My Prera is one of my three pens for shallow shirt pockets. I have the "italic" nib, which is a narrow stub, and it writes beautifully. A lot of people don't like the converter (Con-40?), but I think they aren't considering why it's built the way it is. I've had minor issues with surface tension and narrow diameter converters, such as in the Lamy Safari. The Con-40 has agitators. The ink always flows completely to the nib end of the pen when pointed down. If the nearly inaudible rattling of the agitators is a problem, I found an easy cure. Play bass in a rock band for a few years. The agitators magically stop rattling. I SAID, AFTER A FEW YEARS IN A ROCK BAND, THE AGITATORS DON'T RATTLE ANY MORE. I think I prefer my Monteverde MVP, which writes wonderfully. Tough call, though. The Prera is great. Apologies for shouting. Hearing loss is a tragedy one doesn't come back from.
So happy to find another pen person in the Maritimes. MIddleton, Nova Scotia here! Thanks for the heads up on the fountain pen store in Charlottetown. I may have to add to our summer plans. I also try to share my hobby with my kiddos. Love seeing their input on your videos!
Hi Stephen, the Prera, the Metropolitan the Explorer, and the Kakuno all use the same nib and feed and are all interchangeable. They are only friction fit into the sections. The only difference is that they have different laser engravings on them. Thanks for the video!!!
Thanks for the review! I tend to prefer opaque color pens;my Pilot Prera is light grey. I like that you don't have to screw to uncap or screw to post(deal-breaker for me). Love the Prera! I got mine on Amazon for $24;so free shipping and it arrived in 3 days. Pilot prices where you live seem high. The best flowing ink I have used in the Prera is Iroshizuku take-sumi. It seems to improve flow in a lot of pens.
Wish I had seen this video before buying my prera from Amazon this week. It was a good price. $31usd. I share your same thoughts. Little small. Little pricey. My first fountain pen purchase was the metropolitan. I loved it so much. Such a great intro pen. And made me really appreciate the pilot nibs. They are stellar.
I have the Prera with a medium italic nib. Best stub-like nib I ever used. I think it's a superior pen to the Metro. Much more comfortable grip section amd no nasty step down. I really like this pen.
I got this pen, the clear red with a cursive medium nib and it is beautiful...like nothing else I have. I love this pen, but I don't think I would be so impressed with it if I had gotten a regular nib, because yea, for the price, there are nicer looking pens for sure.
I'd like one, but they're so small. A metro is too small. Being small was never an issue when I used Energels, ( gel pens) but now, I can't write with small pens, nor pens that are too large. A TWSBI Eco is perfect size for me. Maybe I'll buy one since they take con 70's. All Pilots, and Sailors and probably Platinum's are too damned small, unless it's a Pilot Custom 8 twenty 3 (horrible apple keyboard won't type twos), or the outrageously priced King of Pen or Pens, whatever they call it.

I love mine and I like the convertor too. I too have hearing loss!

Thanks! Great to meet another pen fan too. The Bookmark also has a store in Halifax, but I'm not sure how many pens they carry there.

Yes Pilot tends to be expensive in Canada.

I got mine on sale and I'm enjoying it.
