      Now then Matt, my siren knowledge is not quite what it should be!
      With that in mind, may I ask a question?
      These sirens are tested at regular intervals, but apart from yourself I don't see any other individuals or engineers/personnel monitoring the actual output of the siren...?
      Is all the testing done remotely via telecoms, or do they rely on information from locals to let them know the siren is working as it should?
      Judging by the state of this grand old specimen, I can't imagine an engineer has been present during testing for many a year?!

    Wow, is all I can say to that! Judging by the clunks from the control box as it starts, I would say it must be on a star/delta starter, which is taking too long to switch over from star to delta, hence the sudden increase to the full speed at 50Hz. The noise is of that siren is simply unmatched from any others I've heard.

    Regarding the comments about bad bearings, on dismantling my GP12, there was major aluminium corrosion between the back of the rotor housing and the motor, resulting in serious friction on the rotors themselves as the housings had bulged inwards at the centres. This could be the actual problem.

      Hi. If this is the Crowthorne Statio siren you are referring to then unfortunately I don't think it works anymore. Someone went to film it about 1 to 2 months ago and it didn't sound. The only one that I know still works is the main hospital one. All the rest that remain are unknown, but I think gone are the times where you can go and film these and expect them to work. In fact its the opposite... probably expect them NOT to work. Same with other locations... Wokingham London Road, Skate Park and Crowthorne Stn - people have already been to film them recently and they didnt work.

    the way a siren works is by forcing air out of a specifically sized hole at a fast speed. the closer the rotor is to the stator, the more air is forces through the ports, and the louder the siren is. seeing how the rotors are literally clipping the stator, it makes sense the ground is shaking.
    also, how ironic, the newer siren is in worse condition than an older siren! like, a lot of them.

  • @ArlenMoulton2
    @ArlenMoulton2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In my opinion, the reason why it changes speed *could* be due to star-delta starting of the motor. Being a much bigger and more powerful siren than the CS8, it could need to start itself in star mode to have enough torque, then switch to delta to get higher speed.
    Either this or rather than having shutters like the CS8, this model switches speed to change tone, either way it's definitely some kind of electrical change rather than mechanical.

  • @stormshadow_6477
    @stormshadow_6477 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why the motor speed increases before run down?

    • @RODALCO2007
      @RODALCO2007 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The motor is going from star to delta. The timing of the contactors is a bit out. Normally full speed happens at about 4 to 6 seconds after start up. The three phase motor windings are basically switched between 230 and 400 Volts on the motor windings, hence increase in speed as the torque is improved.

    The star delta timing is out a bit. Should be about 5 seconds on star. Still an awesome sound. The siren can do with a new paint job. Also, a bit of rubbing of the rotor, most likely corrosion. Great you are documenting these beauties.

    Not required stuff:
    A new paint job
    What I recommend:
    the chopper motor of a 10v 2T or

      Some people say its the star then delta configuration. Star connects motor electromagnets for "power" to get motor running, then "delta" is for continuous running. Thing is... should be 2-5 seconds apart.

  • @jimdieseldawg3435

    Wow! I don't think the locals shooting at it has helped it... the missing junction box cover bodes ill for adequate contact too. A new set of bearings wouldn't go amiss either judging by how quickly the rotor stopped and how my mechanical sympathy itched in time with that hissing. However, all that would spoil this EPIC siren! Excellent capture, old chap.
