  • The Royal Kludge 925 is the perfect keyboard for someone on the go. The 60% board can fold in 2 to be stored neatly for travel.

    Hi Rob! Liked your video I owned this keyboard and I love it! For an IT Developer guy like me who works on the go with a 2-in-1 laptop, this kb is a perfect tool and the typing feels great. At minute 4:30 you mention your concerns with the ribbon cable, is your lower half still functional? Sadly mine got death on the lower half after a year of usage and the sad part is that now the keyboard is not for sale anymore and it was the only foldable with mechanical keys option in the market. I guess that I will contact customer support to see if they can provide me with a replacement part of the ribbon able to fix it. It has been hard to find DIY support o google for this product.

      Hey thanks for the comment about the video truly appreciated it. I used the keyboard for about 3 months with no issues then gave it as a gift to someone who travels a lot for work. I'm not sure if they still use it and how they maintained it but I can reach out to try and find out. That sucks what happened and it was my biggest worry over time

      I has this issue too. My keyboard sometimes doesnt work on down side, If I fold again, with more carefully, Than this works. I think mine will broken, not much time

      @@alandbm That sucks to hear, if it's jot too old maybe you can reach out and see if there is a warranty or something that can be done

    it is solving problems that dont exist. Even if u travel everyday, folding does nothing, it will still consume same volume and plus has more chances of cable wear and tear near the fold and keycapscoming off.

    • @RobsCorner
      @RobsCorner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does take up less volume than most 60% boards, but the risk of wear and quality issues is much higher I agree

      For what it's worth mine (with brown switches) is fine after a year of daily driving. I've originally bought it to occasionally use with Steam Deck and ended up using it daily with my GPD WinMax2 - the only real complaint I have is that back light CHEWS through battery and even without it the keyboard requires frequent changes. I disagree that folding does nothing - it allows me to fit it with all the other stuff I carry, unlike regular 60% keyboard. While volume might be ultimately the same, the change in for factor allows for better management. Instead of adding overall bulk to my backpack it neatly fits on the side, leaving space in the middle for more bulky items (like GaN 300W charger, Nreal Air glasses, power bank, Logitech mouse, etc.). I guess another design flaw is that it folds with key caps facing outwards - and since it's low profile keyboard you have to be mindful when sliding it in and out of provided sack cover to not loose key caps in the process.
      Overall I've bought it as a novelty and it ended up being my daily driver. Being able to work with 6 devices simultaneously (1 wired, 5 BT) has proven to be significantly more useful than initially anticipated in my case.
      Overall I'd bought it again and would gladly pay up for a worthy successor with better features and corrected design. Make it fold inwards instead of outwards, get better battery, add 2.4GHz on top of existing protocols, add programmable layers and dedicated F-key row)

      Not that I know of from Royal Kludge but there are foldable bluetooth keyboards, they are not mechanical though

      Does the keyboard stay on the whole time? Could be a battery issue, was it bought recently ? Maybe battery can't hold the charge

      And yes I boght received it few days ago. I remember some user complaint about its battery issue so I've been thinking it might be common issue of the keyboard

    DId you have used red switches before?

    • @RobsCorner
      @RobsCorner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I mostly use red switches and some keyboards have brown switches. But these were the 1st low profile switches I used

    • @Micromation
      @Micromation 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd advise against low profile Red switches - I've made that kind of mistake once and lesson was learned. Only Brown or Blues for me, otherwise it's a typo galore - you really start appreciating the tactile feedback. Low profile switches have just short enough activation distance that a harder sneeze creates inputs on Reds. Maybe other kind of linear switches with heavier actuation work better but low profile Reds are on my personal blacklist.

    is the kickstand made of metal? or is it plastic?

    • @RobsCorner
      @RobsCorner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I remember it was the same as the body which is aluminum that fold closed magnetically. I don't have it anymore to confirm.
      See answer from @ryuuxiii below, thanks for the response

    • @ryuuxiii
      @ryuuxiii ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm an owner of this keyboard and I can tell you that the kickstands are plastic and inside of each side of the kickstand have a metal bar that interacts with the magnetic

    Would have been better if it folds the other way, hiding the keys for protection while on the go.
