The Wheeler Upper Receiver Rod is similar to the Geissele reaction rod and the Midwest Industries upper receiver rod in that it interfaces with the chamber of the barrel allowing you to tighten and loosen barrel nuts. It also has a sail on it like the MI rod. Where it differs, is that the Wheeler rod actually locks into the chamber whereas the other two just sit in the chamber. The Wheeler rod also has an alignment rod for timing the barrel nut for your gas tube. Lastly, while the other two are made of steel, the Wheeler rod has an aluminum body with the star part that locks into the chamber being steel. I do an overview of the Wheeler rod in this video: th-cam.com/video/L9Q7Pvo3iT0/w-d-xo.html Thank you for the comment
Is it worth getting this one over the Midwest or the real avid one? The wheeler is a bit cheaper and I'm not gunsmith but I want to be able to do something when I want
Is this tool steel like the G Reaction Rod or the Midwest Industries Upper Receiver Rod? Now that I have a MI URR I don’t think I can see myself ever doing upper receiver work without it again.
The body is aluminum, they don't say what kinda of aluminum so im going to assume 6061. The part that interfaces with the barrel extension is steel, again idk what kind. Despite the potential draw back of and aluminum body, it's still a significant improvement over other upper mounting fixtures like the clam shell or upper vise blocks. The biggest feature is that it locks the barrel into the upper as it grabs the inside of the barrel extension like a bolt in battery would. It does have the convenience of the integrated barrel nut alignment rod. I cannot speak to longevity at this time, as I have not used it as much as my MI URR. But it is a solid design and will be going in my portable armorers kit. I will probably do a video showing that
Seems a lot nicer than the older plastic clam shells for upper receivers, what is the price difference between the two? Also, is there any real benefit to the bar over the clamshell if you already have it? Like the shorter intro too btw, keep up the great videos!
The difference between the two is about $35. Its definitely worth it to go with the rod design over the clam shell. To me, the biggest difference in convenience and you don't take a chance on damaging the index pin and cut out for it because it locks the barrel and receiver in the same plane. I might do a video talking about the differences
so this is like a reaction rod and allows you to tighten barrel nut? and use alignment tool at same time?

Thank you for the comment
Is this steel or aluminum

Great video! I’ve been wanting to get that jig. Think I’m gonna take the plunge soon
Thanks man, im glad you like the video. If you do get the upper receiver rod, let me know what you think of it

I was in the same boat I just went with the wheeler. I think it will last for the few uppers I plan on assembling.

Thanks for posting man! You think this holds up ok on torquing down a barrel nut?
Nice
that's all?
