such a great sequence.. instant nineties trance/techno vibe there - i feel nostalgia already :). and awesome sounds as well. the character of Nyx fits so well with this. thumbsup.
Man, I've listened to this at least 10 times in the last 24 hours. Especially enjoyed the first demo, the bit that really got me is where, at 1:10, the melody seemed to de-tune for a second creating an 'off colour' yet very exciting surprise; what a gorgeous effect. Tried to play it back several times to see if I could figure out what was going on musically in that few seconds, to no avail.
Btw if you have access to Valhalla Shimmer it is possible to recreate this type of reverb effect with some knob fiddling. The MS-20 would probably sound really cool going through that effect as well.
I'm sure it's possible to get something similar that way, yeah :) always on the lookout for new studio toys tho! I use Valhalla Vintage Verb on pretty much all my production (including stuff as Luminist), should grab Shimmer too I've heard good things.
Your demo and NYX synth, kicks ass really bad. I bought a HADES synth and I have freak out! Now I'm saving money for an EREBUS and NYX! I use digital synths (2 x XV-5080 Rolands) only for the symphonic orchestra sounds as sampler players. Thanks for the great demo!!!
Hey the House track is complete. It's not lofi in nature because sample mangeling on the Circuit is extremly limited. th-cam.com/video/QisdaaFw43g/w-d-xo.html
Would you say this thing has enough beef when it comes to Bass? Love it for its ambient and experimental abilities but is it flexible enough in terms of bass patches etc?
Hmm well it's been a while since I used the NYX. It has a lot of bottom end but not sure if it's the best synth if you are looking to create basses. Like the Model D is an absolut beast when it comes to basses compared to the NYX imo.
@@RemixSample okay sick, thank you for the quick reply man. Great to hear that because I was planning on getting a Model D soonish. Torn between the Make Noise 0-Coast, Dreadbox Nyx or the Model D. Already have a ms20 mini and Im super happy with it just dont know what to try out next
Great demo. But what I cant understand is that thing making those noises by itself or is it connected to a keyboard or something. Can it just connect to a mixer?
You need to connect it to something! You need to connect its sound output to a mixer or PC sound interface. BUT to play the instrument you need one of the following: A midi keyboard or synth that has the capability to function as a midi keyboard (midi-key -> NyX -> Mixer) A sequencer that outputs midi or CV/Gate (Arturia Beatstep/Pro for example) (Seq -> NyX -> Mixer) A PC with a midi out port - you can then use software that outputs midi notes, Ableton Live etc. (PC/Mac -> Midi interface -> NyX -> Mixer) Hope this helps.
I mean that's really up for you to decide. In this video I recorded the raw audio from the NYX and only used the internal reverb as fx. I like stereo more but you can always apply a stereo reverb to it afterwards. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
you remixed mauro picotto. very nice. Which one do you like more? NYX or Mother 32? I want to get my first analog synth but can't decide between those two.
I would start with the Mother 32, I say start because I haven't met anyone that just bought one synth and then stopped. But yes the Mother 32 is a great synth that is easy to work with. The NYX is cool but it's also weird to work with. You can mimic the reverb on the NYX with software like Valhalla Shimmer.
RemixSample it's best controlled from a modular. The envelopes/LFOs are rather short on the NYX. I was able to get much better results using the NYX mod matrix with my Eurorack. Talk about very long drones...
Hey David. I'm curious how you use those external envelopes/LFO's to the NYX. There are no mod inputs on the NYX so what do you do to create those long drones? I can't figure out how to hijack the lfo so to speak.
What I've done is send a CV to the VCA input on the NYX. When you do that you bypass the VCA envelope on the NYX. If enough voltage is sent from whatever you are using, the level of the VCA rises. The NYX will drone. An example patch would be something like channel 1 in Maths in a cycle mode (LFO). Slow it down and you have a rising and subsiding drone. I typically use an attenuator after the Maths output to have a little more control over the amount of LFO or signal.
Lol, I've seen side by side videos, the sonic differences are fairly minor. Both versions sound amazing but the more stable oscillators, far less drift and better tuning are huge advantages of v2 Nyx and v3 Erebus. If given a choice if always pick v2 for this reason.
Can you elaborate on the build quality? Also, how can a dual osc, dual filter paraphonic synth with modular patch points have 0 flexibility out of curiosity? Unless you refer to the general sound of it, in which case "Nyx" is the greek Goddess of the Night, so I guess you buy this for the "of the night" sounds, which imo is what it sounds like.
Jason Logelin I had to have three separate Nyx units get sent to me since the first two were in poor condition. I do think your right that there are quality control issues going on.
This thing gives me the chills.
Nice!! :D
This seems like it would be the perfect addition my DFAM

I have no idea how that happened either :D That's what makes hardware synths a lot of fun!
This thing sounds incredible, especially in the right hands! Very nice demo!
All That Matters by Kolsch is one of the most beautiful House tracks ever created. Nice job.
impressive sounds! love it!

really great demo! all this new modular standalone gear is making me WET!!! GOTTA GET MORE MODULAR!

Yes it's pretty cool!
Loved it!
Great demo! You make it look easy.
Hey thanks. Well it is easy because I have no idea what I'm doing. :D
Damn, that thing breathes. That thing wheezes. That thing spits! Its alive! Take my money Dreadbox!
Nice work - I almost want to go out and buy one but I'm waiting for the Peak. I really enjoyed the Drone part! I like to upcoming video.
Sean Postlewaite forget the peak go buy a nyx and a hades it's cheaper ;)
THOM AlphaXIII or just get both like I did. Peak is awesome for what it does. So is the NYX
That OG through hole nyx v1 though... cant beat it with the extra leds. It's essentially a limited edition version of the synth.
great!
Nice ! Waiting for the Lo-Fi house test with Novation Circuit :-)
I have not forgotten about that but don't hold your breath. I can only work on weekends.

How useful is the reverb in mono?
I mean that's really up for you to decide. In this video I recorded the raw audio from the NYX and only used the internal reverb as fx. I like stereo more but you can always apply a stereo reverb to it afterwards. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Very catchy melody. I had to run off in the middle and I found myself humming it. :)

Thx for the answer. Much appreciated!
It sounds so beautiful, are you triggering it from a Daw?
Thanks. Yes the melody is sent from the piano roll of FL Studio via midi. Some of the other drone type noises are triggered by the NYX itself.
UOU.. this beast sends and receive CC?
Nope. :/ It only receives midi note data. You can't control any of the knobs and sliders with a midi controller unfortunately.
RemixSample it's best controlled from a modular. The envelopes/LFOs are rather short on the NYX. I was able to get much better results using the NYX mod matrix with my Eurorack. Talk about very long drones...

Really? I saw that it had been announced but haven't really looked into it yet. Is it missing features that the V1 have?

If you are thinking of buying, don't. It may sound good here in this one video but it has 0 flexibility and the build quality is poor.
Jason Logelin what dobyou mean by no flexibility ?
Jason Logelin can you explain more about lack of flexibility and poor build quality?
Can you elaborate on the build quality? Also, how can a dual osc, dual filter paraphonic synth with modular patch points have 0 flexibility out of curiosity? Disagree. The build is fanastic--metal and wood. As for flexibility, it's a synth! It does exactly what it's supposed to do: play music!
