- Bowers and Wilkins B&W DM603 S3 2.5-way floorstanding speakers setup sound & bass excursion test withouy speaker griil [no grill]. Powered with Sony TA-F490 stereo integrated amplifier and for soud source I use Creative E-MU 0404 USB audio interface also know as DAC or external sound card. For music playpack I use Foobar2000 freeware audio player for the Windows platform, that support FLAC payback. TV is LG 55UH6507 55" inch smart tv.
Some nowadays alternative speakers from B&W brand: 800 Series included 800 D3, 802 D3, 803 D3, 804 D3 or 805 D3. 700 Series included 702 S2, 703, 704, 705, 706 and 707 S2 and lowest 600 Series: 603, 606, 607 and subwoofers ASW610XP, ASW610, DB1D, DB2D, DB3D, DB4S, PV1D or ASW608.
Some nowadays alternative amplifiers from Sony brand: Sony TA-A1ES or Sony TA-ZH1ES headphone amplfier (pre amp). Thats all. Sad, that 80-90s so big hifi amplifier brand stop making amplfiers and Sony start selling plastic portable bluetooth boombox's. Of course I understand, that just business.

I have a B&W 603 s3 black and Marantz PM7000. i previously owned 10 different types of speakers and 50 different types of amplifiers and receivers. This speakers are amazing
What do you think film performance?

I got a pair of the B&W DM603 S3 and NAD C352 amp in 2007(or was it 2008)... haven’t felt the need to upgrade...after all beyond this there isn’t much my ears can appreciate anyways...(I had gone to the shop/studio thinking I will buy Jamo....at Indian Rupees 70,000+ a pair, these were 50% more expensive but I could hear the difference).
So if you enjoy music and aren’t obsessed about technical specs etc.... just buy this and enjoy for the rest of your life.
‘It’s a beautiful life’(Ace of Base) or ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’(Queens) or Pink Floyd The Wall or Dark Side of the Moon... or Dire Straits, Doors or ‘Losing my Religion’(REM) etc... they all sound awesome...ultimately what’s matters is how does the music THAT you listen to sounds on it...
I owned these for almost 20yrs and used them for home theater but recently got into Records and they sound great but they work best in a 2.1 setup as they need help with the lows IMHO but I love B&W and kind of locked into the brand for better or worse so I replaced them with a pair of 1st gen CM9's I got a good deal on. They share the Kevlar driver and very fragile silver dome tweeters that are notorious for getting dented if they come within 10ft of a child. They have the added bass I want for direct L/R stereo listening.
I am not an audiophile so my opinions are VERY subjective so if you are buying them try to audition them if seller allows. They served me well for almost 20yrs.

Where did you place the mic? You need to place it in the listening position at ear level to see a fairly good response. If you keep the mic in a corner you get bass frequencies as low as 20-30Hz not legitimate driver produced but room mode induced.
We always place mic in the listening position. This room need acoustic treatment.

My first B&W were the 601 S2. I’ve been expanding my system a little, and I just couldn’t bring myself to buy any B&W that doesn’t have the yellow Kevlar cones and bullet dust caps. Gotta have them all match somewhat; I like that look.

I can only buy once a good speaker set. Cause i am not rich. My budget is around 1200.00 Euro's. If i could i would buy 803 instantly. I also saw a pair cm7 and 703. But the 703 are 1200.00 Euro's. Is the 703 so much better then the 603 and the 604 s3 ? For a beginner it is extremely difficult to make a choice. And i can't drive around and do a 2000 km in total to listen to all of them.

Yes, this is my first serious buy for a highend speakerset. 2 weeks ago i bought a Denon PMA 2000R. After educating myself i decided to go for just simple left and right. Instead of a surround system. I like old music. Like old Jazz. Reggea like Eek-a-Mouse, Gregory Isaacs, John Holt and so on. So i would also prefer a pounchy bass. But also appreciate it if the speakers could give good lows. And i know that from where i am coming that almost everything can be seen as an upgrade.
But maybe it is better to instantly go for a pair of 703 S1 speakers ? If they are much better then the 604 ? Choices, choices and not know what to do really. My room is ok. It is not a bounchy room. Somewhere around 35 M2. But very high ceiling at 3.30 m. Rebuild an old farm at the countryside. So no neighbors.
The 604 give best price/perfomance, invest the money saved DAC and room acoustic treatment

Hi, i baught exactly the same speakers 603 S3 in 2003 , for about 800 euros (if my memory serves me right ) Excellent sound !! However , a few months ago without knowing why i realised both tweeters are dead. I dissasemled them on my own and checked them both . Do you have any idea where to find replacements and if the speakers can accept other's brand tweeters because i was told that a pair of original ones, costs around 200 euros which is too much money !! Is there any other cheaper solution ? It is said tweetrs of B& W is the life line . Is it true ?
Not sure if they are the right one. Figure out the right size and search for tweeter diaphragm or voice coil. You only need to know basic soldering. You also need ferro fluid. Many diy vids on yt.

I replaced the tweeters & mid speakers on mine about 6 yrs ago no problem mids were £45 & tweeters about £25 each.
The woman at B&W was sound & they arrived promptly👍

I'm a bit of a newbie on B&W, so could you please tell me if I can connect 603 towers directly on a television, or if I need/should have a central device to connect to (such as the sony amplifier you used)? For passive speakers you need amplifier, to connect tv. You can choose stereo amplifier, its mostly made for music listening, of you can bought audio video receiver, that mostly made for home cinema. Receiver give you at least 6 speaker outputs. Later you can buy surrond, central and subwoofer speakers and get home cinema setup.

Sony amps are not really good for either use
If you only want for music then Cambridge is a great option without being too costly

@@Techscrews Because that Sony amplifier is not good enough for those speakers. I made the same mistake thinking that Sony has good amplifiers. My 603s3 speakers sounded good with NAD, very well with Onkyo but with Denon preamp1100/poweramp 2200 it is at a different level level. After all these years my speakers havestarted to ...sing!
Why do you overdrive the speakers and make air pumps of them? You act like someone who proves the quality of his new car by running it into a wall again and again.
They not overdriven, with good amplifier they can much more. Just use your ears amd listen music, you can always hear, when starts sound clipping, then just turn down a bit volume.
