Congratulations on hanging out your shingle! Great video, I remember when I went from climbing for someone else to working for myself and having a similar experience. Funny how a person does things almost without thinking working with a crew, then you're by yourself completely responsible for everything and all of a sudden you feel like you're brand new. May not have been as smooth as you wanted, but you didn't cut it off the stump and eventually got it on the ground where you wanted with people and property safe....doesn't get any more professional than that. Thanks for sharing reality.

I actually just ordered an electric Makita saw. I had seen y'all talking positively about the little Husqvarna one so I decided to try out the Makita model since I'll be able to use their batteries for other tasks. I did verify before ordering that companies like Oregon support that model with bars and chains. I had always been reticent to try an electric chainsaw before.

Randy: Get my saw will you.
Jake: Where is it, can´t see it?
Randy: Oh wait, that´s strange, it is right here, hanging outside my pocket.
    Silence
Randy: now that i think of , why shouldn´t i keep it ? After all, it came to me, it is mine...

That area looks like a classic example of an overgrown forests. There are too many trees competing for water, and when you have less than average rainfall, some of the trees die.
There are many places here in the Sierras where there are hundreds or even thousands of acres that look like that, and some are even worse, to the point you can't even walk through the forest.

That little Toyota was on the road long before most common bigger trucks of today's roads were, and it'll still be on the road after they're gone. I had a '91 with the 22 R-E engine, and the guy I sold it to is still driving it everywhere he goes. He treats it like shit, just like I did, and it just keeps running anyway. My current '09 that I bought new 14 years ago, is used and abused most days, and it doesn't seem to want to die either.

Nice work! I think the key when assessing these kinds of hazard trees for removal is determining what you are and aren't comfortable with. I mean you may not feel one hundred percent comfortable with the situation, but do you have confidence in your plan and are you able to control any anxiety you may have so that you can get the job done safely? Nothing wrong with walking away either. Keep up the great content.

Curious, why not put the winch on a tree away from the projected path of the falling tree, snatch block on the tree in the projected fall area? We use this method often. Much safer.
