List maker here. I list out a few priorities then later on I start filling in items I actually completed during the day. When I only had the high level to-do list, I would feel horrible if I didn't complete anything on that list. After a while of failed lists, I decided to see where my time and attention was actually going. Sometimes the items on the to-do list have numerous prerequisites that were previously unknown or the task title implies that everything be completed to count. Me seeing how I was making progress in the home was actually motivating and usually the task I procrastinated the most would still get done that day because I had enough momentum to push me through.
This is awesome!
This puts 'eat the frog' into a new perspective because red frogs are venomous!
Also, I think Tamara Rosier and Sandra Boynton (the author of Blue Hat, Green Hat) should collaborate to make a helpful version of this for kids.
Oooh, LOVE that!
I also use like a brain dump to do list. It ALL goes on the list. No organization to it! At the beginning of the week i pick items off the master list put on the weekly. Then based on what I have going on I will do my small sticky note to do list fo daily or on a daily planning sheet if a busy day. When a task is completed ✔️ the daily, weekly and highlight it on the master so i see its done. I just keep the master list going. Its a good visual to see things getting done! Now I may add the color coding you talk about to see if it will work together. Picking different colored things for weekly & daily!
Great to have a system and to be thinking of ways to improve it over time!
This makes so much more sense to me than any kind of prioritization, list-making, time-blocking productivity tip I have ever heard! And I always love a way to add colors to something. Thank you!
Right? I love it!
I agree completely! I ❤ this channel. Everything makes sense.
This is actually a very good idea. Scheduling in things to look forward to seems sustainable.
Yes!
Hi Robin, I love your fresh perspective on 'imperfect minimalism'. I would love it if you elaborate someday on decluttering/simplifying things like tasks at home and at work, social obligations, schedules etc. So less on how to get everything done and more about choosing what to do. I often feel overwhelmed by everything that 'needs' to be done in my life.
Keep it up!
So it's the Bullet Journal Method. It actually works especially for ADHD.
thx for including the planners, my green time is knitting, sewing and cooking 🤠
Oooh, those are good ones!
Wow, do you make house calls ? 😉 I don’t enjoy cooking especially if I have to prep it, cook it and then clean it ! My green time is reading and decluttering lol.
@refinedsimplicity8420 wow, do you make house calls (decluttering)? Lol.
@@janine4485 yes. I work for tea and cookies !
That makes so much sense. Thank you. I make to do lists and recently have found that all I am doing is the nice jobs and my procrastination list is getting longer. I am going to shift to this new method from today. Thanks again. You are a star.
Thanks Sylvia!
You are so personable, and kind, you should have your own tv show. ❤️
You nailed it with that red example. It's a struggle not to blow up at my family, and yes, the cause is the tension of doing things last-minute. And then I'll beat myself up, which means I'm STILL emotionally unavailable to them 😞😞
The fact that you're seeing this pattern is one step to helping it start to improve. I hope this video and others will help as well!
Love the bowling analogy! ☺️
Thank you!
Robin, this is such a clever concept which I’m definitely going to try. Thank you for introducing it to me ❤.
You're welcome Deirdre!
The thing with the beets. I lol'd
Thank you very much! The color tip is so great. I'll definitely try it. I only fear one thing. I know now my main problem is not in the 'planning' part. It's in the 'doing' part. So if you have tips for that, I'm your client:)
This! Yes! Planning paralysis! I learned a master list helps! A running to do list, moving things to weekly then daily. Room for wiggle room if I am having higher or lower energy day!
This is why I watch TH-cam videos, for “outside the box” ideas and suggestions. Loving the colour coding of tasks but I keep a paperless house so I’ll have to find a workaround.
If you use an online calendar system, you could colour code it!
Maybe incorporate (for instance) yellow things or paint the walls yellow in the laundry areas. Place some Blue things in your computer area. Green things in your distress zone. And make a small corner, if you have room, to keep/deal with emergency tasks.
I've finally understood why I always burn my food..
Everything feels like it belongs on the red list in my world.
This is the second time I've seen a video of yours, and they were both wonderful! I just subscribed to your channel.
Aww, thanks Janine!
Max miller is a favorite of mine and my husband
He’s awesome!
Great video and tips. Thank you. You’re so positive, it’s so fun to watch your videos.
Thank you!
I love max’s channel also 😅
He’s the best!
I agree about the beets!
Right? 🤢
@@MinimalistHomelove me some beets! And okra!!
just discovered you! love your videos ( ummm yea i should be sleeping but enjoy the quiet if house shut down).
i am a big to do list - trying a bit of bullet journal but not working so great. i have general list for month and try to break out by week. and then the days w/ lots of arrows to next dat (over list for day)
i need to try this!
Thank you so much for this! Very helpful.
Thanks Caitlyn!
Thank you for this video, I have never heard of this book but it makes so much sense! I'm going to have to digest this and watch this again so I can incorporate it in my daily life.
Oh, and I love how your blanket made an appearance for this video in particular... it was the perfect accent for the topic!! BTW I adore that blanket, every time I see it, it lights up my joy :)
oooh, thank you!
I have just started watching Robin and was scrolling comments to see if the blanket's perfect colors for this video were intentional.
@@missyb7311 Haha, great minds think alike ;)
So simple! Thank u!❤
you are such a smart 🍪
(& hilarious)
Thank you!!
Eisenhower matrix?
I love that one too! It's a wee bit different ☺️
does anyone else fold sheets?
i just stuff the set in a one of its pillow cases!!!
I put them right back on the bed!
I hate to ask, but what if you don’t know what your “greens” are because you’ve hidden in the blue zone so frequently that you just feel ashamed of who you are most of the time? (ADHD)
I felt the same some time ago. You can try a task and ask yourself later what colour it was while doing it. Then mark it with the colour you'd chosen. Over time you'll feel safer and safer about what makes you feel good, what keeps you energized and what costs you more energy.
Sometimes I felt something would be so hard to do but when I finished it those tasks gave me much more energy than it costs me to do it. And your brain will make it easier to do if you do it over and over again.
All the best for you! 🍀
I don’t get it 😢 i have 4 things
Procrastinated tasks
Boring tasks
Screwing off time
Things I enjoy

cats don't eat catnip. Do any cats actually eat catnip??
My one cat eats everything I thought cats would never eat like carrots or potatoes. He likes to bite into silicone, too. So I guess yes, there might be cats outside who'd like to eat catnip.
While writing this my other cat is desperately searching for the little baby doll from the dollhouse of my daughter. She loves hair ties and this baby doll wears a little neckerchief made with rubberband so I guess it smells good for her.😅
Some like it more than others. Maybe more outside / fresh… good point! 🐈
Cool idea .. I have colored pencils & highliters in those colors and will incorporate them into separating tasks on my schedule & to do lists. Ty fs. 👍🩷
That's awesome Brianna!
Love this!! Just what I needed to hear this morning!😊
Thank you!
