    Oh I am happy to see more people and critics making predictions that Hong Chau is getting her first Oscar nomination, she deserves it!

    Great episode. What always tickles me about this particular GD series is the unforced and spontaneous quality of the back-and-forth. Delightful. Moreover, though frequently diverging from Chris in film preferences -- but am way down with the Mescal and Henry hopedictions -- his unapologetic enthusiasm is contagious and endearing; And if more often aligned with Joyce in movie choices -- Lydia Tar rules until she doesn't -- her clear-eyed objectivity is admirable and appealing. Am also hoping for some surprises. Will be eagerly awaiting the response to Nomination Morning. Again, youse twose are the berries. More, please, thank you.

    Yes if Michelle rode support she'd be better but Best Supporting Actress 2022 is Angela Bassett.

    Being a jury pick doesn't mean that you're *not* in the top 5. You're just not in the top 3. And the jury would pick anyone below #3 to fill out the the rest of the field so Viola Davis could land at #5 with the popular vote.

    Rajamouli DOES NOT Need or want a Marvel movie. He needs the budget to make the Indian epics Ramayana (into a trilogy) and Mahabharata (a trilogy/pentology). These are his Dream projects. All his films are inspired by both these epics. He just needs budget to make this. He ain't thirsty for a Hollywood Marvel or DC film. He wants to make Indian films.

      This is true. We'd only be so lucky if he wanted to make an American blockbuster -- his style and skill would reinvigorate the genre.

    Given the nominations for All Quiet, you’d expect it to be a lock for International Feature but it still feels like a soft front runner since it really hasn’t won much.

    • @Sharpe1502
      @Sharpe1502 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it’s a lock for international feature. Argentina, 1985 is its only competition for International Feature.

    • @MikeyMike00
      @MikeyMike00 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sharpe1502 The thing is that it keeps losing this award at other ceremonies. Like if it’s so strong, it shouldn’t be losing to RRR which is not really expected to get into Best Picture.

    I’m seeing Babylon get dismissed by recent commentary, yet it is the only film out of potential nominees with a metascore and IMDb scores which are increasing - while other films’ ratings are dropping. Also, lots of tech noms are expected (with Hurwitz’ music likely to win). Like Don’t Look Up and other films that were divided among critics, I think it’ll find a BP slot.

    • @chrisjrosen
      @chrisjrosen ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I hope so! It’s absolutely, in my opinion, one of the only three great movies of last year.

    • @lifeissweet9826
      @lifeissweet9826 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't seen Babylon but want to. These other movies like banshees being hyped is so typical of Hollywood. I know that it's all about money being paid to voters. In no world can banshees be considered a good movie. It's just a way to justify Colin Farrell being nominated so they don't have to give it to Austin who is the best of this group this year.

    • @Clouden3
      @Clouden3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree. I'd easily have Babylon over Avatar, Black Panther Wakanda Forever and The Whale.

    I’ve been to enough BAFTA events to know it’s members are too dry and humourless to appreciate RRR. They always want to go for the “artful picks” rather than gregarious, high energy movies. RRR being anti-British was also definitely a factor.

    • @ktom5262
      @ktom5262 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gregarious and high energy doesn't mean quality. "Ambulance" and "Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre" are also gregarious and high energy...

      IMO he can do what he wants. Who cares. I don't love all of his films but he was so jipped Director nod for Moulin Rouge way back when. Nah, all of that masterpiece (whether one believes it or not) came together without a Director. We all hold our own thoughts. Troll away.

    I agree with Joyce. The Academy doesn’t want to make good on nominating Black Panther for Best Picture four years ago by nominating the sequel this year for best picture. Remember they tried to avoid nominating Black Panther by contemplating the creation of a new category called Beat Popular Film. When the public saw through that bullshit, they reneged and moved forward with the Best Picture nomination and tabled the Best Popular Film category. Right now I see just 3 nods for Black Panther 2: Supporting Actress, Costume Design, and maybe Original Song.
    But if Chris is right and Black Panther 2 is indeed nominated for Best Picture, then it will be just because of the box office success. That goes for Avatar 2 and Top Gun Maverick as well. Their Best Picture nods will likely attract viewership, as the telecast’s ratings have been subterranean of late but not for a second does anyone believe either of these films will win Best Picture. The Banshees of Inishern and The Fablemans is more their cup of tea.

    if we really want to give GOOD cinema a boost TAR should take BP, regardless of Blanchett's TREMENDOUSLY important in terms of acting history performance. Also FRASER FRASER FRASER and then FRASER for BA. DEADWYLER should be nominated too... She could easily have turned it into a lamenting caricature, instead she gives a performance with so much dignity and inner power

    I think that while Cate is good in Tar, she already has two Oscars and I think that factor may still give Michelle a slight edge as she is quite loved by many. Remember Glenn Close was sweeping the bigger awards and then Olivia Colman took the Oscar.

    I think
    RRR is making to the best picture nomination
    It was for critics choice too and many international best flim it has made through here unfortunately not for best international flim but the momentum it gained chances of getting is best picture is there
    Chance of Rajamouli getting to best Director is there I think might get in
    RRR was selected in top 10 movies at many places so
    Also naatu naatu is not only getting nominated but winning the award for best song
    I wish for Cinematography and editing RRR was selected but tough choice
    For me I know not possible but I wish both actors of RRR got that nomination surely best performances of the yr but I know won't get it , but then I think the whale has highest chances of winning and and one of the best performances of the yr as well , also I wish Tom cruise gets in for top gun , he was too good 👍
    Tar and top gun r getting in cinematography

    Cate's speech was ridiculous, for a multitude of reasons. Don't be so dismissive if a lot of people are having the same reaction to it. You may disagree, but claiming it's "fake Twitter drama" is intellectually dishonest.

      Okay, I just saw the speech. She didn't say anything people who have won awards before haven't said. It's arbitrary, many people had excellent performances. She praised her fellow nominees and even through shoutouts to other actresses who weren't nominated. She may have been dismissive of the concept of awards, but that doesn't mean she doesn't deserve to win them.

    It's so interesting how this particular "critic"/"expert" is discounting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. What Ryan Coogler was tasked to do and was able to achieve was amazing. And really doesn't get the credit he deserves as a bonafide hit-maker.

  • @lifeissweet9826

    So many times, movies that were supposed to be a lock, end up not winning. Saving private Ryan should have won but basically got shut out. I think elvis will shock everyone this time. It was such a hit and Austin so honored. Then the other studios start hyping really bad movies like banshees. OMG. That is the worst movie. That everything movie was NOT WATCHABLE. what is wrong witb Hollywood. The Whale won't win and neither will Brendan.
