I've had a few West African friends and even roommates when I was in college, and saw very quickly that they can make great friends for me but the culture/lifestyle is incompatible for dating. However more Americans and Westerners need to understand the complexities of cultures in West Africa because there are a lot more "rules" and more rigid structure than what many of us are used to. The West African roommates I had when I was younger dated some Americans for a while but all eventually married within their ethnic groups. That seems to be what almost always happens, and I don't blame them, when your culture is so strong people tend to act within what's expected more often than not
