    Actually, not buying Bitcoin for $1 a share would be my biggest mistake but not mastering the fretboard would be a close second. 😂

      I really like this analogy!!! That is how important learning the fretboard is! A lot of us neglected it early on and regret it! Thanks so much for this comment Neil! Keep rockin buddy👌

    Firstly, this is the longest write up I have ever seen accompanying a video on You Tube. This is a great lesson & an eye-opener. I just wish I could turn back time to reclaim those decades I've wasted noodling around on my guitar and not getting anywhere. I needed this lesson 40 years ago! Thank you so much for this. This one needs to be viewed over & over to extract all the information you have included. I thought I'd never get out of the rut of being an intermediate player, but now there's light at the end of the tunnel. Keep 'em coming Rusty.

    Stellar lesson Rusty...........I love all these chord tone targetting tutorials they are so helpful to my playing..........I'm currently learning the triads on all string sets.........just learning major triads I know to make it minor I just flatten the third.......having so much fun with it and starting to sound so melodic..........a big thank you Rusty..............Paul from Ireland 🇮🇪

      I really liked reading this comment Paul! You are working on all the right things! I definitely wish I would’ve worked on this stuff early on. And many players blow right by learning the fretboard and the notes in the chords. You are on the right track, my friend! Thanks for checking in and have a great rest of your week.😎

      Another great lesson . With my memory not good this is a great way to
      learn one note at a time and calling out the note while i hit them.

    30 seconds into the video I knew what he was about to teach will be a game changer for everyone that doesn't know what he's about give you probably one of the most important lessons he can give a beginner because folks you hear people say I've been playing for 20 or 30 years right so have I but if you were playing or practicing wrong man did you ever waste valuable time. Anyway I heard him open with the biggest regrets and I already knew so if you're just starting or think you know pay attention watch this video over and over.

    A left a comment early on that I felt the major scale should be the starting point in learning to play lead - I now recognize there were some pretty significant gaps in my knowledge base and that is what was holding me back, not the fact that I started with the minor pentatonic scale… I have you to thank for opening my eyes - I hate to admit this but I have been playing for 20+ years on a very limited knowledge base, but things are looking up in my guitar world that I cherish so much!

    I look back to my guitar lessons almost 50 years ago. Those teachers all just taught me songs. Then they would say that they can't really teach me any more because they had shown me all their material. They were afraid to teach the really important stuff thinking it would bore me and cause me to quit (ie. Theory, harmonized major scale, Nashville numbers). There are so many crappy guitar teachers. Some were terrific players, but not good communicators. Others were not even good players. I've learned so much more since the arrival of the internet, but it did help to not be a total beginner. I am able to recognize the gold nuggets of information amongst all of the BS. This video my friends is a gold mine. Thanks Rusty!

    I was always overwhelmed with the fact that there are 130+ notes and I figured learning them was impossible. Then one day I decided to just learn where the B&F notes were and holy crap, there’s a pattern to where the notes are all over the fret board. Still learning, but that discovery put me on a different learning road.

    • @rustysguitar1
      @rustysguitar1  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I like that story! I think we all make it harder than it Hass to be. There is only 12 notes on the guitar that repeat 130 times. Yeah for me just starting in the middle of the fretboard where I play the most. Learning that area first and expanding from there. Thanks a lot for the comment and have a great week I know.👌 text

      There are only the notes A through G and a few notes in between. Don't let them intimidate you. That's why when people want me to teach them guitar, I give them a few basic piano lessons first. Saves a ton of time with a little basic theory first.

    Hi Rusty, thank you. I am currently learning the notes and have made it to the 7th fret . I am not sure if I can retain all of that! I have been playing most of my life, mostly rhythm. Your instruction has helped me very much. I am going to guitar center to buy a looper,drum pedal and would like to know what you recommend. I am spending 2 to 3 hours a day practicing, trying to learn how to play lead and I’m tired of playing with backing tracks! Please let me know as soon as possible what you think would be a good pedal for me. Keep up the good work! Thanks again. I am approaching 63 years old and am not sure I can do this but I am going to give it my best effort! Rod Applegate

      Sounds like you’re working on the right things Rod! I have the TC electronics Ditto 2x looper pedal and I love it! But there are different models and also boss make some great looper and drum pedals. I would search them out on TH-cam. You will get a lot of information. Sounds like you’re having fun with that guitar man! I appreciate your comment. Talk to you soon.👍

    What's the best way to use major and minor pentatonic what's the difference between them is it three frets they're the same pattern but three Frets different correct or not

    • @rustysguitar1
      @rustysguitar1  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The simplest way is to use the minor pentatonic over minor chords, and the major pentatonic over major chords. But you can definitely mix the two together in more of a blues that contains seventh or ninth chords. And the positions are three frets apart yes. I have many videos on how to use the pentatonic scales along with many other teachers on TH-cam. Happy jamming. Thanks David 👍

    Why can i play and predict songs without knowing what I play?? I envy you. You can put names on your notes... I can't. What's your trick? Whenever someone plays a bad note, I've got a headache and can't listen... Make a video about feeling music. Thanks

    • @rustysguitar1
      @rustysguitar1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can definitely have fun playing the guitar with out knowing what notes you’re playing the progress is slow. Many players just feel it, but they at least know the basic structure of the fretboard. Thanks. Have fun bro 😎 Catch you later 👍

  • @ColdCanadian911

    Wait wait wait 1:19 you can use major chord tones (triads) and use then with Minor pentatonic? It doesn’t have to be major pentatonic? I did not know this,,,,,😢

    • @rustysguitar1
      @rustysguitar1  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You absolutely can! Blues players have been doing this for decades. Looking at major triads within the minor pentatonic scale is a great way to sound connected and bluesy at the same time. Thanks so much for checking out the video. Have a great Sunday.🙏

      Make sure you are arching your fingers. Don’t lay your fingers in a flat position. Have your finger nails facing the fretboard not up (facing you). Thanks for watching! Happy Sunday 🙏
