    Hi! I love your videos. I have a cockatiel and a green cheek conure. You share so much great info! I have never heard of this before. I was thinking it would be nice for you to make a video on what to do when your bird flies into a window or wall. I had a talk with my vet after my cockatiel, sparky thought that he was strong enough to go through the wall. Luckily he was okay, but my vet let me know about some things you have to watch for to make sure he’s okay.

    What a lovely boy he's turning out to be! 🥰🦜😚 This reminds me of when people say "Gee! Don't burst a blood vessel over it!" I think there was a character in a British comic book (? or cartoon) called Buster Bloodvessel! So it must be a thing huh! It makes sense that this can happen when they are a bit stressed, I guess they must have particularly delicate capillaries in their eyelids. And isn't there a toad that does something like this as a sort of defense when attacked?
    Really interesting. More please Donna! I'm sure it would be really valuable for people to see how much effort it can take to sort out a sick bird sometimes.
    Take care x

    Wow! Thanks for sharing 👍🏻. I never knew that! Although my first owl finch ended up with a weird lump on his head. We took him to the vet and the vet was kinda stumped too. We tried antibiotics and separated him from the others (so they wouldn’t preen his head) and after the antibiotics he still had it. I was dealing with 2 vets and neither really wanted to put him under to biopsy it because he’s so tiny. But after about another week or two the lump went away and he’s been good ever since 🤷🏼‍♀️. I would love to know about Kingsley skin problems ☺️

    Who decided that this increased pressure in the eye tissue is not because of the hold around the neck being too tight? My hypothesis is that bleeding from the eyes has everything to do with compression of the blood vessels in the neck.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the vet thinks Kingsley is a female because females are this color as adults while the males whole head and chest turn red by the age of 3. Juvenile King Parrots look like females. I have asked him to change his file to a male but they don't change it and continue to call him a she🤔

    I have a question, I just rescued a green cheek conure its not a species I'm super familiar with, I have done my research and watched alot of videos and consulted the veterinarian I work for, but where she came from was distressing, she always grabs my fingers or hand if I try tp put her down or stop petting her or try to takw her off my shoulder. How can I help correct this behavior? Anytime I use noises like with my cockatiel she gets terrified and i do not want her to get scared from a ahah the noise i use when she does it.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Conures in general are nippy birds. It's best to read their body language to avoid being bit. Use positive reinforcement for good behavior. Try target training and that way you don't have to have your fingers to close.
      Have another family member make loud noises in another room and give a treat when there is no reaction. Make the noises closer and closer until she is used to it but go slowly. Hope this helps

    Do any of your birds ever bite and break the skin? So bite really heard or is bonding with them and watching their moods really enough to prevent this?

    • @fashionista4000
      @fashionista4000 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kingsley seems so sweet and to me most of your birds do. I’m working with my young cocketiel I’ve had for less then 2 weeks. I’m wondering if I really should ignore nips or do something to avoide them happening?

    • @jessica6967
      @jessica6967 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fashionista4000 biting is communication. what are they trying to say? earnjng your bird's trust at this early stage is the best bet, so if they want space or are feeling unsure of you, respect that and let them interact on their own terms. Training (target training, recall, tricks) is a good option, instead of forced handling, as it's an activity you can both focus on with fun and treats involved, allowing you to bond and build up those initial positive experiences with each other.

    • @jessica6967
      @jessica6967 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      try to avoid nips by learning the warning signs, but should they nip, calmly respond appropriately e.g. if the bird wants space, give them that. this might sound like it's reinforcing biting, but they should not be biting frequently enough for this to happen. Plus, if biting gets completely ignored or even punished, the bird will become more frustrated and potentially bite harder, more frequently and eventually might stop trying (a depressing, I've given up trying to scream my needs, type of stopping though)

    • @jessica6967
      @jessica6967 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      also! please remember they are birds! they can bite sometimes and that should be completely okay, as long as it is not a consistent/excessive problem. they are wonderful, affectionate companions but that doesn't mean they can't have their off days or inappropriately express their needs - they are not acting with malice or unsavory intentions - they are simply trying to adapt to living with their humans; hardly resembling their natural habitat/lifestyle

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Senegal has bitten me hard where she has drawn blood. Senegals are quick and don't show emotions very well, they just attack. My Moustache Parakeet will bite me but I avoid it by reading her body language. Reading their body language is the best way to avoid being bitten.
      Always reward good behavior and reading their body language is the best way to avoid being bitten

      You must go to an avian vet immediately. Catch your bird in a towel and place in small travel cage with no perches. Put layers of paper towels on the bottom of the cage for softness. He is in pain.

      Call an avian vet not a pet store.

    I don't agree that it is a great idea to file a birds beak to the point of the eye bleeding. More scientific approach to diagnose the skin issue and fix that. I think it is a later video where Donna discusses that Kingsly had mites. I am assuming the skin problems during this month were later found to be related to mite. It that is the case then I would expect an avian vet to at least be able to think of that and to test for that or just give the generic mitacide.

      Kingsley is young in this video and still looks female. Males take up to 3 years to develop the red. Here is a more current video of him. You can see the red coming in
