Watching it come down was like seeing a loved one slowly dying of cancer. Each week something else was gone. Your video is wonderfully done and terribly bitter sweet.

Sid, Thank you for the comment. Like several of us that were there everyday over the last couple of months said, it was like a 2 month long funeral. A lot of memories relived, stories retold & friendship renewed.
What was interesting were the new friendships that were formed over the last couple of months. I have become pretty good friends with people from several generations that passed through that school. I even had the privilege to shoot a marriage proposal on the front steps just last week. The steps are the only thing that remains of the school as of last week. They were re-united during the demolition and he felt that proposal on the steps was a positive ending to the history of the building.
Also through this, I have started my own photography business. Something I have wanted to to for years, and was thinking I might do it this year. So a few good things have come out of all of this destruction. I am thankful for all the new memories and friendships that have formed or be renewed.

+Kevin Turner Thank you for the kind words. I had not set out to do this from the beginning but it turned into a large 2 month+ project. I made a lot of new friends, and launched a photography company as a side job. I ended up making a book from most of the photos in the slideshow, which is available here. www.blurb.com/b/6363090-john-marshall-high-school

I walked those halls from about 1955 to 1966. No. I wasn't a slow student. My mother worked there. Thanks for putting the pictures online.

Thanks DeeRo.... I have enjoyed shooting and editing the images, I just wish it was not my school that it was all happening too.

Gwen... Thanks for your comment. We still have all the memories. As I walked the halls, it was incredible the things, most of them unimportant, that I could recall as saw a familiar door, or locker. Conversations came back, faces, names that I had not thought of in nearly 30 years. It all has been a very surreal time.

I am so very sad for this loss. Premature waste of natural resources. Whatever is built there in its place will be haunted with the sounds of School Bells and hustling foot steps. Feelings from teenage angst to first loves will always exist there. You can break my bones but you can't break my spirit......

Melanie.... waste was the thing that struck me must as I walk the halls and classrooms, and watched the demolition process. I am thankful for all the work that several of the alumni did in the final weeks, in removing as much was possible for mementos for other alum. We saved a lot of glass blocks, bricks, lockers, doors.... and on and on. I was amazed at some of the stuff that people were able to save from the landfill.

+Gabriel Adegoke if you are talking about this ghost at the 3:14 mark, then yes, that is actually a self portrait. I have a blog entry that explains how I created that image.
      www.dbinfocus.com/blog/2015/6/how-did-you-do-that
It was done all in one exposure using a technique call painting with light.
