  • Doming resin coasters and other projects can save you lots of time! If you do it correctly, you won’t have to do any sanding, and only minimal trimming (if any!). Here’s how I do it...

    Oh clever! Keeping the piece in the mold means no spill over. Thanks for sharing !

    Thanks for the great info, however I would have loved to see them unmolded to see the cured dome. Thanks again.

    Hi I’m in the process of starting to dome vinyl stickers, to give like a 3d letter effect… it works sometimes… ish
    Was just wondering exactly what the heat gun does ? I know a flame can be used to get bubbles out
    And is there any way to get the dome ‘higher’ in the centre

      Resin self levels, so there really isn’t a way to build it up into a hump. You could try letting it sit until it’s really thick before pouring it, but I think you’d still end up with either a flatter dome than you want, or a surface that’s not smooth.

    Is it possible to dome coasters that aren't exactly in a mold? I paint ceramic and stone plated coasters and seal them with resin. - How would I dome those?

      Yep, I do it all the time! It takes a bit more precision, and your table has to be 100% level. Just add the resin to the top, warm it with a heat gun, and then use a toothpick to pull it to the edges. You’ll have to practice pulling it to the edge and not over. If the resin pulls back to the center, add more a little bit at a time until it stays at the edges. Obviously, don’t add too much or it will overflow the edges.

    I have a question, I tried this twice but a thin layer of resin keeps seeping to the bottom of the coasters. I de-molded my coasters and put them back in the molds when I was ready to do this process if that makes a difference. Maybe it broke the tight seal? Does this happen to you and is there any way to prevent it? Thanks

      If you take the coasters out, and then try to put them back in and pour more, resin will seep under. You have to leave them in the mold. If you demold, just leave them out of the mold and dome them the same way, being very careful not to use too much or it’ll go over the edge. You need a perfectly level surface to dome.

    are you using a doming resin for this or a casting resin? Thank you

      I’m using the same resin I used to make the coasters - Naked Fusion Artist Resin. I don’t use anything special to dome.

    Can you dome ceramic after you take them out of the mold?

    • @TiftenStudio
      @TiftenStudio  หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is resin, not ceramic. But yes, it can be domed after demolding. I have a video showing that here: th-cam.com/video/sbqZo91n6Hw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pWUq9ph8RW0IcFG_

    What kind of protective gear do you wear?

    • @TiftenStudio
      @TiftenStudio  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I always wear gloves. I work in an open area with a filter, but when it’s closed due to weather, I usually wear a respirator.

    Does it need to be fully cured before doming?

    • @TiftenStudio
      @TiftenStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends. If you’re doming with clear, then yes. Otherwise, you can just fill your molds to the point where they start to dome on their own (basically fill them until they almost overflow).

      I do not use glue. It is resin. I use Naked Fusion.
