Great project, love these, you could also stuff them with lavender to hang on a coat hangar. I might make some as memory chickens from my late Father's shirts ❤️
I cannot believe how simple these were to make! And thank you for the history and showing us how to string them together. This is a fun project I can make with my granddaughter as I'm trying to gently get her into sewing.
everyone that sees my prosperity hens wants one... I'm having so much fun putting these together... Thank you Thank you Thank you... you're a joy to watch
Dear Nikkie. I must say: you have completely changed my sewing life!! Starting with the improv houses and the wonky blocks, we move on to these chickens…😍 You are such a wonderful teacher and the provider of so much inspiration! Thank you for making this happen. Wishing you all the prosperity and blessings for you and your family from the Netherlands.
Love the chickens! Thank you so much for the tutorial. This would make a great little afternoon project for our patchwork group. When my machine warns me that the bobbin is ready to run out of thread I find myself sewing quicker before it runs out! Completely illogical but I still subconsciously do it. Yiu have to laugh! Best wishes, Diana xxx (from the UK)
I made the chickens and I love them. I used the polyester stuffing and they look and hang fine and very easy to push needle and jute through. Did not have to clip the hole. I’m glad I watched you first because I put the beads in a bowl. Ha!!! Thanks for the tutorial😊
Oh, I need to make these for my sister. She thinks she wants real chickens. Everyone keeps telling her they are a lot of work and our neighborhood wildlife would get a tasty meal! She has some chicken decor in her kitchen. Thanks for sharing!
I was playing thread chicken today! Sewing with my left hand on the seam and the right hand holding the last bit of thread so I knew when it was about to run out. Finished with 6" left - yay I won 😂
When I first started listening to quilting video, Sew Becca talked about "Winning at Bobbin Chicken" then someone called leaders "Hairy Larrys" can't remember who. 😂
Great job showing us this, and the little history of the meaning behind them. I am a senior, but had never seen these until fairly recently. I love chickens and have lots of scraps!❤ thank you I am enjoying your vlogs very much, you explain things very well, and you have a sweet personality!
These are from India. Very commonly sold . Those mirrored fabrics and embroidered ones is a give. We hang around doors. Not 1940s. Love all your tutorials. Am starting kids sewing classes inspired by you. And i am getting good response. I am mainly a quilter ❤
I've always loved real chickens, now I don't have to feed them and clean out the coop. I' m making enough chickens for everyone in my family. Great for using up my leftover charm pack squares. They are so cute. Thank you
My kitchen is done in roosters and a few hens. I have some really cool large paper beads I created and love, but could never quite figure out what to do with. Lol. Prosperity chickens and paper beads it is! I’ve never heard of prosperity hens before, but I just like chickens in general. This is such a simple idea. Thank you!
I love these little prosperity hens! A great project for using up scraps. Will be making some to go on my sister in laws charity stall. She raises money for Parkinson’s UK Thanks for sharing. Greetings from the UK❤️🇬🇧
Wow 🤩 Thank you so much for your video I Purchased the pattern Going to make them with a couple of friends I have a bout 10 chickens in my backyard ❤❤❤
This is so adorable! I just cut up some leftover batting into stuffing size, and that would be a perfect way to use it up. Thanks for taking the time to make this wonderful tutorial.
These are so stinkin cute.i started mine earlier tonight...its now passed midnight..and cant bring myself to put it all away and finish it tomorrow...i love this pattern. So easy! Thank you... very much!❤
I just inherited 6 used fiber filled pillows... Going to make fish instead to suit a theme. I think half quarters would be a good source of you didn't have scraps
Love the history of the prosperity chickens. They are so fun and I’m going to make some for gifts and housewarming gifts. I’m going to use small bells between the chickens. Thank you for sharing. Your chickens turned out adorable.
This is so adorable, and thank you for letting us know the meaning of those chicken hangers. I ordered a lot of 5 inch squares, so I have plenty of fabric to make chickens. I think a lot of the family will get those chickens for Christmas.
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create all those prosperity chickens, I think they’re super cute and adorable too. I’m definitely going to try this out. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤❤
I have a set of prosperity chickens from India that I got from my mom when I first moved into my house. I have them by my window in my living room because I have cats (if that was on my door, it’d be destroyed by now because cats+bells=instant destruction). I’ve been wanting to make some for my family and now that I have the beads and bells (if you have a link for the bells, that would help too, since they’re not easy to find) it is going to happen! Thanks for the tutorial!
Dear Nikki, thank you so much for giving us this gift !! I am traveling to visit old friends and was looking for a home made gifts to bring 9 friends. This is the perfect gift ! Do you think that the 5" would be too large ? I have so many cute charm packs to use. I immediately purchased the yute, needles, beads and bells (also bought gingham ribbon to place a little bow on the bell). I am so excited cuz this is a lot easier than making them each one of your grandma dolls (I also bought those patterns and clothes). I do own a new sewing machine in the box 😳however I do also have a Featherweight that I might try - Thanks for all of your tips !!!!
I've often wondered how these chickens were made and now I know! I have the fabric, wooden beads, some round bells (from xmas) and a long needle. Just need to find the time - thanks for inspiring me to have a go 🤩
Hi Nikki, the chickens are so cute and a great project to use scrap fabric. I think when I make mine, I will have the top chicken larger (mama hen) and then smaller ones underneath (chickadees). Thanks for the tutorial.
I have one of these from world market a few years ago, but your's are much cuter. I'm going to have to make one with fabrics that give me a happy memory of past made treasures.
Great project, love these, you could also stuff them with lavender to hang on a coat hangar. I might make some as memory chickens from my late Father's shirts ❤️
I did it babe❣️ I’m a real real non sewing beginner and I just made my hens. So stinkin proud. Ty again for sharing.
Way to go! 🙌🏻
I cannot believe how simple these were to make! And thank you for the history and showing us how to string them together. This is a fun project I can make with my granddaughter as I'm trying to gently get her into sewing.
Honestly, when I finally inspected it, I couldn’t believe it was just squares lol 😂
Debbi here~I am also trying to gently nurture my granddaughter into sewing! I think I will try this with her also!
I won my thread chicken a few days ago, right down to about 3/4" of thread left. YAY 😅
Woohoo! 🎉🐓🧵
These chickens are truly adorable. You’ve given me so many sewing ideas. Now I’m off to sew hens! 🐓❤🐓

Cute pattern. Finally I have a use for my bits of cotton batting that I save.
I luv this video. I’m making some now. Getting a bell is harder than chickens to make. Lol.

Haha perfect!
These are the cutest! 🐓 I love everything you make.
I just inherited 6 used fiber filled pillows... Going to make fish instead to suit a theme. I think half quarters would be a good source of you didn't have scraps
Half of a fat quarter which is generally the 18 x 21 size, is what’s called a fat eighth. They are generally 9“ x 21“. Happy sewing your fish!
Love the history of the prosperity chickens. They are so fun and I’m going to make some for gifts and housewarming gifts. I’m going to use small bells between the chickens. Thank you for sharing. Your chickens turned out adorable.
Love the hens. I’m a handwork person so I think I’ll do these sans sewing machine while I watch tv. Thanks!!!!
I've got lots of Tilda scraps that would make some pretty chooks 💕

Dear Nikki, thank you so much for giving us this gift !! I am traveling to visit old friends and was looking for a home made gifts to bring 9 friends. This is the perfect gift ! I think 5” will be just fine!

I've often wondered how these chickens were made and now I know! I have the fabric, wooden beads, some round bells (from xmas) and a long needle. Just need to find the time - thanks for inspiring me to have a go 🤩
These look soo cute! Vintage! Planning on making several for Christmas ❤ thank you
Love these!!
I love these hens! They will be my weekend project. And I love your videos. The beads rolling around makes me feel so understood!!
Thank you for the instructions 🌸 They are so adorable 👍👏
Hi Nikki, the chickens are so cute and a great project to use scrap fabric. I think when I make mine, I will have the top chicken larger (mama hen) and then smaller ones underneath (chickadees). Thanks for the tutorial.
That’s such a cute idea 💕
I love your Thread Chicken. I crochet and play yarn chicken more than I should. Great tutorial! Thank you for sharing!
Awesome. Sorry about laughing at the bead frustration. The chickens are so much fun. Thanks!
I have always loved these but never thought of making my own! Thank you.
For the stringing of the birds and beads, set up on a towel to minimize misbehaving beads rolling off the table❤
Great idea
Love this! They are so charming and the 'thread chicken' is delightful. I love your art!
Thank you so much. I will give this a try. To help with the beads, putting them on a cookie sheet would help.
Great tutorial! Thanks so much! I'm going to make these for my best friends Christmas present! Love them!
They also symbolize abundance, fertility, and good luck in Indian culture
I have one of these from world market a few years ago, but your's are much cuter. I'm going to have to make one with fabrics that give me a happy memory of past made treasures.
That’s such a good idea 🤗
I love this channel. It's my happy place and I can't wait to try this!
