Love the Takumi for short faster runs. Thanks for another good comparison review. Strangely you might think but I haven’t found anything else I prefer to the Alphafly for races, even at 5k distance they seem to make me get that little extra. That’s even counting the Vapourfly.

Alphafly great 5k shoe in my opinion

Most precise review of the sc pacer yet. I feel like most other reviews I’ve seen kind of miss the mark as they’re trying to review the sc pacers more from a training standpoint vs as primarily a racing shoes. I understand these are more niche, but there absolutely is a need for lower stacked racers for that instant ability to switch gears in a race. I hope brands can find the budget to make more specialized shoes like these.
Side note, I feel like the avanti TYO spikes could easily be adopted to the low stack road racer. The rods instead of a typical spike plate lends itself to be able to take on different outsoles. I hope adidas takes advantage of that. That shoe with the outsole from the float ride fast pro or the older takumi sens would be perfect.

I think it's interesting how nobody addresses body weight as a factor in these new super shoes. He mentions how rigid the SC's plate seems & how he needs to run low 4:40 efforts to generate enough force to load the shoe. But someone who is a rail thin 132lbs will have a totally different experience than someone who is a ripped 198lbs. That person pushing 200 lbs won't need to run anywhere close to the hard efforts as the 132lbs runner in order to load that plate. Same goes for the 'softer' Takumi. That shoe might feel great at 5k-10k paces for the lighter runner but feel too wallow-y for the heavier runner at that those paces. Everyone talks about plate & foam performance, but those elements don't operate in a vacuum. It would be interesting if a scale was created accounting for this... like are some shoes simply not suitable for certain body types at some paces?

Exactly! I weigh over 165 lbs and found a lot of times my impressions differ from other runners reviews. People often praise the soft and bouncy nature of some super shoes meanwhile they feel too relaxed to me.

To me the Pacer definetly feels like a gen 1 product. The upper is too flimsy, laces are too thin. I'm rooting for a much improved v2.

So wild. I remember racing marathons in shoes less than SC pacer and now these which have almost twice the stack height of something like nike LT4 is a 5k/10k racer. Nike’s Zoom Streak Spectrum Plus was my go to marathon shoe around 2004-2005.

It's funny that nowadays people can't mention a marathon race without mentioning a super shoe name.

In Poland NB SC Pacer I can get for 299PLN which is 68 USD. Takumi Sen is like 500PLN so around 120 USD. I am aiming to run 5/10k races only. What would you recomend ? I am geting more into SC Pacer as price difference is huge and I guess for 5/10k there won't be huge difference on the results as both have carbon plate inside.

The Takumi Sen 8 gives me a blister on my right little toe, it is most frustrating! No other shoe gives me that issue. I otherwise really like the shoe, and here in the UK they are 50% of the price of the Vaporfly. I prefer the Vaporfly, but for speed sessions and the price difference I would prefer to just use the Takumi Sen 8 but the blister issue can be very bad. I have heard the Nike Streakfly isn't as good and can wear out quickly, and the NB SC Pacer isn't as good either.....have you any other recommendations for speed work for 800m-5k pace stuff? For longer efforts I prefer the protection of the Vaporfly or Alphafly if I'm wanting to really push, otherwise I'll use Saucony Endorphin Speed 3. Thanks for any suggestions!

Can either of these be considered for high school cross country race day shoes? Both my daughters have used spikeless xc flats in the past but they prefer their daily trainers (NB 880 and Brooks Ghost) due to comfort. Looking for fast, lightweight alternatives to flats.
