    Which flute is your favorite? The audio is still my old setup so hopefully I will do more of these in future with my new mic but I recommend listening with headphones!

    This was so interesting for me to watch. How the flute world has changed! I had to wait 4 years on a waiting list in the early 70's to be able to purchase a Powell flute. At that time their office/workshop was in a cement one story shop that looked more like a garage!

    I loved this video! One of my former teachers told me (as a Powell player herself) that playing a Powell flute is like driving a stick shift car. It’s not the easiest flute to play, but when you can figure how those instruments work, it’s so rewarding. My twin sister plays on an Altus 1107 and she says that she feels like her sound becomes stuffy when she plays a Powell (that’s what I play). I’ve tried Miyazawa flutes and though the mechanism is really nice, I find myself sounding very stuffy on those flutes.

    You sounded the best on the Muramatsu and the Miyazawa

    The Nagahara had a huge sound but the Powell had a very sweet, pure sound on you. The Miyazawa was a great balance of the two.

    I actually had a question about mechanism. I have been trialing flutes here… I really ❤ the mechanism of the Haynes Q2 my fingers move so fast. My question being can it be too fast?? If some keys feel faster than others is this a bad thing?? Or something one adjusts too? I am not a technician and I never had the pinless mechanism. I have tried 2 Q2 flutes both felt different one was very even feeling the other my fingers slid quickly and effortlessly but a bit uneven.
    How important is the csharp trill? My trial does not have one…

    Would you say that sicilienne is a good song to practice on a flute you're trying out?

      Absolutely! It’s a great choice

    Hai...Iam Sudheer from India. I love Flute and I started practicing Bamboo flute by keeping It by my left side. I am practicing like this from may years.....Now I want to get Concert Flute. If I get Concert Flute(Metal Flute), Can I play It by keeping It my left side or again I have to practice It by keeping Right side...Please care my message and guide me

    • @TheFlutePractice

      Hi there, you will unfortunately need to play with it over to your right side. The mechanics are structured that way. Good luck!

    so Tatiana you are in NY or was this an old clip ?...i prefer the Powell. To my ears it sounds the best. It would have been fun to know the complete model of each of those flutes..cheers !!

    • @TheFlutePractice

      This was from last year and honestly I am not 100% sure which models I was playing on :O So I did not want to include the exact models in case I got them wrong. I the Powell was a hand made sterling silver with a gold lip plate (may be #2422 on the website). The Miyazawa was also definitely hand made model in solid silver...possibly the #75646 on the website. The Muramatsu was the DS model...I know that for sure and the Nagahara was also solid silver and guessing (very much guessing!) #1278. Sorry I was not a bit more vigilant...all those pretty flutes make my brain dysfunctional :O

    Does the type of music your going to play [jazz, rock, etc.] be a major factor? it looks like your more of a classical background.

    • @TheFlutePractice
      @TheFlutePractice  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David B hey! I do have a more classical background although I have played in a pop band and have done a tiny bit of jazz too (I am really hoping to do more of this!!!!) I know the famous Jazz flutist was classically trained at Juilliard before he went into Jazz and he once said to me that Jazz is not a different language but rather a different accent of the same language. So yes there are differences but also many similarities. I hope to share my knowledge as I learn too and if you have any other cool resources please send them my way!

    What are your thoughts on Gemsinhardt?

    • @TheFlutePractice
      @TheFlutePractice  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They make some good instruments, especially beginner and intermediate level flutes. I would recommend a new one though. There are a lot of old instruments floating around that are in a very bad condition!
