My mom & dad got married during the depression. In their minds the depression never ended.
I remember my mom hanging clothes outside on the clothes line in freezing weather. When she sent me to bring the clothes in, the towels were frozen stiff & I had to stack them in my arms. I expressed my frustration to her. "Why, why do you do this? We have a clothes dryer!!"
Part times made hard people, and they were prepared, no matter what

Laugh out loud funny that hits kind of close to home. I was the one who got sent off to college and came back with learning but no sense. Also-the Sam Hill reference…my mom used that a lot. Good memories.
The "Sam Hill" is straight from my papaw Coys mouth, I can see him sayin' it now.
He sounds like my oldest brother. I think a better prankster and storyteller (of the untrue variety) has ever lived. I have always been nieve and with him 74 and me 67 he gets me still.

Sincere condolences to Scott's family and his friends like you JD.
Many months ago you did a story that I think was about your grandpa Coy and his memory being of things just yesterday. What sounded like he may have had that evil thing called dementia.
I shared that my brother had it and how heartbreaking it was to see him like that and being his only sister. He was a JD too! He departed this life to be with Jesus on April 29th and has dementia no more!
Dare say that the end of April was rough on quite a few of us.
Thank you so much for sharing that and God bless you and your brother soul dementia is such a thief in this world stealing all that is good. The rest assured they are restored in the arms of our Lord and yesterday is reborn.
Yes it is something waking up thanking Jesus for keeping you safe during the night and for helping you through the day!!

There was a time when people around here thought an education was wasted on a girl. After the 8th Grade, most of my classmates didn't go on to High School. Yes, I have known people who thought they were smarter than their parents, teachers, and many other people (my son was one of them). My mother always said I was, "Puttin on Airs" (while I was attending High School). However, Mom often had a milk churn loaded, ready, and waiting for me after school (while she still kept a cow). I worked as my parents taught and told me to do. They were not interested in trying new ways, unless they read about them. Things changed a lot after we moved to California and Washington State. They didn't go back to the old ways after they moved back to Kentucky.
