VIDEO: A grizzly bear ambles past cyclists in Glacier National Park

- A group of cyclists from Whitefish, Montana were riding on the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park when they had a close encounter with a large grizzly bear. The group can be heard yelling "no bear" and some people can be seen holding out bear spray in preparation for a possible encounter. Luckily, the bear didn't seem too interested in the group. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks recommends people recreate with bear spray - especially in the spring and summer months - in the event they encounter wildlife. (Video submitted by on of the cyclists))

They eat large animals with thick, furry hide. You'd be a very easy snack, regardless of deodorant.
Fun fact, there are zero documented bear attacks in Yellowstone park on groups of people three or more. It's always on solo or pairs.
Travel in groups, make noise and properly stow food/scent items while sleeping.
All jokes aside, they did the right thing: stayed together instead of running each in separate direction, told the bear to go away, looked intimidating (yes, even in those outfits). So good job on staying collected.
they did the wrong thing by being close to it. That bear will become accustomed to humans getting it killed or relocated.
I wish cyclist would demonstrate this type of courtesy for cars trying to pass.

He’s a young male, only his second year away from mama, and his concern is avoiding the big boars looking for love. The Winter of ‘21-‘22 was mild, with scant snowfall, except hard cold at the wrong time which killed buds on berry bushes and fruit trees. Grizzlies stayed low until mid-July and were scavenging the transfer stations hard. Black bears, avoid grizzlies, were in towns and villages all summer long. Eight black bears were roaming Ronan MT (pop. 5,000) in town during the day for weeks and the Ravalli MT transfer station was closed for 6 weeks because 6 grizzlies were picnicking there, all at the same time.
It’s a cute video with wealthy out-of-state Whitefish people on their bikes but life in bear country requires a certain level of commitment to preserving those magnificent animals.
Just like the rich people moving near Joshua tree National park when they know it gets up to 120 degrees and they proceed to blast the air conditioning or spend the day at the nearby country clubs with fake lakes 😂

@@vvelvettearssI don’t think they were in the wrong by talking either, just because you want to reduce the chances of an attack since they can be unpredictable. But I don’t think he was going to charge. He stayed on the far side of the road the whole time and kept his pace up, if he started slowing down and turning his body towards the cyclist then he might consider charging

I agree their constant yelling was annoying, and possibly could have been dangerous. However, if you are hiking in the parks that have grizzlies, the rangers encourage you to hike in groups rather than alone. But they also tell you to be non threatening once the bear sees you, not nonstop yell.

This bear wasn't running away, it was coming at them.
I'm talking about grizzlies. They're different than black bears. With a Grizz, stand your ground (unless they are literally attacking you, then play dead) and look big, but DO NOT YELL. I will listen to the rangers and bear experts. My nephew was a ranger and now a National Park Superintendent who worked at one point worked in Glacier where there are many Grizzlies. I disagree, I think it looked as though it was going past, not attacking. But they did the most important thing, not run.
How to train a wild grizzly in 30 seconds or less, genius level.
