    After 270 miles I called Shocker about the air pressure for the airbag. They suggest that there is enough pressure that both bushings move freely. Will update once we put some more miles on it.

      @opaandomascampingadventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Today we put enough pressure in the bag to keep both bushings free. That was 60#. The ride has improved considering the roads we are traveling.

    i watched this video and several others. I have a 14K Equal-I-Zer hitch. I had them send me an extended shank so I could open my tailgate as I didn't want to swivel the jack head. I pull a Jayco Eagle HT with a GMC Denali HD 2500. Total weight 19,400. Personally, I have no idea why you get "white-knuckled" pulling a much lighter trailer with a much lighter truck. All I can see is you and the rest that purchased this hitch just added 25lbs to an already heavy hitch and lost the use of the tailgate.

    You have the exact same weight distribution hitch that I have. I am glad I seen yours work so that answered my question if mine would work. I wish at the end of the video you would have commented on your thoughts of how it approved or didn't approve the ride and was it worth the money instead of the I think I am going to add 5 more lbs of pressure. If there is another video that has that I apologize because I haven't seen it.

      @@opaandomascampingadventures I am on the fence with the shocker and the gen-y. I'm only hauling around 6000 pounds with a SUV. Ordered helper shocks also. Biggest issue we have with overall comfort is cement highways and bridges. At least most bridges are shorter than highways. :)

    How does this compare to a gin Y hitch ?

    • @opaandomascampingadventures
      @opaandomascampingadventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really don’t have a answer. Gen Y does not use a airbag. They use large rubber bushings at pivot points.

    Just found your video and really appreciate the review and time you put into making the video! After all these months (it's March 2021 at the time I post this) do you have any new thoughts or updates? The piece that I see on the test drive is the stress on the airbag when starting from a stop. I wonder if airbag tearing/failure is a concern or the two bolts with bushing since they are the only things connecting the hitch head to the hitch receiver,. I'm trying to envision a scenario where the initial jolt by the trailer would cause the bag or one (or both) of the bolts fail? It would seem like a potential catastrophic failure. I would think Air Lifts bags are better designed for compression and not extension. Any other tests to see/measure the difference before and after? Any other lessons learned? These look like an interesting idea to help a bumper pull, but I'm at 1K# tongue weight and probably at the 11K# trailer weight so I'm wonder if there's any fatigue issues that you might be seeing in the bag or the bolts. How are the compression washers holing up? I imagine with there is too much play that the hitch may start to cut into them after time so I wonder if they are replaceable? Thanks!

    • @opaandomascampingadventures
      @opaandomascampingadventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, the bolts with the bushings limit the travel, so I don't have any concern about that. We are still enjoying the comfort of pulling the trailer. We also have the same tongue and trailer weight, but still don't exceed the design limits. We have only put 1800 miles on it so far. Parts are replaceable. Doing a smart weigh April 7th to see if it has any affect on the distribution system. Smart Weigh scales each wheel instead of each axle.

      @@opaandomascampingadventures where you can get the smart weight done? We stay in Hilton Head, SC

    • @opaandomascampingadventures
      @opaandomascampingadventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Usmcgac A SMART WEIGH is offered by the Escapee's RV Club in Florida, Arizona and Texas. However, if your not aware the CAT scales in Truck stops around the country are good too. It costs around $12 for your initial weigh and only $6 if you can re-weigh within 24 hours. So you have time to weigh with and without the RV. Good Luck!

    Good video sir. First question; Did you feel an improvement on the overall ride experience? Sway and bouncing, How they reacted? If you felt an improvement, is worth 600..?

    • @opaandomascampingadventures
      @opaandomascampingadventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For bouncing it was well worth it. It does not have a lot to do with sway control since your using your existing sway control. We thought it was worth it.

  • @TheLifeandSadEnding
    @TheLifeandSadEnding 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @opaandomascampingadventures

      Your weight distribution should be your sway control. This just smooths out the ride.

  • @davidhill588
    @davidhill588 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    not to be a Debbie downer but doest that hunk of shit kind of defeat the purpose of the weight distribution hitch? if you would have gotten a decent truck you wouldn't need to spend all that money on air bags on the truck and a hunk of shit hitch. just saying

    • @opaandomascampingadventures
      @opaandomascampingadventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you look we are still using the weight distribution system. Yes air bags were overkill. If I done it again I would just use timbrens. I still recommend the shocker although I now tow a 5th wheel.
