Kakuryu was extremely underrated and even disrespected by a lot of casual fans - he had 6 title wins (优勝) - this number puts him over 70% of all 73 past Yokozunas. Not to mention, he did it while competing against the GOAT Hakuho and two other Yokozuna (Harumafuji and Kisenosato). He was a great Yokozuna, even just by the numbers. ❤

he's hightly underrated because of hakuho, haramafuji and kisensato.there is a reason he's less spoken of than those other three. put terenofuji in the mix and still kakuryo pulls the shortest straw.

    • @f.roz1401
      @f.roz1401 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@FERNweh101 Much much less: there is no class of weight in sumo, so can happen that a 100 kg rikishi fight with a guy that weight 200 kg, there is no fear to fight as almost certain loser. The guy that i call goat (is more correct G.O.A.T.) also had a (short) moment when facing Asashoryu lead him to a lose, but he had improved himself till overtaking opponent, being the greater of all time (Asashoryu was a real dickhead but even probably the best fighter ever at the time, the ONLY that has a positive record versus him). Hakuho, the goat, it's a unique case of overhelming superiority: many rikishi made their debut and fought till their retirement during his reign as yokozuna, that will reach 15 years in the next may (a yokozuna is GENTLY invited to retire if in a single basho can not achieve 8 victory of 15 bouts, in the last basho Hakuho had win 15/15, coming from an almost intere year of inactivity by injuries)

Tremendous physique and strength in Hakuho, obviously. Watch his posture. He can maintain an angle between his back and legs. Almost impossible to force him up. When he does appear to be forced up... he actually, has already decided he is in a losing position. Just thinking out loud. Kakuryu is amazing, never a push over in the face of Hakuho. Huge respect.

In general I was usually more interested in speed sports than in power, but the top Rikishi have incredible balance, and such great footwork. And none I have watched were Hakuho's match. He was not only so powerful bust he possessed the footwork, quickness, and balance to match it. Incredible athlete.

Hakuho was a bad matchup for everyone, but Kakuryu especially. Harumafuji managed to get quite a few wins against Hakuho, Even Kisenosato got 2x as many as Kakuryu. In a sport where so many top competitors spend a decade or more in the top division and never win a single tournament, it has to be tough to be one of the best of the best, and be competing at a time when there is someone who monopolized victories the way Hakuho did.

Kakuryu was the Yokozuna while Hakuho was the Shogun.
Why? So Sumo is very honorable and it’s historical, it’s one of the oldest sports to man. Sumo was a form of military training and the Shogun was the highest rank being General/Leader.
While Kakuryu being as amazing as he was Hakuho ruled above all hence why we called him the Shogun. Granted it’s quite pointless but this is how we went about it when we were younger.

Random question: if Sumo is a religious ritual, are the Refs Shinto Priests?
Watching this video a second time and only watching the Ref.
They have so many emotions, it's an entirely different experience...
Just watch one little guy try to dodge two human beings cos-playing a car accident using impact velocity.
And if he is so purple and fancy looking that he gets to carry a knife? I've been told that he carries the knife to kill himself if he ever makes a bad call.
How true is any of this?

based on this clips alone, kakuryo could have won more if he has the size to match hakuho...and that what makes hakuho great he has it all

This was the modern Taiho vs Kashiwado rivalry. Remember Taiho was so dominant Kashiwado only won 5 Yusho

If not for Hakuho, Kaks would've clocked at least 15 yusho, perhaps more.....he was that good...:-)

was the creator of this video biased towards hakuho? Or did Hakuho actually win 95%of his bouts with kakuryu?

As I watched most of Hakuho's bouts, wrestlers would have to attacked him right from the start... wrestlers won't have the chance down the stretch because hakuho is technically super skilled. They had a good match with Yokosuna Asashoryo... but during those time.. hakuho was not at his peak....
