Seems a bit odd, I know. But actually holding the mp28 with a underhanded grip was a huge advantage shooting from the kneeling position. By holding their hand under the mag, they can rest their elbow on their knee when kneeling. This results in improved accuracy.

That was the standard way of holding it to prevent as much recoil as possible.
Another reason is that they couldn’t hold the barrel bc they’d burn their hand so yes your right!

Dear downed players. Please skip revive if your surrounded by enemies. I'm tired of going for revives and I see enemies aiming at you, waiting for someone like me to come along and also die. Regards, Medic

Piss taking aside though, yeah if there is like 3+ enemies and the medic appears to be solo you should probably back off but if there is only one or two or the medic is close with a squad of friendlies then a degree of competency is expected (enough to handle 1 or 2 players). Seen way too many medics die to one guy with a pistol.

I would recommend you to just ignore some players it’s hard to do that as a dedicated medic but it’ll save you in the long run.

I miss semi-automatic rifles in this class.
@New text document. They are, but I got used to play as a medium-range-sniper-medic so much in BF1 with the Mondragón that it feels weird.

thats because you miss playing a OP class.... dmg output NEEDS to be limited with the healing ability of the medic class

The way the soldier holds the MP28 is actually accurate, as most soldier held it that way in WW2. There are some images of soldiers holding it that way, and if you try it you'll find it surprisingly comfortable and natural

I can't imagine, just image yourself holding a bicycle that way. Comfortable? Nope. No one holds it that way. Dice only did this to provide something "new" and odd in Battlefield.
You have to realise that the way soldiers use the SMG's in real life is nothing like we use them in BF5. Soldiers dont run non stop run and gunning every enemy they see in super close CQC. That might be a comfortable position for someone whos more stationary, but if you keep running around that's not a comfortable way to hold it. Just my 2 cents
Jack I beg you, use your power and influence to urge Dice not to change the TTK but rather fix the glitches surrounding TTD. I really think that changing it wouldn't be good for the game. Westie already made a video about it, if you do one I'm sure it will get someone's attention. Anyway thanks for the awesome content.

Sometimes I get 6-8 shot kills with full auto guns from the assault class at med range, so I wouldn’t mind some tweaking.

For me it's ok, the SMG are really helpful when I revive teammates in flags, maybe 1 or 2 semiautomatic rifle can help but I'm ok for now

i actually like to have the way it is now much more.... it sucked to only have rifles in the medicv class.
now you can actually defend yourself if you try to revive somebody and an enemy is close range... and if the enemys are far away jsut pop a smoke :D

Thank you, Jack! I needed this video! Been struggling with the new way the medic is set up.
When you were talking about the MP28 and how it’s held, it reminded me about a story my great grandfather told me when he was in the Royal Engineers. He said that they would hold the Sten gun that way because if you held it like a normal gun, you could get your fingers taken off by the ejector (thing that shoots bullet casings out)
Ben Hodgin I shot the stem with my hand over the mag and that wasn’t a worry for me. Unless the normal grip is holding the bottom of the barrel/ receiver area.

The MP28 was held that way because you can pull it back into your shoulder to maintain control over it when firing. If it’s held the way the MP18 was, you tend to pull the weapon upwards instead of in your shoulder pocket. I had the luxury of shooting a Sten before and I held it the way the animation shows for the MP28 and it’s insanely comfortable.

Just a little note on the MP40,
I've noticed the bottom left (recoil buffer) feels alot better vs the horizontal decrease. Makes the gun feel like it has damn near zero recoil up or to the sides, alternatively going full hip fire spec is also really Awesome on it. Makes the hip fire assignments alot easier. Great video man, keep em coming! Any plans on medic tips vid? Currently my favorite class mainly because of the challenges due to the weak guns.
BFV has 99 problems but ttk ain't one.
The MP18 (the MP28 is basically an MP18, just with a semi-auto option) was mostly held in 2 ways: Like this mainly when crouching (or when there is somewhere to rest on) so you could rest our elbow on your leg that is sticking up (or anywhere you can rest it otherwhis), or when from underneath the barrel like the STEN.

the mp28 weird grip would help with recoil allowing you to pull the front down rather than using your wrist at a angle, it would also of allowed you to keep your mag's facing down allowing water to drain out and less dirt to get in improving reliability
As a medic I run into the field regardless if there's a tank nearby with or without smoke I'll always have you're back- medic joe

Ive spent most of my time as medic because most medic don't know how to use smoke, revive and support their team as back up but these guns are so ass I'm ready to give up on this class
Same, at least the sten is really satisfying when you land those headshots
i feel like the sten is the only semi viable weapon, but still gets dominated close range by assault and support class
I think the sten and mp40 are really good, but I feel you about the medic choice. No one knows how to use them so I say screw it, I'll do it myself haha

Great video. Appreciate your input. I'm a big fan of the SMGs in this game, even if they are a challenge sometimes to use against other weapons. Like you said, it's all about play style for the medic & playing to each weapons strength. My two favorites are the STEN & the Tommy Gun. They offer a variety of play styles for me, both aggressive or defensive. Honestly I just really enjoy the sounds & animations they have on screen as well.
I look forward to seeing your thoughts on the other weapons in the game.

the mp40 needs a buff, the rate of fire is low and the accuracy is quite poor beyond about 20m

Fully specialized the MP40 is quite good at close and medium range
I think they should simply buff the minimum damage up to 15 and maybe just slightly decrease the recoil so its better at range since the spread is actually quite decent

I agree as well, my main thing with it is I’ve died to a Sten close range even if I’ve gotten the first shot too many times to count now. They need to do something that would differentiate the two. They’re practically the same weapon but they look different
Even in World War One the mp18 was actually held the way the mp28 is in battlefield 5, it was just incorrectly held in bf1

That is actually the historically correct way to hold the MP18/MP28/etc. They were commonly held hand under the magazine well and at least in WWI taught to fire from the knee.
I really love the medic class,its wonderful but they have to work to upgrade a little bit the SMG's. I love being a medic!

Suomi kp should have drum mag
It did during the war. But a drum mag is a complicated bit of gear and requires alot of maintenace and it is difficult and expensive to produce. The Finns had the issue of having enough ammo but not enough round drum magazines for the Suomi. Because of the already mentioned issues that came with a drum magazine.

Yeah. Surprising oversight by DICE. I can see them patching it in though.
Be nice if the increased ammo gave you the drum mag. rate of fire was faster but yep it is a game. Imagine if the player shouted perkele or saatana or something when you used it.

The class might feel a bit less powered at first, but give it some time. It's also a class where you're going to level up the quickest. DICE also improved SMG damage and accuracy a bit to make it feel less cumbersome. If you're on a squad with another medic, sky is the limit. I do miss the long range rifles, though. It's like DICE switched the weapons of Medic and Assault from BF1 to BFV.

Sten or the MP40 for close to medium ranges;
the MP20 for close range;
the suomi for rushing player style;
and the Tommy Gun to feel like Al Capone?

I love the MP40 maxed out honestly, good hip fire and decent at mid range.

@@izzyk2950 Yah, it looks like I'll be sticking with the Sten till I unlock the MP40. I need range, maybe there will be attachments that will allow that for the Sten. I couldn't stand the other guns from the beta. Accuracy over fire rate. This isn't cod after all ;) lol

This is excellent comparison info on the assault class weapons. Compared to the other class of weapons its very difficult to rez people since you're typically over powered by everyone else at medium to long range. If I can I will pick up a recon sniper rifle from downed enemies when playing medic. It's super fun but all I really want is a smidge more damage for the slow firing SMGs.
GentleBen it’s difficult actively touch someone and revive them (up close and personal)... because you’re not able to deal with people at range is you’re complaint right?
You’re a fucking medic. Your job has nothing to do with those ranges. Your priority should be picking people up and keeping them alive and DICE give you the tools to be even a remotely competent medic right off the bat with a needle and a smoke launcher. Give them an AR or any weapon that can deal damage that those ranges effectively and the vast majority of medics forget their role in the team.
This way, medics, can stay alive by being decent up close if they’re rushed while reviving or pushing to get the revive... and the better players will be able to get those weapon’s ranges out to at least medium range (if you can’t then that’s not on DICE).

Its definitely possible to slay as a medic. You just have to understand your limitations and powers. Play with smoke grenades & the smoke rifle. They allow you to close the range on enemies.

I like the Thompson with the 50 rd drum with less horizontal recoil and a hipfire bonus at the end. Great for flanking

Another excellent vid Jack love it! Could you do a vid on a suggested strategy to take on the assignments from the start? I find the grind to unlock all the perks really taxing and a clearer approach might help me out :) Perhaps something about what guns help achieve certain tasks better! Cheers mate

Ari Saman actually, not a lot of soldiers use the 50 round Drum magazine, because of increased weight, and noise. But some people still used it.
Its not about history, it is simply more efficient with 50 bullets, as is the suomi.

I use the mp40 , got it all gold its my baby. But it needs a buff , it was better in the beta. They need to nerf the KE7 freaking OP as hell. And jack please tell Dice not to change the TTK its really good , if they change it itll ruin the experience..WE ONLY NEED THE TTD and GLITCHES FIXED!

No one's gonna use the bayonet. They need to change that perk on the trees. Who would select that over increased accuracy?
A iron sighted sniper maybe , not going for long distances you can do away with it.
Tried to use it in beta for Lee-Enfield. It is completely joke. With current TTK you will end being killed even with pistol by time you come close to the enemy. Even returned strafing from pre-nerfed BF1`s charge cant help.
Had a few situations where I've shoveled people that I probably could have bayonetted them instead, but generally no it's not something I'd try and get kills with.

being I already have 568 bayonet kills in Bf5, I would say I use it.
The Suomi is my favorite gun in the game hands down. Extended magazine just shreds everything. I also like how you can kinda make it look like a modern MP5.
I hated the Mp28 at first but once I unlocked a few specs I really started to enjoy it. It seems to get better burst shots than other smgs.

I've been a medic in every Battlefield. I'm always one of the most active medics in a battle. However, in this game, I just outright refuse. I just can't stand using SMG's for this class. Man, do I miss all-kit weapons...

I feel you, man. I've always been a medic, but I absolutely hate SMGs. Medics are the only class without another weapon type option. Please give back the Semi-Auto rifles!

@@Rcurran13 unlimited heals are OP as fuck (the main reason why you want to play medic class), SMGs are viable at all relevant ranges (just slightly harder to use than ARs at long ranges)
if you want more fire power, play assault ffs
Just by trying it if you hold the MP28 like they do in the game, you can feel your arm flexing way more than if it was reversed, the arm being closer to the body rather than having the elbow in the open. This would probably help in controlling recoil and weapon movement when firing.

Suomi when upgraded properly is by far the best gun for medics and one of the best in the game. Long range is no problem with right upgrades

No problem at long range? Even with 50 mag and all recoil upgrades that thing tends to kick in random horizontal directions and messes up your aim. Do you switch to single fire or is it aim assist on consoles?

If you watch the Forgotten Weapons video on the MP28 I believe he mentions the reverse grip on the mag well. Was pleasantly surprised DICE picked up on that trivia.

I really enjoy the tommy gun, and like yourself Jack, i prefer regular iron sights because it gives you that iconic feel to it. Though i stuck with it through with a mix of hip fire and the drum mag, it gives me the capone feel

Kills shouldn’t bleed enemy tickets in conquest, it makes comebacks even harder and its called conquest not tdm

Yeah , Conquest. Where a combination of flag points and deaths bleed your tickets. The mode you're talking about is capture the flag lol.
I'm one of those in the camp of not using the MP 28 because of the grip. I'm going to give it a go now.
