    I have a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage, and I currently have 358,000 miles one. Same engine, transmission, and alternator. Only thing I've had to replace is brakes, and tires. Best car I've ever owned.

    5:59 I currenty own 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport manual drive and I have 305k miles. I think it'll get up to 350K if not more. I bought brand new with 5 miles and just recently replaced my clutch and catalytic converter. It still drives great. I'm keeping it till the engine decides it cant go anymore. Very reliable car. I have a 2008 Outlander with 132K miles. The engine is a 2.4 cyl and runs like a clock. The A/C is still cold and overall the vehicle has been very reliable. My 08 Camry with 60K 2.5 4 cyl had to have the engine rebuilt due to faulty pistons and connecting rods. The engine still pulsates and does not compare to the Outlander which is smooth and quiet.

    • @johnbarto4611
      @johnbarto4611 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      yes 2.4 engines can go a LONG time......if oil and other fluids regularly changed. also you or your mechanic must regularly inspect engine and cooling system, so small issues dont turn into Major repairs,but this applies to Any vehicle if you want it to last.

      That 2.4 (4B12) is the best engine they build in my opinion...although the 2.0 (4B11) is also equally as good but just a bit underpowered. They are both based on the Mitsubishi MIVEC system (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control) and have been used in their vehicles since 2007. They are currently used only in the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport/RVR/ASX.
      I have owned 6 Mitsubishi Vehicles since 2006 with no mechanical issues and my 2017 Lancer was traded in at 225,000 km on my current 2024 RVR SE AWC 2.4...these cars are very reliable with proper maintenance....I would never buy any other car brand.

After that almost zero problems (and I am talking some 9 cars in total). But... I do not doubt this video. We tend to buy another car at around 150.000 miles. The 2009-2012 Mitsubishi Galant is a decent very affordable commuter car with solid handling & ride and it’s reasonably reliable.. with regular oil changes it’ll go to 200k with original engine & transmission.. I bought one used with 147k / for $2500 and drove it to 180k with only basic maintenance.. only sold it because of body damage from hitting a deer 🦌 . I owned an 89 Galant from 1995 to 2002. Bought at 181,000km and sold at 321,000km or 200,000 miles. It was a fun driver's car, similar to a Mazda 6 or first gen Acura TSX in feel, with telepathic steering that told me everything, and a solid rear axle that embarrassed sport sedans with multilink suspensions. Near the end, I was starting to replace parts for a second time. The AC compressor went bad and there weren't any remanufactured units in the country, so I gambled on a used one (and lost, it was bad too). The car was blowing smoke because the valve seals were going bad, and I had replaced them only a few years earlier. I'd never buy a low volume car again after experiencing the headache of parts availability and lack of aftermarket support. Oddly enough, rust was never an issue.

    I have a 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage 1.5 Auto Trans. Bought it at 71,000 in Sept 2004 for $2,500. It now has 290,000 and still runs good, with original engine and trans. Changed the Trans fluid and spin on trans filter every 30,000 to 40,000 with factory filter and fluid. Job takes me about 40 minutes. Did oil changes every 1500 to 2000 miles because you can get to the drain plug and oil filter without crawling underneath. I use mostly factory original parts unless I can't find them. California Car with mostly freeway miles. Burns 1/4 quart of oil every 2000 miles. Car is fun and easy to work on and I've replaced the usual things like brake pads rotors, and timing and drive belts, tires, etc. Car broke down only one time since 2004, when the ignition module in the distributor quit at 180,000, but I had a spare in the trunk so it was an easy fix. Funny thing is back in 2012 I thought the Mirage would quit on me soon, so went out I bought a brand new Nissan Versa with a 1.8 and 4 speed automatic - Not the CVT, thanks God. So, long story short, the Mirage kept on going and going and going, Versa is still brand new with only 3700 miles on it. And, yes, Mitsubishi, I'm willing to a sales commercial for you - for free!

    Anyone with high mile Mitsubishi daily driver is an anomaly. Before old Mitsu owners get angry with me, just note how often you see 20+ year old Mitsu's on the road versus Accords & Corollas from same era. The challenge is getting replacement parts for older Mitsubishi models. They’re not as readily available as Honda / Toyota. All the 20+ year old Mitsubishi’s in Midwest have rust. I had 1998 Diamanté wagon and struggled to find parts. I had to order thru a dealership or find used on Ebay. I liked the car, but keeping it alive in Midwest was a challenge.

      I'd have to agree that finding parts sucks. I have a 2003 Lancer Sportback wagon. Mitsubishi's OEM parts are either expensive, or no longer manufactured. Quarter panel window? Dealer quoted $1500 import from Japan. Fan controller that frequently fails? $300. Ebay and salvage yards are the only hope. But, knock on wood, 290,000km and it never left me stranded.

      5 thousand miles later and She runs great! The Outlander is getting 29 to 30 MPG. I live in the country so, my miles are almost always on the two lane or 4 lane highway. Mine is a 2016 that I bought in 2015 so, I have 3 more years left on a warranty. The paint job is still flawless, the interior is perfect, sound system and sync are amazing, performance is more than adequate, there is no oxidation on the headlamps and I have not had a single repair done to this vehicle. So, fingers crossed. I change the CVT fluid and filter every 25 thousand miles, the synthetic oil every 4,000 miles, drive responsibly. I'm not sure what you expect out of a car this old with this amount of miles? I know people with Hondas and Toyotas who haven't had this kind of reliability. That said, I know you research cars that lat 500,000 miles. The Mitsubishi might not compare but I am 62 years old and I think this vehicle might just out last me? I paid $6,000 less for this car than a comparably equipped Toyota. I love your videos and you ARE the professional. I respect that. Once I hit 80,000 miles I will give you an update. In the mean time, don't feel too sorry for someone who bought one of these things new. I'm more than happy with mine. Keep up the good work, Rev.

    I purchased my 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse with the 2.4 5 speed manual with 160k miles for $2750.
    I know Mitsubishi vehicles aren't known to last as long as a Toyota or Honda, but if taken care of, you can still get 300k + miles out of them.
    If I had more money to spend on a vehicle, I would have purchased a low mileage Toyota or Honda for sure, but I really like the Eclipse.

    my 04 endeavor is driving through a lot of issues at 300k. my o2 sensors so old n crusted it's fused to my Cat converter, the egr? valve is stuck open, running rich, but it runs! and im basically just running into the issue of there's no parts for it out there! we bought it new in 04 for around 30k after everything, and it's taken a lot of maintenance, nothing crazy expensive, and it only took premium gas, but not having a car payment and super low insurance cost for 18 years is worth it to me lol getting ready to replace it this summer for something more fuel efficient. but i genuinely loved the car, i probably put bandaids on it and fixed it up longer than i should have but it was fun, zippy little V6, i've NEVER questioned if it'd turn on and get me where i needed to go, and honestly if the endeavor model was rereleased today i'd go get one.

Mine only did 131,000 miles before it’s engine fatally died, then the Chevy Tahoe I replaced it with did 150,000 miles before the transmission died in an expensive fashion? You have no idea what you’re talking about. Whenever I see someone driving a domestic suv I cringe! Hard!

    I love my 2011 eclipse, it has its issues. All are just due to lack of care and maintenance from the previous owner. My biggest issue is parts. They're difficult to find some times. Another issue is the interior quality is bad. Not completely horrible, but just over all cheap and plastic feeling. It seems like they throw useless features in it to make it seem better than it is as well. Fun car to drive, relatively reliable with 170,000 miles on the clock and counting! But when it breaks its difficult to fix due to lack of parts. Also expect oil leaks.

Engine, trans, etc still strong but the left rear wheel bearing has gone bad. Simple fix, right? Not with this one. The splines have fused to the bearing hub and it's prolly gonna' cost more to fix than it's worth. It's been such a good vehicle up to this point it's bumming me out...

    I have a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage with 144,000 and it's not showing any signs of wear. The body and paint are far superior to Honda which are notorious for paint and rust issues
    I've owned three Mitsubishi cars, and Eclipse, Stealth (both turbo AWD) and the Mirage. The Mirage being the most reliable, it's also the least complicated with a timing chain, not a belt. All three 5 speed transmissions.
    Like any car, the secret is maintenance. Parts can be a problem if you aren't able to spin a wrench or rebuild sundry items.

    I owned a 2003 Outlander that I bought used. I traded it at 225K miles for a 2015 Outlander Sport. The reason for that trade was rust (which is very common for the upstate NY area -- for all cars). If it weren't for that, I would probably still be driving the 2003 as I had no major issues at all. Granted, it didn't have as many bells and whistles, but then for me, reliability is more important. Of course, experience is very subjective. For my experience, I have found Mitsubishi very reliable. Given the unfortunate resale value, they make awesome used car purchases--especially for a college student or someone who wants an economical commuter.
    One question you could maybe answer in your videos (maybe you already have as I only found your channel today) is at what point do you take the mileage number? Is it when the car is junked? Or when it's traded?

    • @carsthatlast441

      Thank you for watching and your comments. I analyze data of cars that are for sale across the US, based in their mileage. In general, this allows me to see various trends and patterns, which can be helpful in determining longevity. Its difficult to know the final end date of a car though.

    I owned mitsubish for 15 years. My 2003 Mitsubishi Galant with 4G64 4-cylinder engine lasted 160k miles. It's very very reliable engine. But the auto transmission is shit. Manual eclipse is a great buy!. Timing belt broke on my Galant at 160k. I had the belt changed at 120k, but I guess the auto shop was using cheap parts.
    Mitsubishi is easy to work on, very DIYer friendly. I did most repairs and maintenance myself. You can find free OEM shop repair and service manual!
    Warning: only use OEM timing belt on Mitsubishi cars. I've paid my price.

  • @kylemas2005
    @kylemas2005 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This study should take into account the majority of car owners don't keep their cars past 150k miles to begin with, so you probably had a lot of Mitsus that still ran but were traded in and then never sold on the lot or at auction so they were simply parted out. Mitsubishi reliability is well established around the world. It's purely an American phenomenon thinking that they aren't reliable.
