Their vocals are enough, no need for musical instruments. And the harmony, ooh the harmony, ....it's just ...beautiful, sweet, melodic..and the list goes on. Oh! And don't forget the emotions in their voices.

Fell down a TH-cam rabbit hole into this video. This is a hymn from my very young childhood that I've sung a hundred times in Catholic School. Until now, I never listened to the words. Yes, it's dark. But what caught my attention the most is, "I danced on the Sabbath." (Translation: God endorses dancing as prayer.) Amazing.
I learned this song at a Catholic SEARCH retreat for teenagers in 1972. Last night at a Symphony concert I attended, the orchestra played this song. It brought back so many wonderful memories of the SEARCH program.
Wow and double wow!! This has got to be my most favourite rendition of the Lord of the Dance, EVER! Those three beautiful voices, what a harmonious combination...just perfect and so wonderfully performed 💗💞👏🏼😍.... Just love, love, it.🤗🎊

I am not a Christian. However this song can almost make me realise others points of view.
Unfortunately versions like this are sickly sweet and you can hear them all trying to sound good.
For a true rendition hear the hard hitting original by Sydney Carter which does not try to be "lovely" or this one by Martin Carthy.

I guess my point is that this is best heard as the simple folk song it is - I really wish I could find a version sung by Sydney which I heard him singing in the 1960s on BBC TV.

We used to sing this at music camp when I was a kid in Canada....our camp fire songs sounded better than this. Off key and messy .
I go to a Catholic school and I'm in choir and they were NOT on key AT ALL

It's actually not Irish. It was written by Sydney Carter, who was English. He borrowed the tune from an American Shaker song called, "Simple Gifts."
