  • Update: Long Live Southbank have come a long way since this video was first published. Having secured the long term future of the Undercroft and we have gained planning permission to restore legendary parts of the space last skated in 2004. To make this restoration into a reality, you can donate at www.llsbdonate.com.
The Sidewalk Magazine editor and pillar of the British skateboard scene, Ben Powell, lends his voice to the Long Live Southbank campaign as the Southbank Centre continues to ignore the voice of tens of thousands of people who object to the destruction of the unique and iconic Undercroft and it's diverseness and inclusive community.

Well, the already blocked off the back entrance ramp, and put steel bobbles on all the ledges at the Shell Centre, and made the steps near London Bridge un-skate-able. So Southbank totally died at a skating area for me, because all the major jam spots are gone.

there's gonna be hundreds of skaters chaining themselves to the pillars and railings if it comes down to it being demolished.

to be honest I'm over it, time to move on. And you can't compare St. Andrews to southbank, St. Andrews is purpose built for golf, the council has just let people skate at the undercroft over the years, it's not purpose built, we've been allowed to skate there, that's it. They could step in with security any time and say "piss off". and there's nothing we could do about it because we have no right to the place. no amount of crying will change anything.
