The New Hondas are not near as good as the old ones and they are way over priced. I have family that ownes a honda dealer and the mechanics there say the same thing.
We bought the smaller Recon used 2 yrs ago for $3k. It's a workhorse we use for dragging horse pastures/arena, spreading seed, moving mulch. Get the beefy Ohio Steel Pro swivel dump trailer. Lifesaver for moving/dumping mulch and irresponsibly giving joyrides at 30mph.🍻
From Maine here, bought the exact same model and color had it for over 2 months now been really enjoying it. Had hondas growing up, they lasted for years with minimal/basic maintenance. Great choice. Agree on the lights, will replace eventually as well.
Love what you have done with the home place. The Honda Forman is a tank. It's a work horse. I went with a side by side for driving in town. Keep up the awesome work.
Congrats on the new rig brother! ATV’s have really fallen out of favor but I love them. So much fun to ride and nothing can take a trail like the small wheelbase. A front rack will make it super handy. Enjoy it man!!!
I have a 2005 Rancher 350 ES which is not all that different then your current model other then fuel injection, engine displacement and the dashboard. I use it to haul and plow snow, it’s easy to work on, and will last a lifetime. Other than new CV axels at the end of 2023 and basic maintenance it’s all original. If it came with Maxxis tires then I don’t see them popping all that easy from basic woods use since they are highly rated. Here’s a great option for a 2” receiver. I’ve been using it for a few years now. I will put the model number below since TH-cam won’t allow the post with the link. KFI 101465 Winch Plow Mount , Black
Honda ATV's are great! I have a '02 250 Recon that just wont die, and my brother is still running a 2x4 '01 350 Rancher! I do have a Pioneer 500 SxS for around the house, but your right, the ATVs can go just about anywhere and the SxS can be limited to its overall size. I love the reliability of the SHAFT drive and a real Gear on Gear transmission. Harbor Freight 3500lbs winch is perfect for that size ATV, and the solid rear axle is awesome for trailers, the tongue weight doesn't affect the rear suspension like an independent rear. And I've moved a 18' Bayliner Boat across my yard on several occasions with that little 250.... they are stout little units! And I built my trailer for behind my Pioneer 500 from a Harbor Freight 4x8" trailer... Maybe a little big for that atv, but honestly its the perfect size for moving wood around the property...
My suggestion, personnel experience with my ATVs is to purchase a ATV bolt-on tongue adapter for your hitch. The adapter will create more distance between the machine and the trailer. Allowing you to back up or turn in tight places (wooded areas) and to prevent jackknifing. The adapter will also give you the option to add an adjustable trailer hitch to change the height or drop, to accommodate the height of the trailer or too add attachments.
Great purchase. Congratulations. I was blessed to get a Foreman in '23. Absolute beast of a machine. It's unbelievable where it will take you. It's worth every penny I paid for it.
I’ve been looking at ATVs and I really like the Foreman , it has differential locker and the headlight on the handlebars, and little bit wider stance and slightly larger frame than the rancher and of course the 518cc engine for a bit more power . And I want the electric power steering too . I think the foot shift is the way to go , and the solid axle is tough . But I’m Not sure how does it ride out on the trails with the solid axle ?
@NorthwoodsNomad Mine has independent rear suspension. I'm over 70 and didn't have any riding experience when I got it. Since then, I've learned that, if you hang on to it, in four-wheel drive, it'll pretty much go anywhere. I've locked the diff once cause I got hung up in the middle of a swamp and it crawled right out.
Congrats on the new purchase...can't go wrong with a Honda ATV! I own a 2006 Honda Foreman 500, 2WD, manual shift that I bought used in 2009. It was like new and the previous owner added SS wheels & Mud Lite tires. I have never needed 4WD with these tires and I have unknowingly ran one of the rears without air and never noticed. They're not the best solid surface tires but perform great in sand, dirt and mud. Maybe check into them?
Thanks a ton for including M&E Honda in your review!! If you look in the accessories catalog on Hondas website they have a relatively short but beefy 2 inch receiver. M&E also carries Honda and aftermarket winch and mounts!!
WOW & WOO HOO... Great walk around and video.. Honda should reach out 😁👍you Nailed it, Machine, Property and Electronics... Please stay safe on that new UNIT!🙏
Right there with you! A couple buddies and i recently decided to reclaim our youth and start riding again. I forgot how fun it is. Congrats on your new Honda!
@SpicerDesignsLLC I bought Harbor Freight's winch for mine. It has synthetic rope and a wireless remote. I've been pretty happy with it. Their light bars are pretty good too.
Look into a log arch. You skid one log at a time, but it might be beneficial. The other trailer I've looked into is a tandem articulating axle trailer. It helps in uneven terrain.
Yes, Honda is the best utility atv. I love my 2017 Rancher. I have a 2” hitch and it works great! Mine is IRS; which makes for a more comfortable ride but I don’t think it makes a difference for towing. I also have a small 5’ x 6’ trailer which hauls just about anything but isn’t really for off-road use. Good choice… you’re gonna really like it even years from now.
I'm a firm believer that the best atv would have to be mission specific. I always thought that the Polaris were the best , I rented just about every brand available and had my mind made up. Until one of my trips, I had the wife with me, and we rented two different machines, it wasn't that my wife wanted her own ride no she actually wanted to ride two up, that made the direction of our choice go to a completely different direction. Now I believe that we've found the best for our missions. I will tell you that the wench is a necessity that will save your butt on the trail, I have a much heavier rear axle with the hitch options, storage is a must and it sounds like a great idea with the Milwaukee boxes, I use mine for ice fishing so my storage needs are different along with hand warmers and windshield that is detachable for the summer months. Lights are always a issue, I have the projector style and have found them to be sufficient for my needs but I've thought that maybe a spotlight would be handy. Now trailer or wagon, work specific again, I use one for hauling heavier stuff and one for our camping stuff, one can trail behind our truck and one has to be trailered , the wagon axles don't like highway speeds. I also use my quad to tow my 16 foot boat trailer loaded, and a kayak trailer, and another trailer for horse feed. I do have more hp than you but that all came with testing that many machines and don't sell the electronic options short they have their uses. The same plug-in for our heated suit can be used for the fish finder or GPS unit. For those of us that like our Quads, the only difference between the side by side is we throw our leg over the top. You will have plenty of use for it.
I think you should make the trailer. It would be good content. I have the independent suspension version and I put the receiver hitch on it with a rear winch mounted on it. Mainly so it can lift me out of my wheelchair so I can get on it. I just put the synthetic line on my front winch and it was kinda a pain. Mine is a 2013 model with any luck they made it easier but I doubt it. Fuel injection is great absolutely no issues with that. My only issue has been with the batteries but I don’t ride it much. I put 8 ply tires on it immediately after buying mine. 12 years and I’ve never had to add any air to them. I use mine primarily for pushing snow in the winter time. Overall great machines
"Best" is subjective based on use case. But for farm and work purposes, Honda 4x4 quads are the best. I got a 2022 Rubicon and my old back really appreciates that IRS. Perfect for hauling a few bales of hay or getting a little trailer of firewood out of woods where side by sides can't fit. I, also, appreciate the engineering on a Honda. Everything is easy to get to, so maintenance is simple.
Bought Honda ATV 2 years ago for the horse farm. Great MACHINE. I basically have used Honda small engines for all my essential “tools”…. Log splitter, power washer, push mowers, water trailer, etc. C an’t beat ‘em. Light upgrade is a must. Mine suck as well.
Get a rifle holder for the rack/ great for shovels Ect. I’ve got a 2002 Artic Cat base model and the tires haven’t punctured, it’s a forest machine. EPS is essential if you are getting older. Have fun!
i had a side by side when a bunch of my buddies used to go rideing every weekend then things changed some sold them . i'am in to hunting and fishing i found out real quick that you can;t get in to some places you need to go to get a deer out so i sold mine . i got a 2020 suzuki kingquad 500 four wheeldrive i bought it brand new off the show room floor . i love not give me any trouble at all .....
Hot tip. Do one light bar that has a flood light design, you can get some decent curved ones these days for better spread. And one long-range pencil type spot light above or below it.
Your boy was pretty proud of that rawhide. Lol. ATV (New) prices have not gone up very much. I have a 20 year old Polaris that I paid over 5K back in 04'.
Don’t get mad at me for giving a little piece of advice, but make sure you’re in the right gear for what’s ahead of you. You never want to keep on gas when you do your shifting that driveshaft will chew the shaft on the transmission up pretty good then you’ll have a seal around the transmission shaft too replace but that is an excellent purchase. Nothing beats a Honda. I have two sportsman’s of my own only because at the time I couldn’t get the Honda’s I wanted in time Lol happy trails buddy. Be safe. enjoyed that video.!!!
All good. I used to race motocross back in my early 20’s. Done a lot of riding. But like any machine you still have to get used to it. I do let off when i shift its just really quick and may not be able to notice it. I probably should slow it down a bit though, its not a race bike.
I put 4 new ITP rims on my 2003 Trx350 with 25x10x12 Terrabite 8 ply, DOT approved tires. Love them. Also, the wheels being all the same size allow you to do standard rotations for longevity - (the fronts wear much faster than the rears).
I'm 48 years old, and I still ride a 2001 500 Honda Rubicon. Keep up with the service right, and that atv will last forever. The factory rear hitch works fine as long as you stay in the factory spec weight limits.
All of Hondas newer ATV's and SxS's are shaft drive. We are looking a SxS's for our rural property in TN and have done research on every manufacturer. Everyone else is using belt drive. They're easy enough to change out but, inevitably, you'll blow a belt in the field then it's a pain in the ass to do. The shaft drive is pretty much bullet proof and that's what we're going with. The Honda Talon, Nice machine...(machine). Ride safe brother.
I probably put about 3-4k km on my fathers Honda 520 Rubicon and while it was a fantastic machine, it just lacked the speed and power I was looking for so when I bought my own I went with a Can Am Outlander 700XT which is their new single engine line. It's everything the Honda was but better and now I don't always have to be at the back of the pack.
I’ve been riding/abusing my Honda Rancher since 2004. It is 100% solid. It survived three teenagers and their friends abusing it. I’ve taken it lots of places it shouldn’t go, and it’s always got me home. 😁
Hi, I have a 2017 Rancher 420 & the power steering just shit the bed. A month ago the back brakes seized up. Pretty disappointed with Honda. I take good care of the Rancher and it usually takes good care of me. I hope after spending 2K that it will be more dependable.
Everybody needs an ATV if you have a little bit of property but if it is only for property use I recommend getting the smallest ATV you can get Like a 300 or 400 That's just my opinion. The more nimble the better.
You will like the fuel economy with the gear drive as well since the motor isn't always revving to engage the belt drive. I have a 10 rancher and my buddy has 08 650 brute force and when we ride he always pumps exactly twice as much fuel as I do. On a mellow trail ride I can get 36 mpg's.
KS: Wow! To follow the rules, 30 lbs on the hitch kinda makes it seem like it's gonna be a wagon and not a trailer, which would take extra talent to back up! And, it would need to be super light if you want any of the 850 lbs left for actual load. Might be better to use you beefier tractor for the real hauling when the ground is dry or frozen. Use the Honda for hauling the tent and campfire wood 😉 and for other fun stuff. Thanks for the video. It's great to know that trued and true basic mechanical (non-software) mechanisms are still available! Have fun! Wheeeee 🤪
I found a rancher back when my family was young and money was tight. 2002 rancher with 60 miles on it for 2500 ! Wife gave me the side eye but I bought it anyhow. I’ve had it 20 plus years and it’s one of the best buys I’ve ever made. Dragged two big bucks with it this year and many over the years. Ice fish with it every winter. I maintain it yearly and it’s never let me down ever. I put a light bar on it and keep startron in my gas tank.
Great Machine buddy. Can’t go wrong with a Honda I have a Brute force 750 (beefy) cow-a-sockie lol but always a fan of Honda with there solid rear axle ps got my hoodie n t-shirt n absolutely love them the fitment and quality are amazing def recommend n will buy again
I'm not sure why you'd what to put a wench on the front. Just let her ride on the top of the MACHINE. Neighbor Doug has a cart for you. I do love the variety of your channel.
Kyle, I like it. also the additional upgrades ya wanna do, ...... umm,...this winter? Well, I gotta ask, hows the upgrades to the,....'log splitter' coming along?🤔😂 (just bustin stones!) Stay healthy, enjoy life yer gonna have to purchase another ATV, in a few years, (juice box girls are getting older!)
@@SpicerDesignsLLC yer a busy man, as I commented a while back.... Family first Bud! Stay healthy and enjoy life. We'll, ...the Mrs. is calling me, something about the Christmas decorations in the attic....gotta go!
as far as tires and wheels goes stay with your stock wheels but get better tires once those factory tires wear out and stay with factory sizes too anytime ya try to go bigger it's gonna kill your power so it's best to stick the factory sizes which btw there's several different choices in tires in those sizes
We have ran Honda atvs since they came out. Bid red 3 wheelers to the Rincon. No doubt they are the toughest, and longest lasting atvs made on this planet. Don’t know what the martians are running but I figure if they ever get a Honda, they will run Hondas too
Honda dealership doesn't tell you this, but the honda fourwheelers are also considered boats. They will go through ponds and lakes. The engine oil is optional. Thats just a joke. These machines are awesome!
At least you're smart with the foot shift The electronic ones always break eventually even though they're pretty easy fix. I can't stand how the automatic Honda's shifts seem like something's broken But that's just the way it is especially when it's cold.
I says to myself before clicking "this better be a honda or yamaha!" Noice. I like the colour too. I traded my atv for a yamaha rhino sxs. with kids Im looking for a used honda pioneer 700-4
Here's an Amazon Affiliate link for the Milwaukee Packout stuff I was talking about in the video: amzn.to/4fhv3AY
Cool quad! Good to see the plug for M&E Honda. I grew up near them and bought my Honda Pioneer 700-4 from them a few years ago.
They seem to have a great reputation
Great video and nice Honda
I’ve got the 2024 model in green with ES I’ve had zero issues with it because it’s a Great Machine
Congratulations on the new MACHINE! We've had our Honda Foreman for over 20 years now. They are built to last!
The New Hondas are not near as good as the old ones and they are way over priced. I have family that ownes a honda dealer and the mechanics there say the same thing.
Keep up the videos. Love the stright forward approach! Love my Honda Pioneer!
Congratulations sir. I have a 2022 Rancher 4x4 foot shift and solid rear axle. I love it. Stay on top of your maintenance and it'll serve you well.

Allowing you to back up or turn in tight places (wooded areas) and to prevent jackknifing. Holy Shnikeys that drone shot at the beginning, your pond is shaped like the Michigan Mitt😅
I’ve been riding/abusing my Honda Rancher since 2004. It is 100% solid. It survived three teenagers and their friends abusing it. I’ve taken it lots of places it shouldn’t go, and it’s always got me home. 😁
Thats good to hear. Thanks for sharing
Hi, I have a 2017 Rancher 420 & the power steering just shit the bed. A month ago the back brakes seized up. Pretty disappointed with Honda. I take good care of the Rancher and it usually takes good care of me. I hope after spending 2K that it will be more dependable.
Whoa….that opening fly over, thought it was New Jersey!
Ya no kidding.
Never thought about that. Good point
Have fun! Wheeeee 🤪
Ya not much tow capacity but thats to be expected on such a small machine. Should work great for hauling rounds out of the woods though.
@@miked8227 thats awesome. Been getting a lot of comments like this which is great to hear. Thanks for sharing Mike!
Can confirm these are tanks. I ride the wife’s like it’s a Banshee and it is a blast.
Straight axle is perfect for duals!
Glad you liked the goods. Im really happy with them. Ill have some more designs coming
There's cupholders available for it. They fit by removing door from the storage compartment on the left front fender.
I think alot of manufacturer's have a boat load of those old halogen lights, every base model, widget whatever ,gets those. 😅😮😅
I have a 22 year old Honda with zero issues and original tires.
I don't care what the world thinks. My Honda atvs have always been awesome! They have always been able to do the job.
Dang those hold their value. Great as an owner, a real pain if you looking for a used one like I am.
Awesome ATV ! Kyle what happened to the log splitter project?? Did I miss it ? Been looking forward to it.
Its coming soon. Im trying to get caught up. Sorry to keep dragging that project out. Starlink, welding cart, splitter.
You can’t go wrong with Yamaha or Honda atv’s. Not as exciting as other brands but both are bulletproof
I'm not sure why you'd what to put a wench on the front. Just let her ride on the top of the MACHINE. Neighbor Doug has a cart for you. I do love the variety of your channel.
Liking the Rancher. Any chance they make a snow plow for it?
Im sure they do
Kyle, I like it. also the additional upgrades ya wanna do, ...... umm,...this winter? Well, I gotta ask, hows the upgrades to the,....'log splitter' coming along?🤔😂 (just bustin stones!) Stay healthy, enjoy life yer gonna have to purchase another ATV, in a few years, (juice box girls are getting older!)
Hah! I know i know. Im trying, i promise. Should be working on it in January for sure
@@SpicerDesignsLLC yer a busy man, as I commented a while back.... Family first Bud! Stay healthy and enjoy life. We'll, ...the Mrs. is calling me, something about the Christmas decorations in the attic....gotta go!
Looks like a solid MACHINE! Lol
as far as tires and wheels goes stay with your stock wheels but get better tires once those factory tires wear out and stay with factory sizes too anytime ya try to go bigger it's gonna kill your power so it's best to stick the factory sizes which btw there's several different choices in tires in those sizes
We have ran Honda atvs since they came out. Bid red 3 wheelers to the Rincon. No doubt they are the toughest, and longest lasting atvs made on this planet. Don’t know what the martians are running but I figure if they ever get a Honda, they will run Hondas too
Hah! They’re definitely running Hondas. Thanks for sharing!
M&E Honda is like 1 mile from my house!
Honda dealership doesn't tell you this, but the honda fourwheelers are also considered boats. They will go through ponds and lakes. The engine oil is optional. Thats just a joke. These machines are awesome!
Good thing i read the last part of the comment. I was about to drive it in the pond
At least you're smart with the foot shift The electronic ones always break eventually even though they're pretty easy fix. I can't stand how the automatic Honda's shifts seem like something's broken But that's just the way it is especially when it's cold.
@@bigjay6743 hah! Am i dumb about everything else?
I would put a light bar on the front and be done with it.
Milwaukee and Honda, hands down, best on the market. Just my opinion.
Look into the LogRite line of trailers.
A helmet? We get brain damage like real men out here!! Awesome video, I did not realize they made that in the smaller cc version.
The helmet was for the video only. Hah! I dont get crazy on it so its not really necessary.
I follow a guy who’s 6’-5” 😂 who has a trailer and a one-eyed guy…. Wow they do get expensive.
I says to myself before clicking "this better be a honda or yamaha!" Noice. I like the colour too. I traded my atv for a yamaha rhino sxs. with kids Im looking for a used honda pioneer 700-4
4 wheelers are great for keeping the stone driveway aerated...machine
Hah! They are. My driveway looks great. Looks wider now too
Honda rancher 👌
WD loves them, and he isn't easy on them. Are they the hilux of atv's
A suggestion for a cart. Get one with tandem wheels, you wont regret it.
Good morning
Why don't you fabricate a custom trailer? That would be an awesome project!
I plan on rebuilding that little red piece of crap trailer, but its a little wide. Just too much to do right now.
Noo, REALLY!!!!@@SpicerDesignsLLC
I wish it was that cheap. Try double that price here in Canada. Hell the total tax is 13 percent.
@@Bailey463 yikes. Can you come to the US and buy one or will they not let you bring it in?
@ maybe but our dollar exchange is shit right now. plus customs will still get ya on the tax .
Nice property. How big is your slice of earth?
Thank you! Still a lot of work to do but we love it here. Were on 10 acres
MACHINE!!!!!
Sounds like you should have started with a Grizzly 700 or KQ 750.
The rancher is perfect for me.
