I have 2 of those Walmart pocket sketchbooks and they’re amazing. Filled them with fountain pen sketches. Really really good ones. Much much sturdier than field notes.
I can confirm, those Walmart ones are my favorite notebooks of all time. Both the thicker ones and the thin ones. I bought both of them in bulk because they are so cheap yet the covers lasts way longer, and the pages take ink well. They've been my little secret while everyone else buys field notes.
I thank that the subscription is not worth it because you have to take whatever they send you. It is much easier and better to just pick and buy the notebooks you want. I do believe that they have a water proof notebook but I can't remember the name. They do have lined paper as well.
That is the potential downside of any subsceiption service that sends u boxes. However, I have received 3 shipments so far and all of them have been very cool. U can get some bonuses as part of the service too, so that helps. Expedition is the water-resistant one they have and it works, depends on how much a person sweats, lol. I have destroyed several, but i am in Pennsylvania and this was in the summer, so i sweat a lot.
Field Notes would not hold up for me in the back pocket. I wear tactical/cargo pants every day, so i put it in the side pockets and they do last the 4-6 weeks it takes me to use it up. Each person has their own preferences, but i do enjoy swapping out new books every month or so. The wear they get gives it character, which i enjoy. Cheers!
I enjoy the patina as well and I think the back pocket plus the pencil in the binding messed it up bad. I still loved having it on me as it did help me last month for sure. Upcoming video on that!
I gotta tell ya man if you're looking for a solid back pocket companion, take a look at rite-in-the-rain's smallest stapled notebook. Super durable, and you barely feel it in your pocket. You could probably carry 3 at a time. If you like using a pencil I'd say give them a shot. Im loving them.
Is that the actual name of the company or just the product? I have heard write in the rain notebooks are good but I just thought that was a generic term for them.
I stand behind this as well. I have a few of those rite in the rain pocket notebooks and they are phenomenal. Especially with pencils. The feedback is great! Personally I really want to edc those a lot more often. I just don’t like that is very few pages. But I’m willing to try carrying more than 1 with me and see how that goes. Leuchtturm presently is my preferred carry but I’ve always wanted to carry more the rite in the rain. Is the lack of few pages that has me not doing so. But again I’ll try carrying more than 1, like 1517hutzel mentioned. Never occurred to me to try that lol. Downside is that you’ll have to stay away from fountain pens. 🤷♂️
