you! I did this on a band tshirt i thrifted that is way big and it worked! I can wear it out now. Thank you!!
Very clear, succinct and thorough explanations.
I am totally a jeans & tshirt gal, and am always on the hunt for vintage rock tshirts. Great video 😃

Lesley Dehaan, some shirt have that look on purpose, and I tend to prefer the shoulder seams being further down the arm. :)
That's nice i always like the men section tshirts but they are so huge for me.
Thank you

Just grabbed an oversized T hanging in my closet that was way too baggy ... and voila! Done! You are brilliant. This is so fast and easy.
Picture!!?
Hi, Thanks for the video. Any tips on sizing down the neck?
Hi im a new subscriber. Since i found your channel, i just kept watching LOL. i love your channel so much... thank you for sharing what your skills, its golden! I am learning a lot from you. More power to you and your channel.
Fabulous! Both you and the tutorial. Even if I didnt want to learn to alter a shirt (etc) I would still watch your channel!! :) Thank You!

I just tried it and it worked out! Thanks for making this video! The t-shirt world is now my oyster! (Cue maniacal laughter)

Funny & useful, my favorite aesthetics. Gracias.
So what white marker are you using ?? I can only find pencils ? I like the yellow Madam sew chalk fabric marker. Is this same thing ??
So dope, i have old Tshirts my tween wants to wear. Now she can. Thanks a bunch😎☮️❣️

I got a XL shirt firm Amazon because the reviews said it was tight, and it’s HUGE!!! THANK YOU!!!
Are you just using a regular straight stitch when sewing?
Orly, Orly, Orly, I found your video just in time. I have an idea for a tee shirt design so, I thought I would pull out my bag of new white tee shirts. My idea is to tie dye and embellish them. even I do it the same way...
I also have a 3 XL The Doors shirt and I was looking for the video how to make it smaller and then I stepped by yours with also having The Doors t shirt hahaha. But I am still not sure, if I would leave it and wear it like a big tee with biker shorts.

Same! I’ve backed up the hem-to-hem sleeve part 7 times and still don’t know what I’m supposed to trace
Love to see tutorials on really really oversized tshirts from the dollar tree. Thanks
Love the jean shorts where you got it ?
LOVE the energy!
I loved the video but it was your enthusiasm at the end at your success that made me subscribe. Whenever I get something right, I do my happy dance just for fun lol. Keep up the good work. Grest camera work from hubby :-))
Oh Wow that is creativity with design! Love those sporty ideas, this is leading me to my sewing machine!
Orly, I LOVE your DIYs and more so LOVE your FANTASTIC personality !!! You are the best to watch on TH-cam! Love from France 🗼 (this is supposed to be like your Tee - a shrunk version of the Eiffel tower, ah ah)
haha thank you so much!!
What white marker is that? I can't get any white marker to even show up on black fabric except chalk.
Excellentttt you’re so charismatic!!🤩
I subscribed after the first minute. Lol. Loving the vibe!
I've been wanting to see a tutorial on this for a long time.... and you explain it so good.... I love you, n ur style, n ur cute lil spunky attitude. Keep making videos!!!!
thank you!
You are so fun to watch. You have amazing ideas thank you.
That was so fast I was doing this while I’m high and some how my shirt is gone at this point
Your refreshing and fun, not to mention that you have the greatest hair ever!!!! Thanks for the upload.🤗❤️
Wow love this, so glad I met ya, now if I only had a sewing machine.

THIS IS AMAZING!! I found a vintage tv show crew members tee i couldn't leave in the thrift store and lol it actually is a 3XL THIS VIDEO IS A LIFE SAVER
And you are probably a sz 0-2.
Fantastic! I’m doing this! Thanks for the inspiration 😊
First video of yours I've ever watched, love LOVE it! You two are hysterical.
haha thanks mama
Just tried this for the first time, and it totally worked! Thank you!!! (Now off to cut up the rest of my husband's discarded t-shirts, haha!)
Candi Terry hahah hell yes. Raid that man’s closet!!
Win-win!! thanks
oh good!! love that.
You should've used a lighter color shirt because it's pretty difficult seeing wha you're doing.
I know, I noticed that after. Sorry about that
The DIY Designer it was a good video overall tho!
It doesn't look dope or sick. It looks great! Good job.
DO you think you could do this with a color tshirt? when you sew the sleeves back is it inside out? I didnt understand... sorry beginner
I'm sorry... a color t-shirt? what do you mean?
Like I couldn’t really see. How you see the seam of the arms
I ADORE YOU! New lifelong fan here ❤️❤️❤️❤️
My husband passed away four years ago. 💙

Fantastic, I have so many sport give away shirts that for some reason it’s always a men’s XXL , thank you so much 😊
Awesome tutorial. Love your spirit. Thank you!
Does this method work for sweaters?
is there a specific place i can go to do this? so as long it doesn't cost too much, i just want to know if it can even be done by an actual tailor. i tried to go down the street to a local tailor to pretty much ask the same thing a little while back, which was to alter the width of the shirt or the body and some other specifics, but the tailor told me they can't do any of that..., despite there being so many videos online of people doing exactly what i want. Omg you showed me in a way i understood it! I love it!!! Please tell me how to make a jumper for a toddler from a x2 mens shirt.
I made little baby jogger pants from an old t-shirt. That video is on my channel, you just need to scroll a bit
Where did you get your sewing machine
I can always count on you Orly. Much Love!
Thanks Carol!!! cant tell you how much I appreciate the support!
Can you do the same type alteration using lighter colored shirts? It’s so hard to see black on black
Awesome! I needed this video!!! I have a thrifted STAR WARS tee that I definitely did not want to part with!
I have a huge problem with collars because I wear a bunch of men’s shirts so they’re always too big. Is there a way you can show how to shorten the collar to make the collar not so big?? Thanks for the tutorial I definitely will be doing this!!
Got a Marley shirt I’m dying to do! Thanks for this tutorial.🤙🏽❤️
She is so happy 👍
My sister gave me a really cute t-shirt but it is really big. She forgets that I have lost a few pounds and that includes from my chest. LOL I have watched a few videos on how to make a t-shirt smaller but yours is the best and easiest by far.
