My great grandmother lived her whole life without a bathroom, just an outhouse. My granddaddy built most of the homes my mom was raised in, just old tarpaper shacks. I love to see the old homes being renovated. I just think of the stories they could tell...the pain, the laughter, and the tears they have witnessed. Thank you for this, Donnie. May God bless you.🙏❤️
That’s precious I can’t imagine the stories those walls could tell ! My uncle never had plumbing either he was still pumping at the well at 92 ! He was precious ❤ I love to see old homesteads saved and spared from change that society seems to call better There wasn’t anything wrong with what we had growing up 😊
Hey Donnie. My grandmother on my father's side never had her driver's license. She was born in 1913 the youngest of 13. Her and my grandfather were married almost 74 years when he passed away. He was born in 1910 and was mechanic in his early years and a woodsmith in his later years. I have several pieces of furniture that he built that I will never get rid of. Thank you so much for sharing these stories. It brings back memories of a simpler time and way of life. GOD bless you and your family.
That's so awesome my friend. Thanks so much for sharing your memories with us. God bless you. These people were skilled. Thanks for sharing. Your very welcome.
When I see those old log houses, I think of the ordeal they had stacking those logs to make the walls. Those people had a life of work that we never had. Thank you Donnie for showing this and keeping history alive. Blessings to you
It's extremely hard work. I know from personal experience. I helped build the log cabin that I now live in when I was a teenager in the early 80s. We built it using only hand tools and no power tools just like they did in the olden days. We cut the logs from trees off the family farm. I still have and use the axe that I used back then.
Such a shame the places of our heritage is slowly fading away. Thank you for capturing these pictures my awesome mountain brother. God bless you Donnie
Hard times but good times, my grandpa was born in 1908 mountains of WNC, he worked as a carpenter and farmer his whole life. Him and my grandma never owned their own home till they was in their 50's, never took one penny of welfare and raised 2 kids, they never owned a car or had drivers license but the teaching he gave me made me who I am today. Thanks for sharing Donnie 👍
Thank you, Donnie, for sharing pictures of old places. Some of them are gone but will live forever in our hearts and memories. I'm thankful that we have a treasure chest of cherished memories, and we can open the chest and think on them every now and then. Many thanks. God bless .
this is david and janette from tasmania it is great to see the old ones restored we have been doing family history for 27 years and we find head stones family homes and birth death marage certificates condos no good old country living thank you for taking the time to preserve old photos its good to see some one proud of there heritage hate to see places left to rot some times its nice to have a town get together and try to restor some have a big barby afterwoods some times little thourghts have big outcomes our house was built1929 we love it dont need mantion or fancy thing as long as you have each other god bless thank you
Thank you for keeping history alive young people need to know about these places so they can pass it on to the younger generations so they don’t get lost in time
The old lost to time farm stead homes that couldn't hold on anymore bring tears to my eyes...God Bless you my brother Donnie! Thanks for the effort in producing these lovingly made historical documentaries!
When I see these old, sad, falling down houses I think about what it must have been like once upon a time. I don't celebrate holidays but we did as kids and I can imagine the joy they felt even in some of the harder times. Families got together on the special days, the pies and other scrumptious deserts they probably made, and family was everything. The boys and men that went off to war walking away from these very homesteads. Specific memories that died along with each person. How terribly sad.
Donnie I tell you what makes us unique is we have an old soul I’m 52 but I love things like this makes me sad that all the good people are gone .god bless you friend
Id love to live in a house like one of those out in the Styx. Sittin on the porch in a rocking chair sippin on a glass of iced tea watching and listening to the bird's singing. How folks flock to the City is beyond me. I guess the government found that if people can live off the land, they can't be taxed and controlled. That's what a Free Country is. God bless you Donnie, I love your stories and look forward to the next one.
Donnie I’ve been watching you for a few years now. Love your shows and your Appalachian accent. Glad you’re feeling much better and can get around now. Sending prayers and much love your way dear friend. Keep us all informed on your little woodland friends. Loved seeing all the old homes. Wish they could all be restored. See you next time.
Beautiful old buildings. Kind of makes me sick how we've become such a disposable society. Every time I tried to comment, I started to sound bitter, then I remembered the verse: "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also". So, with my priorities in PROPER order, thank you again for preserving and sharing our history, for the remembering and for the learning. God bless and looking forward to the next one.
I've always loved log houses, and hoped we could buy one and perhaps move it and refurbish it. That never happened, but I still like looking at any old historical structures. It's fun seeing what Appalachian Trail hikers come across on their journey. Thank you for talking about these, Mr Donnie.
Beautiful tribute Donnie, really enjoyed this one. Glad to see these places their memory still kept alive and some still lived in and kept up not forgotten. Thank you for sharing.
Hello from KY love you and your channel ❤️.Donnie it is remarkable how much knowledge and interest in the history of Appalachia you possess.I really hope you will think about your elementary schools in your area. What a treat it would be to show the youngsters your Rock Motel and the inhabitants thereof.❤
Well you did it again. I want to go home Eastern Kentucky that is; it will take me 3 days to get over the longing to go back to the hills. Donnie you are a great historian God bless you be safe stay well until the next time .
Back then, the folks believed in having a bunch a children, and they did hard work to live. Today the adults do not have time for the simple life they want complications, with less children or none at all. But when I watch what you bring on your station is memories that will not be forgotten. It is all about the simple and peaceful life which is history, and the young are missing out on a lot. So, stay safe, warm/cool, and blessings.
When we would go to the mountains of western north carolina, there was an old country store outside of Asheville on a mountain road that my dad would always stop at and get cider. The old man that ran it was in his 80's back in the early 70's. It was a sad day when we went by there and it was closed. My dad would go by there when we were in the area but it was obvious that the old man had either died or retired. One of the stores you showed reminded me of that old store. All of those old stores that we would go to have closed or simply rotted down. Such precious memories of how things used to be before the world changed.
It's wonderful to hear that some of those old houses are being lived in and are being renovated. I wish they would do the same thing here in southeast Kentucky. Unfortunately people here tend to let those old houses sit until they rot and fall apart where they stand. They seem to be emotionally attached to them because they refused to sell them or rent them out yeah they're not attached to them enough to live in them themselves.
Donnie...what YOU have seen in your life is 🤔🤔 well words can not and do not do your work justice. Thank you...your work adds to the value I have and combine your work with the Foxfire books and I have a mental gold mine. Thank you
Thank you for sharing Donnie. I love seeing these old structures and how they were built. I particularly like the double pin Reagan cabin with the cabin joined with the kitchen by a covered dog trot.
Howdy Donnie- those old mansions are beautiful but my heart is for the old farm houses and log cabins. If they could talk they could tell some really interesting stories. It saddens me to see them go by the wayside. Having done some restoration work on some of them l know it costs lots of money to put them back like they was. Not many people can afford to spend the money it takes to restore them back to their former glory. Thank you so much for sharing these pictures . God bless
Thank you Donnie!! Appreciate getting to see all these precious old places!! Oh the memories they could share!! Please take care and stay safe! Love, appreciation, hello to your beautiful wife and thank her for loaning you to us all! Hope she is doing well Till the next adventure...❤🙏🇱🇷🌹👋
I hope and pray some of the young people of this generation will wake up and try to save as many as they can and rebuild places and preserve them. Respect and preserve nature and the animals.
This was the best i have seen. Yes they are old and the times were rough, but this was the good life and safe life. Today's world and times can not compare to this. Thank ya so much for sharing this. 100 PERCENT AWESOME.

Good morning Donnie thank you for sharing the history of our old structures and buildings its always nice to see the way people lived back in the day and sad that they will soon be gone. I hope You have a Great weekend! God Bless and take care.😊❤🙏🏻
Donnie. What a great story line. I bought my great grandparents home that was built in 1887. No one had lived in it for 3 years. I’m 90% complete on renovating the first floor. Hope to have the entire home finished by Fall 2025. House is in Eastern Virginia.
Thanx Mr Donnie for a beautiful start to my day . there are still some around here where I'm at. What memories they bring. I love the old barns so much. I played in in pappaws. and the stories I could make up. Life was so hard but they never complained. I miss my mammaw so so much. God bless for doing this video.❤😊❤😊
Always enjoy seeing the old places, like you I hate to seem so many of them disappear. When we see these old places it reminds us of the fact of how time moves on. These old places bring up so many memories.
I really enjoyed the old buildings ! Great video. You and your wife have a wonderfully beautiful blessed weekend! Happy Mother’s Day to the mothers and grandmothers in your family!! ❤
What beautiful pictures. My heart has always been struck when I go by places like these. I imagine who may have lived there, how they lived, where are they now ...Thank you Donnie for sharing this valuable history!! ❤️👍🙏
Thank you so much for sharing this, cousin Donnie! I never pass an old deserted home without wondering how much laughter and how many tears these old places have witnessed. As a sharecropper's young'un, I lived in a number of old tenant houses that are long gone now. At one place we lived, the main house was a plantation home, built of yellow poplar, and I hate to even look that way today, at the newer home that took it's place. While we were there, we found the old slave cemetery when we were making tobacco plant beds, buried in the brush, nothing but fieldstones marking the graves. My daddy cleaned it up and kept it clean the whole time we were there, out of respect for the poor departed, but I doubt anyone even knows it's there, now. Sad! 😥I appreciate everything you share, dear cousin, and I'm so happy to see you healing and improving. I wish you and yours Shabbat Shalom, dear cousin, and may G-d richly bless you and yours! Please pray for the peace of Jerusalem. ❤
The old houses from days gone are beautiful its so sad they left, and no one repairing them. Hope your getting better with each day Donnie. Bless you.❤
Thank you for showing me the ways of my grandparents and great grandparents. I miss the old stories my papaw would tell me. Glad you are feeling better to show us more stories and your critters.
Beautiful memories of the past. Thank you. We're now a pat of Appalachia that has those condos and million dollar vacation homes. It's difficult to remember sometimes how life here was back n the day.
I like seeing how these old places are built It's amazing how wide the boards are from big old trees. Hard to get lumber that wide now.and the shingles and stuff.thanks
Hi Mr. Donnie thank you for sharing the old history of these places. I enjoy it very much and it's so interesting but also so sad to see some of these places going away. Thank you again for sharing this video hope you have a wonderful and blessed day ❤️
Good morning Donnie…Continued Prayers for you…Thank you for keeping the history of our ancestors alive…Love the photos of the houses our ancestors built and lived in….❤️God Bless You…Take care and Lord willing I will see you next time 🙏🏻🇮🇱❤️💯
This channel is probably my favorite TH-cam channel. Donnie always brings good family entertainment that teaches you something. I for one appreciate that. My whole family enjoys Donnie's family programming. I do have one question, why don't anyone ever show old funeral homes from the past?
I love these old places... but you really need to go inside to really experience them... and you really haven't lived until you've had to use the outhouse! Thanks Donnie... have a wonderful weekend! 🙂👍
Thanks for your videos my wife and I watch your videos non stop of a morning on TH-cam on our tv we really enjoy the history of your part of our country and you have brought to light lots of old memories that we have lived through just like you and I don’t think most younger generations could make it through some of the times we went through but then again it’s like you mentioned we didn’t know any different so it was ok once again thank you for sharing and you take care.
HI. Good morning everyone. Good morning Mr. Donnie. I hope you are doing well. I like the simple way better than now. Like you said, it is about the Land now.
What wonderful pictures I love to see the old houses and store building and schools this is slowly going away the churches was pretty too loved the video Donnie ❤️ Shelby
Wow you have done your Appalachian tribe proud yet again Mr Donnie! I am amazed at just how big some of these structures are and grateful you have shared them with us here. Thank you for all you do to preserve the history.
I appreciate the educational nature of your videos, Don. They represent a somber reality things change and don't stay the same. Work was physical compared to mentally draining. It makes sense as to why families don't hold to these properties. Keeping up a house costs way too much money, and trying to buy a home in this economy, forget about it.
This is a wonderful video. I love seeing these old structures but hate seeing what’s happening to them. I I’ve in Georgia and you are right, there aren’t many left. Thank you so very much for sharing. God bless and stay safe. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
My cousin bought our grandparents house a few years ago and he was doing some work on it. Said grandpa had his respect because it was unreal the way he had put those boards together and the house was so well built it was amazing. Took a lot of work back then with not a lot of the tools we have now. We’re all elderly now and many of us have passed on but that old house is still there. Great video!
I call East Tennessee my home. I live next to the tobacco barn, my great grandfather built on the land that he farmed. Thank you for the grace and sensitivity with which you speak of my people.
Wonderful video! I love seeing those old homes, churches and barns. The huge trees that they had to cut to build them. I would imagine the area we saw 50 years ago was so much different when those places were built. Thanks and have a Blessed day!
Oh my goodness I just love seein these places reminds me of our ole family place in Gratio,TN alittle community close to Reelfoot Lake. We used an outhouse and chamber pots and washed in No.3 washtub and used rainwater out of a rain barrel to wash our hair. So of my most precious memories
Mr Donnie this is a beautiful video that brings back a lot of memories. I grew up in an old house. We had a barn too. You have beautiful mountains. Beautiful pictures to look at. Good to have you back Mr Donnie. Thank you for all your hard work. And God bless you always
These are some of my favorite videos to watch. I pass through these mountains many times a year and also live a foot hills of them. I find a deeper appreciation after watching these videos. I'm glad this video came up today as I travel them this weekend!
I love the beautiful landscape of the Appalachian mountains and you are Great at capturing it and telling the stories about it ! Thank you Donnie and God bless you !
God bless Brother Donnie thanks for a peaceful trip through God's country. Reminds me of when we lived in North Troy Vermont one of the best time of our family's life.
Oh Donnie! Bless your heart for finding and filming these old places of the past! So sad to see these awesome structures going back to nature and nobody caring except those of us who remember. I agree with you, bless those who are renovating and preserving these buildings! Blessings always my dear friend! 🙏❤️😊
Thank you Donnie! I love seeing these old buildings and listening to their histories. You help keep the past alive and remembered and for that I say good on you sir! 👏🏻❤️
Thank you Donnie I always enjoy your videos and I could listen to you all day! the buildings were built with love the structures on some of them I really liked very well built to last as long as they have. I hope your health is much better now? God bless you and yours love from the UK 👏👏💜
Hi Donnie! Thank you for this beautiful video. If I could I would love to have an old farm house with a wrap around porch (fixed up). Lots of memories and beautiful land. It’s a shame everything is being torn down for the money. They call it “progress “. I once told my son life is an ever ending story with each chapter telling a story. Sad but true. Take care Donnie! 😊🙏🏼❤️🕊️

Donnie. What a great story line. I bought my great grandparents home that was built in 1887. No one had lived in it for 3 years. I’m 90% complete on renovating the first floor. Hope to have the entire home finished by Fall 2025. House is in Eastern Virginia.
That is so awesome my friend, thanks for sharing! 🙏

Hello my friend. Thank you. Your very welcome.
What beautiful pictures. My heart has always been struck when I go by places like these. I imagine who may have lived there, how they lived, where are they now ...Thank you Donnie for sharing this valuable history!! ❤️👍🙏
I understand that my friend. I'm the same way. Thanks for sharing this. Your very welcome. God bless you.
Awesome my friend. I totally understand that. Thanks for sharing for your thoughts and memories. God bless you.

This channel is probably my favorite TH-cam channel. Donnie always brings good family entertainment that teaches you something. I for one appreciate that. My whole family enjoys Donnie's family programming. I do have one question, why don't anyone ever show old funeral homes from the past?
Awesome my friend. God bless you. Thank you so much. Your very welcome. I never really thought about it.
I love these old places... but you really need to go inside to really experience them... and you really haven't lived until you've had to use the outhouse!
Thanks Donnie... have a wonderful weekend! 🙂👍
That's so true my friend. God bless you. Thanks for sharing.

Amazing, these old buildings. I wish I could have saved my grandpa's farm house. So many memories in that little clapboard house. Thanks Mr Donnie.
Thank you friend. Thanks for sharing this. Your very welcome.
Commenting from Virginia. God bless all. 👍
Hello my friend. God bless you.
I understand my friend. Thanks so much for sharing this. God bless you.
I just love this kind of subject! A glimpse of the past of how people live, worked & prospered.
Awesome my friend. Thank you so much. God bless you.
Mr Donnie, thanks so much for showing us these old buildings. So interesting to see and learn about. God bless 😊
Your very welcome my friend. Thanks for sharing. God bless you.
Praise the Lord you're doing better, Sir! Thank you for all you do with your channel, bringing history to life for us, and keeping it fresh!

Thank you friend. God bless you. Your very welcome.
WOW Thanks for sharing this my friend. God bless you.
Thanks Donnie!!. Absolutely beautiful!! It's such a a shame that they are all going away. Jim Winner

I call East Tennessee my home. I live next to the tobacco barn, my great grandfather built on the land that he farmed. Thank you for the grace and sensitivity with which you speak of my people.
Awesome my friend. Thanks so much for sharing. God bless you. Your very welcome.
Wonderful video! I love seeing those old homes, churches and barns. The huge trees that they had to cut to build them. I would imagine the area we saw 50 years ago was so much different when those places were built.
Thanks and have a Blessed day!
Awesome my friend. Glad you enjoyed it. God bless you. Your very welcome.
