Rogue Fitness Y1 and Y2 Yoke Review (power rack alternative)

  • The Y2 Yoke from Rogue Fitness, was the first new piece of equipment I even got, back then I couldn't have guessed that I would develop a full blown addiction to buying fitness equipment. Regardless this Yoke may very well be able to fill the entirety of your home gym needs, learn from me, avoid addiction. ignore those first few comments, my children are trying to be nice to me.

    super in-depth vid! exactly what i was looking for, thanks so much! i am planning on getting this instead of a half rack when i move out into a condo/apartment. love how you can easily store it away like you would do squat stands but these are soo much more versatile! appreciate all the edits you did to showcase all the possibilities. you have an awesome garage gym too!! happy new years boss :)

    I haven't even finished the video (which I'm sure I will enjoy), but I had to stop to comment that I love the Dragon Ball Z Abridged quote on the wall!
    Having watched the video, I would tell people interested in purchasing a yoke to consider the Valor Fitness BD-21. I bought one last year and it was $400 and it included j-cups and a pull up bar. It is the same height as the Y-2, and I had the same issue getting it outside, but I found you could tip it over, grasp the cross members in your hands, and farmer's carry the few final feet out of the garage. If that doesn't appeal to you, you can also cut down the cross members a few inches, keeping most of the height but preventing the headaches mentioned in the video. I also have used it as my power rack for 6 months with a pair of Rouge Infinity spotter arms and it's done great for me the whole time!

  • @andysadvice3236

    I got a Titan yoke myself and didn't realize how big of pain it is to take it apart and put it together to work out. Lining up the crossbar each time and the welding wasn't a perfect fit either so you got to jimmy it like you do in your video? You got any advice in how to speed up the process and also how do you prevent the uprights from crashing down, since it needs perfect alignment from the crossmember. I swear, I get a hell of a shoulder workout trying to line up the crossmember and the uprights!

    • @AverageDadReviewsFitness
      @AverageDadReviewsFitness  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't know if the Rogue uprights are wider on the bottom or heavier, but mine actually stand up on their own pretty well. As far as getting the crossmember on it's annoying almost every time, but when I'm using the yoke a lot in the summer what I do is get the yoke set in a position where the crossmember moves pretty well then use some chalk to mark the position of the skids on the ground so when I want to use it again I just line it up with those and the crossmember goes on much easier.

    I'm torn between this and the sml-1 squat stand...I have low ceilings in my basement, 86". so can't use any of the taller racks. I don't actually do yoke walks..I need it for bench press, squats and I would like to be able to do pull ups in it..I've seen reviews saying its very difficult to do pull ups with the overhead bar due to how thick it is...so how stable is this, it seemed a bit wobbly when you were loading plates on it....do you know if the titan pull up bar you mentioned can be used on the sml-1 ??

    • @AverageDadReviewsFitness
      @AverageDadReviewsFitness  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That bar is for 2x3 tubing, so it's not going to work on the squat stand. In your situation I'd probably just buy a bolt on pull up bar and add it to the top. Get the tallest you can fit and then hopefully it wont get in the way during squats

    For the garage door issue just lower the crossbar, pick it up in an angle and you’ll be fine to go through a garage door

    Awesome review! I ordered an S-4 to save space but now I kind of wish I ordered the Y-1 instead. At least I saved some money. I was also looking into the Titan pull-up bar but didn’t pull the trigger since I wasn’t sure it would fit. So glad you brought it up. I wasn’t able to find much information on Rogue Infinity comparability.
    Did the pins that come with the Titan bar work fine, or did you use Rogue pins? You mentioned at the end that Titan T-3 and Infinity attachments aren’t compatible, so wanted to know if you hacked the Titan pull-up bar in any way. I’m also interested in their spotter arms since they’re much cheaper than Rogue.

    • @AverageDadReviewsFitness
      @AverageDadReviewsFitness  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pins had enough play that they worked fine for me.

    • @jamestonbellajo
      @jamestonbellajo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AverageDadReviewsFitness thanks for the reply. That’s great to know, but the pins in other attachments like the spotter arms may not have as much play?

    • @AverageDadReviewsFitness
      @AverageDadReviewsFitness  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamestonbellajo so there's two types of pens you typically get, there's the ones you just pressed through and then the ones you have to put the clip on the other side, pretty much all the pins I have from Rogue and from Titan are almost the same diameter. So far depends I get with attachments for Infinity the Titan t3 series Titan x3 series and Rogue monster light all fit fine interchangeably. The only attachment issues I have is the whole spacing on Titan is slightly different than rogues so if you have something that has a spot for a pin like spotter arms on the bottom the holes don't line up, the pins fit fine

    Question regarding the yoke as a squat rack.
    Is it possible to use the safety arms as hooks to unrack and rerack? This way the barbell is further from the crossbar and you're not risking to bump your head?

    • @AverageDadReviewsFitness
      @AverageDadReviewsFitness  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I m 5.11 and I want to use the Y1 as my only rack for squat and presses because I want to be able to dismount it quickly to free floor space for crossfit kind of training. Does the titan pull up bar improves the head banging issue? Is it still stable for heavy squatting? I d love to get the Y2 but I m concerned about removing the crossbar quickly when I need space and mounting it back again once I m done. My ceiling is 98 inches

    • @AverageDadReviewsFitness
      @AverageDadReviewsFitness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      its pretty wobbly, and still fairly close to your head on the short uprights. I'm 5'11" too and it is usable, but very close to my head.

  • @johnchilelli
    @johnchilelli 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What is the width between the uprights? Rogue sells an infinity bolt on pull up bar at 43 inches. Would love if it fit

    • @jamestonbellajo
      @jamestonbellajo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s 43” measuring from the inside of the uprights so any of the Infinity and even Echo bolt-on crossmembers and pull-up bars should work. I’m thinking about getting a crossmember to put on the bottom of my Y-1 to stabilize it and it would essentially become a squat stand.

  • @spartakos3178
    @spartakos3178 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm trying to figure out if I can make a half rack out of it.
    Also need to figure out if the infinity safety spotter can take a 600 lb drop

    • @AverageDadReviewsFitness
      @AverageDadReviewsFitness  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think with all the parts and mods you would need to turn it into a half rack it probably be cheaper just to get the monster light series. I know Rogue has conversion kits for squat stands to turn them into half racks but I think it's only for 3x3 tubing.
      As far as dropping I would be surprised if they broke at 600 lb, but depending on height and angle probably want some plates on the back half of the rack to make sure it didn't flip over.

    • @spartakos3178
      @spartakos3178 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AverageDadReviewsFitness honestly if I can safely push the squat on it to 700, I'll just leave it alone too.
      At one point I was gonna build a 4x4 power rack, but went with this instead because I wasn't confident in the available wood holding with a worst case scenario drop of 600 plus.
