My parents live by the Bethel campus, about a block away from the raised tracks, so we got to watch the Soo Line pulling all sorts of freight - the view was much better in the winter when leaves were down. Despite the distance, the house vibrated a little bit as the occasional late night fast trains came through.
I just love EMD roots-blown engine sounds If there is emission control in the exhasut, I think it didn't matter because in my mind, we search the blower sound, not the exhaust sound... Nice video lads
Love that weathered finish! Thanks for the close-up of the loco, very useful. If you see this old horse again perhaps e few more close-ups of various parts of it please?
SD457500 It would be great just to see brief close-ups of various bits of the loco, particularly the weathered bits. I can take screen-shots and use them as reference for my model weathering. Thanks!
You might want to take a trip out there asap yourself. Any nostalgia units left are extremely rare. I've been to Bensenville several tines over the last two years and, 99% of the units i saw were new or rebuilt with an altered look.
Same here, and it's still pulling pretty decent too. I wonder how much longer it'll last before CP repaints and rebuilds the last of the Soo 38s. Thanks for watching!
Soo Line still exists on paper as a legal, and stand alone company which CP owns. In terms of operations, it is pretty all CP these days. Up until a few years ago, Soo Line power in the area was quite common. Now there are only a handful of units in Soo paint still in operation.
I believe that Darrel is trying to tell us that he knows nothing about railroads or typing or how to have a complete thought. I suggest the rest of us watch these great videos and ignore the negativity.

Thank you for the kind words on the video! These roots-blown locomotives sound GREAT.
Those old 645 EMDs are music to my ears
You and me both! Imagine if there were two or three of these together screaming in run eight...
Thanks for uploading this video.
This is music to my ears.
Glad that you enjoyed it!! It was great to film; thanks for the comment, and watching.
4412 rolled through Duplainville crossing in Pewaukee WI the other day.
Really nice sounds on that engine. The best video for this.
That’s a sweet sound! 👍🏻👍🏻
This is the third time we’ve nearly met again. I had seen 4412 working this job but it was pulling a much shorter train at the time
Small world! Stop by and say hi if you see me. :) Thank you for watching!
I was still drunk in 1978. :) Thanks.
Ha ha ha, nice humor there. Thanks for watching!
I remember the SOO LINE in Michigan's Upper Pennsula. What ever happened to the SOO LINE in the Upper Pennsula?
Awesome switching footage.
Glad you enjoyed it!! Those older EMDs sound great getting a work out.
Great video, this is what I call REAL heritage.
Glad you enjoyed it, and this is TRUE heritage. Thanks for watching!
@@SD457500 You're welcome!
I've been seeing 4412 and 4402 quite a bit in Newport off of 7th avenue.
Thanks for watching! This the same job; lets hope the Soo power hangs around for a little while longer.

Thanks, will do! Anything specific you'd like to see?

@@struck2soon You got it, and I'll keep that in mind for the next video. Want roof top detail too?
SD457500 most definitely! That is the part of a model most people see. Cheers!

Would love to see a new paint job on the old SOO Line engines. Maybe a heritage unit? Grand Trunk as well.
Thanks for the comment! That would be a treat, and a sight to be had.
For some reason I can picture the SOO paint design on a ACe.
so 4-4-2020 and we STILL have soo units on patrol... no complaint outta me

Super video and catch
Thank you very much! Those older EMDs never get old.
Man EMD don’t smoke as much as GE and Alco does! And they switched it to used EMD 1010j?!!! What were they thinking!
Thanks for the comment, and watching! The older engines sound wonderful. EMD switched to the 1010 due to EPA requirements.
Does SOO LINE still exist as a railroad or does CP just use their engines and they are not a railroad anymore????

No dynamic brakes on this -2? Don't see the blister
Thanks for watching! That is correct; most of the older Soo units never had dynamic brakes on them.
I have a video of the Portland and western railroad and the engine was in full throttle with 14 cars and one engine the engine was a Gp38
Thanks for watching! It must have sounded good; those 38-2s make some good noise when they are getting a workout.
It’s a shame that 4412 and its brother 4402 were both transferred out of St. Paul
Where did they go?
@@alcopower5710 4412 went to Iowa, 4402 went to the middle of nowhere in Alberta
If you think I can be fool you are wong they went out in the 90s stop the BS and do real video and films
Excuse me? What are you trying to say?
